BAD BLOOD - Eskrené - Jun 18 2015

Life awoke as if a fire alarm had been set off by lousy children lacking maturity. As if the timer on a kitchen microwave beeped to notify its completion. Lids flew like a lizard to reveal amazing bright orbs. Shinning from within her chrysalis, she flared small nostrils. Urges would tug her body, notions strong.

Her shoulders squeezed against the cyan womb. " How long have I been stuck.. " A mind that quickly grasped things, she was no where near oblivious of her existence. But being smothered within her womb was certainly new. As if she'd grown just too big for it. Could it be? The timer set off?

Quick reflexes sent her hind limbs kicking with impulse. Jacking them forward, she snapped the lower half of her cyan chrysalis with unbelieving ease. Eyes narrowed at the hole that gave way to flares of glowing sun. Eager to feel the strange warmth of this beam, she head butted her stone upon the chrysalis, cracking it hard enough to shatter.

This would send her back falling as support was no longer. Shoulders were now freed from their strained previous confinement. On her back, she felt the warm rays splash upon her grey coat, drenching her image. Eyes of cyan would widen as she'd trace her frontal limbs, following the spots that painted her entire body. Fascinated, she gasped to make a smile.

Shifting her weight, she sat upright upon haunches. Back arched and crown low, she looked down to find peices of her chrysalis surrounding her like a ring. She retrieved her tail, knowing her body. She was dangerous even as a child. Born with incubations of a contagious virus, she would absentmindedly toss her body without hesitation. Thrusting forward, she attempted to stand upon long limbs only to drop like a rag doll. Sighing, she fixed herself into a perch. Where was she anyway? And there she sat; a small grey body perched in between a thin slit of enormous boulders. Tunnled within.

The stocky lion cub walked through Polaris and deliberately entered Tunnel N to get to the next room, Orion. He was determined to travel to that cave again following his previous encounter with a raccoon. It was a lovely place with bright lights and interesting caves. Perhaps he might discover a clue to the gembounds' existence among the ancient ruins. To get there though, he had to pass through the connecting tunnel. Nose flaring, Usui inhaled the scents surrounding him as he padded along quietly. A sweet sugary scent uplifted the otherwise musky scent of a couple of smelly beasts ranging from tired birds to deer. There might have even been leopard and bear thrown inside, he couldn't be too sure. The tunnel then took a narrower turn and Usui decided to try to see if he could sense any lifeform before proceeding further. He did not want to collide into another creature now, not when he had a goal in mind.

His black jade gem glowed a ghastly black as he projected his magic. Immediately, he sensed the pulsing of a gem. It was blue with a tinge of green mixed inside. At first, it seemed to be faint, but then it grew stronger. What surprised the boy was that it flickered, almost unsteadily, as though it were in between the barrier of existence and oblivion. Usui's attention perked, and he momentarily forgot his quest for Orion. Instead, he picked up his pace and navigated to the source of that gem - and saw a tiny little leopard swathed in fluffy fur and surrounded by bits of her broken chrysalis.

Usui's thoughts went to Cancer. They looked exactly the same - leopard, even though their colours were different. She had fur of a much lighter shade. The boy padded closer to the tiny kit and sat down beside her. "Hello young one," he whispered to her in husky boyish tones and gave a friendly swish of his tail. Usui then waited to see how the kit would react to him.

Cyan orbs trembled slowly up to find a bulky cub joining her. She asked for no invite, but oblivious to her inner thoughts, she would watch as the boy neatly sat his tanned rump.

Large round eyes traced his rather smooth looking hide. His mane was missing still. Ears would turn to hear the voice of another for the first time. She flinched her tiny body in reflex. Timid almost, she scattered from his side within seconds of his verbal disturbance.

Who was he? What'd he want? Being a virus, she held insight of this. The little girl hid in the shade while she'd stare back at the chubby cub. Hiding because she didn't want to get him sickened & because she was simply scared.

Knowing not of Origin or its inhabitants, she felt intimidation. Already, streaks of protectiveness painted her character. A sense of self guarding. Guardian of protecting her life. For she now would cater to it. Survival instincts drenched her stance.

She said nothing yet, only giving a single chirp of greet. He sounded funny. And looked funny too. She was coupled with agility while he seemed to be more of the rugged type. Burly herself, she would crouch into a low hang. Eyes stared at the lion. A soft voice would echo from the shade. " wha' you wunt! "

She skittered away from him, young, spotted body bolting towards the shade upon his greeting. The lion cub gave an involuntary flick of his tail in surprise at her fear and let his gaze follow her, unsure if he should get up and move over to comfort her or stay put like an unthreatening inanimate object. In that split moment, Usui felt bad about causing her so much fright. He did not know if all new gembounds were like this when they were born – certainly not himself, but it occurred to him that some species might be more easily spooked than others. Once she was enveloped in the darkness, she peered out at him and greeted him in a rather friendly manner. Usui flicked his ears in acknowledgement and purred at her, baritone rumbling tones stemming from his throat and chest, conveying to her that he was safe. It seemed odd that she would be this friendly after bolting from him though.

Cyan eyes blinked and looked at him somewhat defensively. " Wha' you wunt! " her young, squeaky tone rang out. Usui did not feel threatened by the smaller gembound and her retort prompted his gentle, boyish chuckling instead. With an encouraging smile, the lion replied her. "Certainly not to eat you of course,” came his teasing reply. She was a funny one, skittering into the darkness before acting chummy with him. Curious, Usui probed her with raised brow. "Why d’you run from me? I mean no harm. Come, let me tell you what you are, what I am, and all about this world.” Now, the boy slid himself down such that he lay on the ground, head on forepaws, in the most non-threatening position ever, and waited for the cheetah to approach. He had realized that was what she was, for upon closer observation, she wasn’t leopard. Something told him, she was cheetah, similar but not the same.

It must have been a long while - and Usui thought perhaps she might be scared. "Well then, see you around little one," the boy called out softly and turned to walk away. Although he was leaving now, he would always be there for her if she needed him.
