Exploring a Little Further - Pollux - Sep 25 2018

The small hybrid had swallowed her fear of venturing out the Fern Trench. It had taken some time to do so, but now that she was a little bigger she figured it was time to expand her horizons. Pollux still hadn't traveled too far from the trench, but she was still far enough for it to be out of sight. It turns out that this whole place seemed to be covered in greenery! It works out well for her, her skin was able to mimic the look and texture of moss with relative ease. The pup blended in almost seamlessly when she stayed still. But right now she looked like a walking lump of moss with wings.

So far her adventure had been pretty fun! She saw a pretty flower, ate a few slugs, found some fruit on the ground, and just had a good time overall! It wasn't until she hopped up onto a fallen tree where things got a little tricky. Jumping up wasn't a problem, she was able to jump high enough with the help of her undersized wings. It wasn't until she started trotting along the length of the tree that she happened to go over a hollowed part.

The tree suddenly broke away from under her and she sunk into the rotting wood. Her front legs, having to constantly be held straight out, sunk right into the soft wood. Her back legs and tail were stuck poking out of the hole and her neck was craned awkwardly to the side in the hole. Her long prehensile tail lashed around, looking for something to grab on to with no avail. Pollux let out a breathy whine. She was utterly stuck and she had no way to call for help. Instead, she continued to kick around with her back legs, making quite a ruckus that way.

Chacha walked aroun slowly, she had never been here before. She sniffed around and continued to explore however when she heard a loud ruckus she stopped. She listened for a moment then began to follow the noise only to find a trapped creature in a rotten tree. She gave a few sniffs before quickly stamping on the rotten wood until it caved in, giving the child enough room to get out, even if they were dirty.

“Are you ok? My name is Chacha, who are you?”

She tilted her head softly and watched the child carefully.

Pollux continued thrashing about, her long tail smacking into twigs and foliage. The pup paused for a moment, exhaustion getting the better of her. A mighty sigh heaved from her lungs and she closed her eyes. But, while her eyes were closed her ears filled with the sound of something sniffing about and then the sound of crunching out.

All of the sudden, the little hybrid could move. She back peddled so fast from her hole that she tumbled backwards off of the log. A she hit the ground, her skin turned from the look and texture of moss, to the dirt that was under her back. The dirt color and texture her skin had adopted made it hard to discern whether or not she was dirty to the outsider, but Pollux could feel the little bits of rotten wood in her wings and on her skin.

When she finally righted herself, she came to see a very pokey looking thing. Pollux started at it for a second. It was short than she was, but when it spoke it seemed older than her. So gembounds can be small but full grown? She thought curiously. The pup sat on her rump, her bird like legs making her sit straight as an arrow.

Chacha, she thought. Thats a fun name! Pollux continued to stare for a moment with a goofy smile on her face before frowning. How am I supposed to tell her my name? As she had come to meet others, they tended to just give her their own name since she couldn't tell them what her real name was. This didn't bother her too much.

To relay the message that she could not speak, the hybrid scooted a little closer and opened her mouth wide. This would allow Chacha to see that she had developed with no tongue. As she continued to hold her mouth open, drool slowly dripped out and on to the ground. As it hit the ground, it glowed faintly as all of her bodily fluids do.

Chacha tilted her head as she watched him. He finally got himself out which she was happy for however the creature stayed silent however she fully understood when the creature opened her mouth. Chacha blinked a few times before slowly nodding.

"You have no tongue. Then, for now I don't I call you....Poll?"

She smiled and had an idea. This child, he could be a fun audience member. And so she stood back.

"Hey, Poll. Do you want to see something fun? Well, watch this."

She focused, trying to activate her magic, but for a second time, it failed. Oh well. Not a problem she supposed. Once again, she could make her own music. She opened her eyes and began to rattle her quills softly to make sweet music. Her eyes closed and she began to hum. Then a moment later, with her sooth soft voice Chacha sung. She opened her eyes, swaying softly, stepping side to side, back and forth all the while she rattled those quills and made her music. In her heart, Chacha a performer. She loved to entertain and when she had an audience, she couldn't resist showing off.

Pollux closed her mouth as Chacha acknowledged and understood what the little pup was trying to show. She also gave a few quick nods when Chacha said she was going to call her Poll. The hyrbid was quite pleased, the pokey creature had named her pretty close to what she was already called! Once again, she gave a nod. She wanted to see something fun! Who didn't?

The pokey gembound suddenly began to dance around to the sound they were making with their mouth and pokies. Pollux smiled widely, watching the show that was being put on. In fact, the pup really enjoyed the rhythm. Her little bird like talons tapped on the ground to the beat. I want to make music too!

She suddenly rose to her feet and hobbled over to a small pile of rocks. Using her tail, she picked one up and then sat by the hollow tree trunk. Pollux looked at the rock then at the tree trunk. Maybe if I... The pup bonked the rock against the tree trunk and it made a deep, resonating sound. She started to do it again and again. At first, the beat Pollux had started didn't match what Chacha was doing, but after a few hits it began to follow along. The hybrid swayed as she continued to knock the rock on the tree, a smile still on her face. This was fun!

Chacha of course noticed Poll trying to play along, she enjoyed it, when she finished she gave a small laugh and lowered her quills. She walked up to the tongueless creature and sat down beside him.

“If you keep on practicing, you’ll be just as good as me one day. Perhaps even better.”

It was a shame Poll couldn’t talk. It really was.

The little pup continued to hold a silly, drooly smile on her face while she played along. The sound was so nice! It was actually a sound that she could make on her own. In a way, it felt like something special. Maybe she could use music to convey things later in life. But, for now it was just a fun game to play with Chacha the pokey thing.

She really liked this musical creature. Pollux bobbed her head up and down excitedly. It would be great if she could get better at making those nice noises, maybe it would help her make more friends.
