As the master presented it, I, the student, shall surpass - Reseda - Apr 01 2018
Reseda was hidden, invisible, blending into the stone and rocks around her. She moved slowly so as not to break the disguise, but she did not feel anything in particular to her slow movements. She had all the time in the world. She wasn't going anywhere for anything. She just didn't want to be seen. She was tired of interaction and needed the loneliness and solitude she had coveted so much in the room of bones. She wanted to snack on marrow again and crunch the bones in her jaws. But there were no bones here. Only living creatures and rocks. And, as she had discovered, the living did not give up their bones so easily.
Once she was sure that she was alone, she released the spell and breathed in as energy rushed back into her body. She found that using spells of foreign elements was more taxing then her own. But it was fine, as long as they were of use to her. And the camouflage spell certainly was.
She found a place to sit down to rest her weary legs. She had come here all the way from Polaris and, now that she was in a smaller place, she felt a little more comfortable. She curled up, placing her head on her claws and dozed off peacefully, thinking little of what had happened that day.
"Living with myself."
Nothing but lies.

But when Reseda woke up, she was confused. And her wounds stung. Maybe the cat wasn't very old and didn't have big claws like her, but it had still hurt and the wounds still bled. She reached up to touch them and felt dried blood on her face. She wondered if she should bother doing anything about them. She had never been hurt before so she didn't know what to do. She decided to let it go unless it became a problem, which is was not right now.
She stood and stretched out her sturdy legs. She had completely grown into her form and was now a massive creature. She lumbered forwards, not really sure what to do. Should she go on or stay here? There wasn't anything to do here but she knew that she shouldn't push herself too hard. She was not accustomed to traveling and it could have terrible effects on her health to overdue it so early. But she had no bones to pass the time, no creature to practice her words. Nothing at all.
Well, maybe she didn't have nothing. She still had her brain, her mind, her thoughts, her magic. She could think and ponder upon her actions. Why the cat had refused to fear. Had she done something wrong? She was sure that she had done what was right: compliment, try and make it feel good. But it had failed miserably. She needed to figure it out. She needed to observe.
And she needed to practice magic. She had failed so much in their little fight. She wanted to be as powerful as the deep one. For it commanded fear and respect and there was still a shiver that went through her whenever she thought of the magic it had performed when they had first met. The closets she would ever get to emotion.
As she thought of this, she felt the magic present in her gem, as if it was bursting to try. She had, after all, thought long and hard about it had done that spell and she had learned much about magic herself. She remembered the energy that had resonated within her when the spell had been cast. Thinking about this, pulling it forth, and letting it manifest within her gem allowed an energy she had never experienced before surge. Before long, there was a huge accumulation of magic within her gems. And with a single push, it was released.
In front of her, a good distance away, the air began to distort and pull at the matter around it. Rocks tumbled towards it before they were sucked into an tiny space that grew darker and darker as light itself was crushed under its weight. It was small and took all of her energy to maintain, but Reseda glared at it with hunger and pride. She had done it. The spell she had worked so hard for was here at last.
After a few seconds of reveling at her new creation, she felt her own body begin to slide and she immediately let go and the distortion disintegrated in an instant.

Reseda stood for a moment, processing her great discovery. She had finally done the spell that had started her on the path cycles ago. Was there even more to do? No, of course there was. The thing had been tiny, much smaller then the deep one's and she hadn't been able to hold on for very long. Besides, she had been pathetic in the fight with the young one. She needed to work on her other spells as well.
She stepped away from the area, which was devoid of scattered debris and rocks and found a new area with larger stones and pebbles scattered about. She focused on her gems and they flashed as there was a sudden burst of energy and many of the pebbles went flying towards the wall while the rest broke apart completely. Many of the stones were thrown from their place with the bigger ones cracking under the force. She looked around expressionless and wondered what it would have been like if it had turned out like this in their fight. Would the young one's body have broken like the stones? Would she have been flung into the water as easily as a pebble? If only it had happened that way.

She decided, next, since her advanced spell had been a success, that she would move onto more basic spells. Perhaps if she would be able to use her original spell on large things, like the boulders around the room.
She stepped up towards a particularly large one and focused again on her gems. She was starting to breath heavily as her magic started to wear her out. As she forced her magic through her body again, it was weaker then before and barely managed to shiver the boulder. She stepped away and decided that a period of rest was in order.

After a few moments of simply sitting there, staring at the rock, Reseda felt her energy start to find its way back into her system. However, her stomach was beginning to rumble a bit. She would have to hunt after this attempt at her magic, especially if it was a good one.
The gem became hot from the overuse, or, at least, so much use that it wasn't used to, and she expelled force, this time much more powerfully. The face of the boulder was crushed, a crater appearing in the side of the stone. It was satisfactory. Reseda stood and turned, intending on hunting now. Perhaps she could put her spells to use now.

Reseda remembered the skills of hunting she had observed. But other creatures stalked their prey. She did not have to stalk. She only had to hide. So she cast her magic, which shimmered on her skin for a moment before her entire form melted into the atmosphere around her. Now she would be able to sneak up on prey much easier then if she had just been her normal color.
But what to hunt? She had seen things hunt mice and rats and little critters. But those were tiny. She'd have to hunt over and over again if she wanted to fill herself. No, she would hunt bigger prey. She didn't want to have to continuously hunt to fill herself.

Reseda slunk through the tunnel, her tongue continuously flicking as she searched for prey. At one point, the faintest trace of scent caught her tongue and she immediately locked on and began to follow it. By now, she was quite well used to searching by scent. The room of bones was musty and smelly so any scents were hidden beneath a heavy air. This was much easier.
She eventually came upon a cave deer, a little taller then her, travelling innocently down the tunnel. Its pace was leisurely and not alert. That would make it even easier then she thought. She slowly slunk up so that she was walking at the same pace and turned her head, deciding what she was going to do next.

She positioned herself near the deer and prepared her magic. A moment later, she sent out a shockwave that knocked into the deer's legs. It wasn't as strong as she liked and only tripped the animal, sending it flying to the ground with a loud bray.
It didn't kill it, but it gave her enough time to run up closer and prepare for another hit before it got up and ran away.

As she neared the deer, the animal suddenly shot up and started to bound away. Trying desperately to catch it before it ran, Reseda let loose another shockwave, but it was weak and pitiful and did nothing to stop the deer. Her tongue flicking with annoyance, she jumped forward and gave chase.

Reseda stormed after the deer, but she was a lot slower then it. Her prey bounded ahead, whining and crying and she was left straggling behind, despite sprinting as fast as she could. She tried to throw another spell the deer's way, but it wasn't good enough and the magic didn't come to her. She was getting frustrated. She was hungry and she wanted food. The deer looked so tasty.
