Lesson One - Tala - Jun 11 2015 It was Arkrael's suggestion to come to this place. It felt...soft? Somehow, Tala could just feel the life forces around her. She could feel the energy that the plants were using to flourish, and the kinetics of the stream moving across the ground. She felt good here. Of course that icy tunnel where she was from would always have a soft spot in her heart (somehow!), but there were more memories to be made elsewhere. She was getting hungry, which would be a good thing for this first lesson. Arkrael wanted to teach her how to hunt. Being a wolf, Tala already had the general idea down but getting inside advice from someone that has been around at least a little longer would be a good prospect. "Okay...why hunt here?" She thought about it quickly and amended, "Because some eat plants and we eat those that eat plants?" She thought aloud. Tala sure didn't have the desire to munch down on a bunch of plants, so the good things to eat must eat the gross things around them. Surely that was it. Plus there was a nice stream for a water source. "I am ready to learn. What is the first objective?" Her speech was developing rapidly. Her magic was next to be honed. The energy around her helped to increase her appetite and anxiousness to start a new chapter. The chapter with eating in it, the best one! RE: Lesson One - Arkrael - Jun 11 2015
"Speech" Thoughts
There was a different bounce to Arkrael's step. It seemed like her very body language had changed drastically the moment her paws met with the mosses of Eridanus. Her eyes shone bright with joy and her tail seemed to move on it's own accord, wagging almost a little too fast. Home. It had been awhile since she had decided it was due time to come back. Her eyes flitted around, taking in everything she could see. Off towards the middle of the room she could see the ever presence of the great Monarch. Tall and proud as it loomed over all of Eridanus. Not far from the mushroom was the Trench. The area she had emerged in. She and Tamelyn really. For a moment she wondered if that stupid golem was still in the area. Or if it had just been there to take up all her gem shards before going wherever it wanted. The thought of it stealing her gem shards made Arkrael's hackes bristle up a little bit and her tail to slow in it's wag. Tala's words pierced through Arkrael's thoughts, quickly drawing her out of her own mind to focus once more on Tala. Her hackles settled down and her tail picked up speed. "Yes! This is my most favorite place to find food. There are a lot of bunnies and mice here. And Fish in the water! But I haven't mastered hunting those slippery annoyances just yet," She laughed a bit at her last statement. It was true. Those fish seemed to be more of a hassle than the bunnies and mice, but they sure were tasty when Arkrael did manage to catch one. "Our first object," Arkrael began as she turned her multi-colored eyes back to the surrounding moss and fern, "Is to first see if we can smell any prey around. There's a lot of other smells here with all the foliage, so we have to pick out which ones belong to prey." Of course. That was not her first step when she finally returned home. Oh no, She always wanted to know if there were others lingering around Eridanus and where their exact location was. As if on instincts her gem began to virbrate and hum, a small light starting to glimmer in the depths of the opal. Just as quickly as Arkrael had attempted to use her magic, it was gone just as fast. It made Arkrael frown for a brief moment before she shook it off. Arkrael guessed that she was just a bit tired and hungry for her magic to work. Shaking it off she turned a warm smile to Tala. "What all do you smell?" She would start it out slow for now. She wanted to see if Tala could tell the difference between plants or if she could catch the scent of something they could eat lingering around. RE: Lesson One - Tala - Jun 11 2015 There was something bothering Arkrael, Tala could see after she bristeled up. Whatever it was, however, didn't last long and so Tala assumed it was nothing to worry about just yet. Apparently this was her new friend's favorite place to be. Perhaps it was where she emerged, kind of like the feeling Tala had for that cold miserable rock pile. In which case, if Arkrael was attached to this place, it wouldn't be as fruitful as other locations due to inherent bias. Alas! This was no time to criticize. She was taken in by the kindness of Arkrael's heart and so Tala refocused her attention. Rabbits, mice, and fish were on the menu. Fish were apparently tricky though, so it was probably best to try for something else. Arkrael pointed out that there were a lot of smells around, and she was right. So much was going on that Tala was almost overwhelmed. The ice cave definitely didn't have this much stimulation all at once. Regardless, there was no point in sitting around in awe. If food was found here, she was sure that she would spend much more time here and would have other chances to sit around and look at stuff. Tala lifted her head up, and then back down to the ground by her feet, "Yes, I definitely smell all sorts of things." What she didn't know how to explain was what she felt. There was some sort of...vibration perhaps? That just emanated inside of herself. She didn't know what to make of that information just yet. POST ROLL EDIT She walked over to a group of some sort of plant (of course she didn't have much knowledge with types yet, seeing as how she was released from her chrysalis in an ice cave) and could smell something quite tasty nearby! She froze before getting too close. It surely didn't want to find her, she figured. What was more, however, was that vibration from before seemed to direct her, like it was pulling her towards the scent. Or a life force perhaps? Tala walked slowly back to Arkrael. "I smell something in there. Somewhat large, but it could not possibly be larger than you or I...? I do not know much more than that right now. Except that I am hungry and every ounce of me wants to get it." Her eyes grew wide with anticipation. RE: Lesson One - Arkrael - Jun 11 2015
"Speech" Thoughts
Arkrael watched as Tala moved about. It brought a happy grin across her muzzle watching as Tala seemingly looked about for something. It would probably not be so hard for any wolf to make out the difference between prey and foliage. They were wolves after all. Hunting was in their very instincts. Her nostrils flared, taking in all the scents that surrounded them. Indeed there was something near by. Something she would recognize as a bunny. Oh those things were yummy. More yummy than a mouse! Of course their fur was annoying to get around, but plucking out the fur just enough to get to the juicy meat beneath was all worth it. As Tala came trotting back, expressing that there was indeed something close by. She was good to guess that the bunny was definitely not as big as them. Arkrael imagined that for a moment. It almost made her drool. A big plump rabbit all for the taking? Why yes, that would be delicious. Shaking it off Arkrael grinned excitedly at Tala. "That's good!" Arkrael laughed when Tala stated she was definitely hungry. Probably more hungry than Arkrael was. After all she had yet to put anything in her belly just yet. Getting up to her paws, Arkreal took her turn to go sniffing for the Rabbit. Her paws guided her quickly, following the trail the rabbit was heading as if to get away in a sneaky retreat! She raced for it. The thrill of catching the tasty morsel causing her heart to race with excitement. The rabbit gave a strange noise as it quickly bolted away from a spot it had stopped to try and hide in. To no avail could the little creature get away from the bigger predator with only such a short distance between the two. Jowls snapped and fangs gripped tight around the plump body of. The death cry of the prey only lasted for a split second before the rabbit lay motionless within Arkreal's grasp Arkrael, pleased that she had caught it without too much trouble, pivoted from where she stood and trotted right back over to Tala as to which she presented the bunny to her. "Sshhh-e. Itshhh eeashhhy" She yipped around the bunny in her mouth. She blinked before lowering her head and dropping the prey to their feet and sat back on her haunches, her tail thumping ilghtly against the ground. "You can have this one if you want. And then we can try for you to catch one," She offered with that same warm, friendly smile. RE: Lesson One - Tala - Jun 11 2015 Tala absorbed the praise and even wagged her tail ever so slightly. She observed her fellow wolf race after and catch the rabbit discovered by Tala. After the rabbit was offered to her, she slowly sniffed the new prize and savored its scent. Scent now identified: Rabbit. She began tearing at its hide and swallowing chunks of meat piece by piece. This new sensation of meat going down her throat was actually quite comforting, and she savored each salty bite. Each time she took a new chunk, she lifted her head up to take in more of her surroundings until the carcass showed more bone than meat. Tala laid down on the soft grass and tore some of the bones apart, enjoying it as a game. There was a new task at hand now, though. Arkrael invited Tala to try her paw at catching an animal. After the bone she had in her mouth snapped, she stood up again, licked her chops and resumed training. "I will try." Now that she had successfully identified rabbit, she searched through the air for that similar scent. Finding another one a short distance away, she started trotting slowly toward the scent...and vibration-like thing. This started to distract her and made her lose focus for a little while. The rabbit scent brought her back into line. Shortly after, Tala thought she pin pointed the location. The rabbit must have felt unsafe because it quickly darted out from its spot. POST ROLL EDIT Tala followed suit, her heart pounding from exhilaration. The rabbit was quick and had practice bounding away, she was sure. Just a short time after emerging and she was using all her strength to try out her legs. Something else from within her started to stir though, and her eyes focused intensely. Things seemed to get sharper and clearer. All of a sudden, the rabbit was thrown violently with some other rocks, twigs, and pieces of plant against a tree, cracking the rabbit's skull. Tala skidded to a stop, panting rapidly. "That...that thing. It haaa...happend again." She took up the rabbit in her mouth and brought it back to Arkrael. "I don't know what happened. It seems as though things just get flung around when I am near, but not all the time..." She remembered that Arkrael's magic worked almost opposite to that, bringing things near instead of thrusting things away. And Arkrael...she could feel things like Tala could too, right? RE: Lesson One - Arkrael - Jun 12 2015
"Speech" Thoughts
Arkrael grinned as Tala had her first meal. She was glad to have provided it for her, even though she knew Tala would have probably managed to do just fine on her own in attempting to catch it. Hunting was only natural to them after all. Arkrael's first meal had been a few rodents that she had managed to find deep in the tunnels that led out of Eridanus. Shifting where she was sitting she gave an encouraging nod to Tala as she brought herself back up to her paws and went to go try her paw at her own hunting. As Tala drew closer and closer to the rabbit she must have been tracking, Arkrael watched the rabbit bolt from it's hiding spot. As Arkrael figured, Tala went after it just as quickly. Then something happened. Something that was vaguely familiar and Arkrael's ears jumped up into full attention. Things moved again. Sending the rabbit flying through the air and slamming into a tree along with some loose debris. So, it was Tala's magick that had caused the rocks and stuff to move back in the tunnel of ice. For awhile there, Arkrael had thought maybe something had caused her to do something she was unaware of, but now relief washed over her. "That's probably your magic," Arkrael grinned broadly as Tala found her way back over and expressed her thoughts over what had just occurred. It was curious. Arkrael could not remember a time she had seen a magic do that. It had to be something she just hadn't come across yet. "It probably happens by itself because you just woke up," Arkrael hummed thoughtfully, "It was like that with me too.". She could remember when her own magic did it's own thing without Arkrael having to concentrate. Some times it worked itself out to work properly, others it left her extremely tired or with massive headaches. Either way, the Magic they all possessed was an interesting thing. "But congrats on catching your first rabbit! Pretty awesome huh," Her grin spread a bit more as her tail began to wag again, thumping against the moss covered floor. RE: Lesson One - Tala - Jun 12 2015 Tala dropped the rabbit. She had supposed one of them was going to eat it. A rabbit was a decent meal for a pup such as herself. Not enough to keep her satiated for long, but it was something. If Arkrael wanted any she would forfeit hers, seeing as how this would make two rabbits for the two wolves. If not, there would be no waste here! Tala would finish it up. Magic, huh? That's what caused all of the destruction. "Your magic is different though...right?" Tala wondered aloud. How many types could there be? At least two, apparently. Both her experiences so far had been things moving around. The possibilities were endless with just that, for sure. Little did she know how expansive the world really was. Tala looked back to the rabbi as Arkrael mentioned it again. "Oh yeah, thanks! It was an exhilarating experience after coming out of that chrysalis and all." She sighed from the thought of how much energy she had spent. "So, I guess I've practiced hunting and even used my magic, even if it wasn't on purpose. And it was a success." She smiled wearily, "So, now what do you suggest? Do you have anything else to teach me?" RE: Lesson One - Arkrael - Jun 13 2015
"Speech" Thoughts
Arkrael shifted how she was sitting as she pondered over Tala's question. "Yes. My magic is different. My connection is with the earth. And Gems," Anything to do with those were something Arkrael could hear and feel. Even now as she stood upon the moss covered ground she could feel the soft vibrations the stones made. They were alive with energy and with their energy, came Arkrael's gifts. "I'm not quite sure what exactly your powers are though. I've never seen anyone do what you do. I've seen a couple different powers however, so I'm sure there is someone who shares your element." It was a curious thought. Arkrael never really set out to find all she could when it concerned other gembounds. She simply happened upon them during her travels of exploring the caves. Perhaps she should reconsider that and go find others and learn about magic she hadn't yet seen. Upon Tala's next words Arkrael turned a smile to the pup and gave a quick wag of her tail. Now came the fun part! "You did awesome on your hunting. So now lets try your tracking!" She grinned excitedly as she rose to her paws. Tracking was something Arkrael enjoyed to do. Finding a scent and then following it all through it's travels until she came upon whatever it was she was tracking. "You wait here...count to...fifteen? I'll run and try to find a place to hide, and then you try to follow my scent trail and try to find me!" She waited to see if Tala understood, and when she did Arkrael gave a curt nod. With an excited grin Arkrael sprinted away from Tala. She would go as far as she could in fifteen seconds and hopefully find a good hiding spot in that time. As she ran she began to make Zig-Zag patters, racing through the moss and ferns. She even did a big circle aroudn a fern bush before she continued on. RE: Lesson One - Tala - Jun 15 2015 Arkrael told Tala about her connection to the earth, which made her question her powers once again. It couldn't possibly be the same as Arkrael's despite also sending the "earth" and even another animal to another place so...what was it? Eh, answers would come in time hopefully. Now, however, it seemed to be play time! Tala grinned at the compliments her companion threw her way. She was a natural hunter. Tala nodded her head in acknowledgement of Arkrael's challenge and watched her speed off into the distance. POST ATTEMPT EDIT She slowly started to count to fifteen as instructed (and even closed her eyes as to give Arkrael a fair shot at hiding, hah!). The smells around her were so great and distracting that she started to worry about finding her friend. Maybe Arkrael was testing her in some way that Tala was unaware, being a newly emerged gembound. The thoughts started to make her anxious and forget where she had left off counting, but she continued at a number she thought would give Arkrael a fair chance at escape. "...Fifteen!" she announced. Tala thrust her nose to the ground and picked out her companion's scent from the rest of the noise. She kept her eyes closed in order to make it more of a challenge for herself. Tala got thrown for a loop a few times, as Arkrael had clearly tried to make it difficult and throw her off the trail. She picked up speed and opened her eyes as the scent seemed to get stronger and stronger until she found herself looking directly at the paws of another. She picked her head up, "Ah, I found you! Turns out my nose can find prey as well as predator." She smiled. RE: Lesson One - Arkrael - Jun 17 2015
"Speech" Thoughts
Arkrael hunkered down quietly, practically sitting on her tail just so the damned thing would not start wagging like it wanted to do. This was fun. She hadn't played this kind of game before, so it left an excited sensation rolling down her spine. Hide and seek. Yeah, that's what it was called. Or for wolves. Hide and be hunted. The thought made Arkrael laugh a little, but she quickly quietened down as her ears perked. Tala would be searching for her any moment now and it would do no good for her to give her position away by being careless. Audits twitched as she listened to the noises that made up Eridanus. All were familiar to her. The skittering of prey, the subtle movements of other animals who were not gembounds moving within the foliage. Then the sound of paw steps that belonged to a bigger animal caught her attention. Arkrael pricked her ears forward as she listened and before she knew it a nose had shoved into the fern bush she had been hiding in and a soft laugh escaped her. "Tala! You found me! Good job," Arkreal gave a broad grin as she wiggled out of the fern bush and stood up, her tail wagging behind her. "Yes indeed it can!" Arkrael laughed at Tala's words as she plopped her rump down to sit. "You're a very quick learner! Now, would you like to practice some magic?" The offer was given, but Tala did not have to agree. Surely all this running about and hunting was making the new gembound a little tired. If not then Arkrael would be happy to help Tala get a feel for her magic. |
