curiosities and trinkets - Serek - Jun 24 2019

Serek paced, his short tail swishing behind him and eyes narrowed. He'd been here before, many, many times in his wandering. Typically, it was aimless.

Not this time.

With a wary look around, Serek raised his snout to the air, drinking in the scents. The mud hit him strong, but something else laid under it. Magic laced the air and dragged him closer to his goal. He just had to find out where it was coming from.

Mud caked his limbs as he trudged through, his body held high and away on spindly, long legs. As his muscles worked, Serek reached out his mind, looking to follow the trail left for him. His sniffing nose didn't contribute much to the magic extending out around him.

Almost immediately he felt a pull, his body invigorated as he tried to trudge forward even more. His tail flagged high. He was determined to find out what was infecting his bubble, what was dragging him out into the woods.

It wasn't soon after that Serek came across an odd structure. Vines had grown across the branches of a tree high above the hybrid's head. Serek's ears perked as the side of his lip curled, revealing sharp, canine-esque teeth hidden below. "Hey!" He barked out a command, a growl backing the exclamation. "Somebody up there?"

Pallas just got home. He had a long day, had a gem in tow, had things to do. He had to find some rope, maybe- or maybe he could set up some shelves, or maybe a special place for the little rock. Too bad he didn't have something to emit light; that would look amazing against the colors across the stone's surface. His swaying tail swung over the side of the patio after he finally scrambled up on three legs. He was busy looking over the wood with gemstone in paw when he was so rudely interrupted.

Annoyed, Pallas swung his head over the vine and stick mixture, ears flattened against his skull. "What do you want?" He hissed out, claws flexing and tail twitching. Who the Hydra was this? Why did they decide to bother him?

After a bare-tooth sigh, Pallas put down the gem and adjusted his body to face the hybrid, awaiting the answer with an impatient gaze.

Something was wrong. Serek eyed the ringed thing from the side- obviously a tail. Someone was up there. The hybrid huffed at the indigence of the tiny creature, his mane bristling in the slightest. However... It had something in its paw. The way it moved and put down something, it was hiding something.

The creature took a step back to fully see whoever was above him, locking eyes with him with body held stiff-straight. "What are you doing here? You're bleeding magic. It's disgusting. Stop." The 'taste' of magic had muddled his senses for the past day or so as he hunted in the groves- it was time he put an end to it. Whatever this thing was must have been putting off some waves of it. If it could cast spells powerful enough to attract his attention, well, maybe it wasn't a force to be reckoned with.

No matter. This thing was a pest, and he had to deal with it.

What was he doing here? Upset, Pallas's tail curled up behind him, his long body arching as his mouth swung open. Who was this to ask? "What am I doing? This is my home, for cave's sake! I don't even use magic!" This hybrid was an absolute idiot. There was no magic here. Pallas hadn't used magic in his life. Lips curled as his pinprick claws unsheathed themselves, the linsang perching on the edge of the patio.

A stroke of clarity struck him as his tail brushed the gem on the sticks. Wait. Gems- was this a Gembound's gem? That's where the magic came from, right?

A soft growl escaped Pallas's throat as he turned on the spot, scooping the gem in a paw. "You want your magic? Take it!" In one smooth scoop, Pallas lobbed the stone towards the ugly beast, his tail wagging in anger. It arced through the air and hit against Serek's shoulder with a soft 'pap' before landing to the mud below.

A guttural growl rose in the back of Serek's throat, rattling against his gem. Who was this lesser creature to talk back to him? Sharp teeth, the odd mix of herbivore and carnivore, glinted in the light of Cetus as his mouth opened. "You're obviously a liar, or I wouldn't be here!" This creature was the pinnacle of slow. It must have been lying to him; it had to be.

Serek was caught off guard as the Gembound continued and flung something at him. He flinched as it hit his shoulder. "What," Serek hissed, taken aback as he stepped to the side, eyeing the object that fell into the ground.

Wait, hold up. This... This was a Gembound's stone. Serek's muscles relaxed ever so slightly as he stepped closer, his lips returning to their normal positions. His ears folded back as he sniffed at it.

Yeah. This was a stone. In confusion (and still somewhat mild anger) Serek turned to accuse the Gembound. "Where did you find this?" His pelt stood on end as he eyed the creature before turning back to the stone, placing a paw over it in the mud. Was this the source of the calling? Was the little Gembound actually innocent? Closing his eyes, Serek breathed in and held his breath as he reached out with his magic, his throat constricting slightly as he reached into his reserves.

It held life. Serek's features softened as he took another step closer, eyes narrowing even further as his long neck bent down. Ever so carefully, he took the object in his teeth. "I'm taking this," he growled around the rock, dark eyes glancing up to the creature. That was one mystery solved.

The gemstone is a Tourmaline that sparkles and glitters in shades of warm red-pink--but at times, when turned, the light within seems to shift and reflect a rich green, instead. This stone once belonged to a Pupil (+1) magic level Impala.

Pallas stared down from his perch, teeth bared down at whatever collared creature was below him. It looked satisfied with the gem he had. While he wanted it back, he'd much rather just have this creature gone. He could find another trinket to decorate his abode with.

"Over in the mud," the linsang hissed, pointing a claw off in the distance. He didn't remember where. Why did this person care? "Take it. Whatever. Just leave." Pallas's tail flicked as he turned away, flexing claws grasping at the vines below. He paced back to his den and curled into it, his back to the smooth outline of the hole.

Hopefully, that would be the end of that conversation. He already looked like he was on his way out, anyways.

The gem sat heavy in Serek's mouth as he readjusted his hold on it, the mud poisoning his taste buds with its flavor. At the point, the hybrid glanced in the same direction before looking back. He held back a sarcastic thanks as the linsang. Well, that was helpful.

No matter, he had this gem now. He wasn't sure why he had it, but it was his now. Maybe he could give it life- or many he could hand it over to the Children of Rot. Perhaps he could ask the Divine about it.

The Divine. He had to talk to her again sometime. He missed her.

No, perhaps he could take it to his mother. She must have been fond of resurrecting gems. He was like living history, being one that she'd given life to. Besides, it'd been too long since he'd seen her face. Maybe the gem could be an apology.

The hybrid shook his head to clear his mind. He had to head that way anyways, to investigate whatever this Hydra business. If he managed to see her, he'd drop off the gem, otherwise he'd just take it to Dragon or something. He had no reason to hoard the remains of long-dead Gembound. Without a second thought, Serek turned and began to trudge away through the mud, carrying the source of the magic that'd attracted him back into the thick of the fog.
