An Unfair Fight - Jayberry - Jul 23 2018
Something was making noise.
The wolf, having been prowling through Polaris, was frustrated to find that there were very few Gembounds out in Polaris. Normally it was practically swarming, and it pissed her off.
But then she heard footsteps. So she lowered her nose to the ground, and began to follow it, moving in a low stalk.

What was that?
The Quoll had been digging in the dirt for bugs. The soil here seemed to be full of them, and she didn't hesitate to fill her belly.
For the most part, other Gembounds tended to leave her alone. Once they realized she wasn't a Lesser Gembound, something to eat, they let her be.
So she didn't pay much of a mind, until a paw crunched a twig. Only then did the Quoll straighten up, turning towards the sound, and twitching her ears as she attempted to locate the source of the noise.

The thing she had found seemed to notice her. It seemed to be a rodent, and for a moment she dismissed it as little more than a Lesser Gembound. At least, that is, until it turned to face her, and intelligence glimmered in greedy black eyes. Oh, this would be easy, little more than a snack to wet her tongue.
Dropping down to a stalk, she approached the Quoll. She was only a body length away when she pounced, landing on the Quoll and pinning it to the floor with a roaring snarl. It wasn't the best grip, but it would do.

A massive black... thing appeared from seemingly nowhere, and the Quoll went stiff, before moving to try and run. She was only moments too late, and with a huff of pain she found herself pinned to the ground.
"How DARE you!" she hissed, squirming against the beast's paws. It's sharp fangs were glinting in her face, and she began to squirm. Thankfully, it didn't have the best seal on her, and she managed to slip free, attempting to dart away with a furious shriek.

Oh no you don't!
The little rodent thing fulled itself free from her grip, and attempted to scurry away. But she was bigger then it, and it only get a body length away before she was on it.
Its blood filled her mouth as she gripped it by its hindquarters, the sharp bones of its hips pressing into her mouth. She hadn't bit it hard enough to kill it, but that didn't deter her. She needed to find its Gem, to tear it out and bring it to Mother. It wasn't visible on its outside, she had checked, so it had to be somewhere on the inside, didn't it?

A bloodcurdling shriek tore from the little rodents' throat as she was bitten, sharp teeth tearing into the flesh of her hips. Thankfully, the beast hadn't bit deep enough to seriously injure her, but it hurt!
With an enraged shriek, panicked beyond words, the Quoll swung and twisted, attempting to set her teeth into the wolf. But the way she was being held prevented her from reaching it, so there was little she could do beyond shriek and thrash.

Okay, this little rat was beginning to get really on her nerves. It was thrashing against her teeth - which really she didn't mind much, it just spilled more blood into her mouth. But the screeching, oh it was so irritating, grating on her ears.
So she clenched her jaw, sharp fangs cutting through the Quolls flesh, meat, muscles and bones, until they were about to close on its spine. Only thing did she drop it, having felt her sensitive Gem-fang scrape something that wasn't supposed to be there.

When the wolf bit through her, Arba couldn't even scream. It hurt, pain flashing through her, until it didn't.
She was still conscious, but she felt nothing. The impact of her flesh against the ground was numbed, only barely communicating anything to her. Her nerves fired, and she twitched on the ground, violently enough that she rolled along the ground.

To her surprise, the rodent continued to move. It flailed and twisted in an uncoordinated way, splattering blood as it rolling along the ground. She stepped forward, and set her paw onto its torso, before aiming a bite at its torso. Unfortunately (for her, at least) she pulled out nothing but muscle.

She couldn't see anything.
She couldn't hear anything.
All she could do was thrash, not aware of her tiny claws slashing across something cold and wet.
