hunt you down, eat you alive - Kitaka - May 27 2018 Lithe limbs carried the skeletal frame down the tunnel swiftly, each stride made with a purpose. The adolescent hyena kept her nose to the ground, intent on staying on top of the cave rat's trail. It was the first one she had found in hours, and she wasn't going to pass it up. Kitaka wasn't sure if it seemed harder to find prey because she was still weak from the battle with the raven, or because there was legitimately less prey to be found. She liked to believe it was the latter, since she had had a lot of trouble even finding a trace of anything alive besides greater Gembounds. The moment that the pup passed from bare dirt underpaw to soft green moss, she slowed and lifted her head. Her charcoal ears pricked, and listened to the sounds ahead. She recognized the area, but she had never gone any farther than this. The cave rat's trail lead deeper into the vegetation though, which ultimately made up her mind for her. She had sworn to catch something, she wouldn't fail just because she was farther than she ever had been from her family. The moss silenced Kitaka's steps as she carefully picked her way deeper down the tunnel. She followed the lesser Gembound's scent trail as it grew stronger and stronger, until she finally heard the rustle of movement in the grass ahead. A couple of trees loomed a few tail-lengths in front of her, which was probably where the rat had gone, she thought. Kit slunk down into a crouch and crept around the leftmost tree. The sight on the other side had a gasp threatening to claw its way out of her maw. The hyena kept it locked in between her teeth, barely, and instead tensed up in response to seeing the other greater Gembound. She knew it was another like her, because their gem stretched up from their skull like a yellow wrack of antlers. It was hauntingly familiar to the raven's dark gem. @Elspet RE: hunt you down, eat you alive - Elspet - May 28 2018 Elspet was, unsurpisingly, exploring again. It was sort of a self-imposed mission to check out every tunnel leading out of Eridanus, looking for the absolute safest one. This one, so far, was her least favorite. The floor was cold and slick with ice, which she could hardly grip onto even with dexterous hands and feet. Every step carried her through another sliding motion. She couldn't imagine trying to have hooves and walking through this miserable tunnel. This was a definite no, and it was definitely about to be an extreme no in about four or five seconds, because little Elspet was blissfully unaware of the hyena sneaking up on her. @Kitaka RE: hunt you down, eat you alive - Kitaka - May 28 2018 The lean pup watched with wide eyes as the other Gembound slipped and slid their way forward one precarious step at a time. They were so distracted by their current predicament, that they didn't seem to notice her at all. Kit was grateful for that, and decided to use it to her advantage as she planned out what exactly she was going to do. The cave rat wasn't in sight, but its scent seemed strongest here, the hyena noted after a quick sniff. She assumed the other Gembound scared it into hiding with all the racket they were making. So, in order for her prey to come out and her to be able to catch it, she needed this other Gembound gone. Having been raised by the Bloodberries, Kitaka was accustomed to the idea of demanding or just taking what she wanted. She was not used to doing it by herself though. She knew she would have to start sometime, and that Huckleberry had already had their first battle alone. They had been with Mother, at least. She was truly alone now, with no one within even a shout's distance to come to her aid. Kit thought back to the recent training she had done with Blackberry, Huckleberry and Elderberry. She was not incompetent, she could take another small Gembound. If she proved that now, and then went back to her family with her own prize from the fight, then she could prove she had learned from their training. Even more importantly, she could prove she was better than Jayberry. The hyena's plan came together fast, half-thought out and run mostly on hope and ambition. She reached for her magic, willing it to bring forth a gust of air to knock over the other Gembound. She watched it continue to slip and slide, and hoped that her little nudge would send it on to its face. They would be easier to scare, and attack, once they were down. @Elspet Round: 1?
