I believe I can fly - Hera - Oct 17 2018

The winds of Monoceros were strong.

The Golden Eagle spread her wings wide, hopping forward towards the edge of the cliff. She was trying to get a feel for the winds before she leaped head first, quite literally, into them.

Once she reached the edge of the cliff, she spread her wings as wide as they would go, and leaped.

Speech. Thought.

The Golden Eagle tumbled through the air, the strong winds whipping at her wings. She twisted, attempting to catch herself, but finding it harder and harder to do so. The winds seemed so much stronger now that she was at their mercy, with nothing beneath her to ground her.

Until, finally, her wings bent just so and for a moment, she wasn't falling, but flying. The air tore at her, and it was more of a controlled fall than anything, but it was better than the plummet that it had been.

Speech. Thought.

She was still falling.

The Golden Eagle twisted, arching her wings to try and gain some semblance of control over herself. But the winds continued to tear at her, flinging her head over tail feathers, talons over beak. It was all she could do to keep from being thrown back into the cliff from which she'd leaped.

The bird twisted and turned, arching her wings in a desperate attempt at evening herself out.

And then, suddenly, she was flying. She was thrust into the air, rocketing many, many winglengths in seemingly seconds, a gust buoying her from beneath her spread wings.

The Golden Eagle screeched, flapping her wings to see what would happen, gaining another foot in height. Oh, this was incredible!

Speech. Thought.

So she could climb, yes? The bird spread her wings wide, and screeched. A few pumps of her wings, and she climbed even higher.

She thought over what else she needed to know. Diving, for sure. To hunt, she needed to dive, didn't she? So, after a moments thought, she tucked her wings to her sides, and began to dive.

However, the wings whipped at her, and she was quick to fling out her wings as she was thrown to the side, fearing losing control again.

Speech. Thought.

Hera flew on for a few seconds more, before flattening her wings to the sides once more.

She began to plummet through the air, dropping as she counted down from five, before spreading her wings and taking flight once more. She hadn't dropped far, but she was confident in her ability to fly and dive and do everything she needed to at this point.
