Bite Sized Snack - Huny - Jul 25 2018
Eridanus was her home.
But Polaris had the most delicious flowers! They were her guilty pleasure - when she got a craving, she would go fluttering away from her nest, and would find a nice cluster of flowers to drink from. She would stay for several days, filling her stomach over and over, until finally she could stomach no more, and head back to her nest to sleep it off.
Today was one of those days. She had made her way to Polaris, and found a beautiful bush covered in flowers. It was quite easy for her to hover in front of one, sucking up the nectar greedily.

One had already died by her fangs.
She could still taste the Quoll, its flesh and hide stuck between her fangs. The wolf had stashed away its gem, intending on gifting it to Mother. But the Quoll wasn't enough. It was her first kill, yes, but it wasn't good enough. Mother had killed so many, and she thought she could impress her with a tiny little rodent? That would be stupid!
So she hunted. Her keen eyes missed nothing as she walked, ears flicking and nose twitching. Something was nearby. A Greater, not a Lesser.
It didn't take her long to find it. A bird, with wings that glimmered quite prettily, hovered in front of a flower. Oh, this would be so easy!
Not breaking her stride, she lunged - and missed. The wolf stumbled, but caught herself, whirling to face the bird.

She was distracted, sipping at the delicious nectar.
So when there was a sudden blur of black, she almost had a heart attack. The little bird whirled to face it, shocked to find herself face to face with a massive wolf. Then again, most creatures were massive to her, but that was neither here nor there. Its ugly fangs were bared, carrion-breath making her wish to gag. "Hey! What's your problem!" she shouted and, not getting the seriousness of the situation, she fluttered forward and poked the wolf's nose with her beak.

Oh this bird was annoying!
Its voice was high and grating, and she bristled, the skin on the bridge of her nose wrinkling as she snarled. It dared to jump out of the way?!
And then pain. There was a sharp, agonizing pain in her sensitive nose, and she stepped back, bringing her forepaw up to rub at it.
Oh, it would pay for that.
With a snarl, she lunged forward. But pain blinded her, and she went staggering past it.

This wolf didn't seem up to talking, and Huny began to feel alarmed.
The little bird fluttered back, trying to find an escape. But she was backed against the bushes, and if she tried to fly up or back, she would get entangled in the branches. And if she flew forward, she'd be flying right into the wolf.
So, hesitantly, she fluttered forward, poking her beak into the wolf's nose - no muzzle, she'd missed.

Oh, she was beginning to get pissed.
This little bird - little ball of feathers, was trying to fight her! Was it really that stupid? All it had was that poke-y mouth, while she had fangs and claws!
Its beak pressed into her muzzle, but not nearly hard enough to hurt. She took advantage of its' closeness, and whirled, fangs cutting through the tiny bird like butter, until she felt its heart vibrating against the roof of her mouth.
And then it wasn't.
She allowed the front-half of the bird to fall to the ground, gulping down the other half that was trapped beneath her teeth.
Leaning down, she tore the gem from its throat, uncaring of the feathers and flesh that stuck to it. And then she trotted away, as though the waste of the carcass affected her none.
She wasn't hungry, anyway.
