[EVENT] Count THESE legs! - Game Master CJ - Feb 23 2020

Two weeks after [EVENT] (Incubating...)

The diamond chrysalis suddenly split in several areas, a dark and oily fluid leaking from the openings and pooling like goop at its base; inside, the dark shape could be seen rolling, curling, unfurling...

With a loud shattering only moments later, the entire chrysalis exploded into thousands of small, glittering pieces. A seemingly unending shape spilled from the inside: it was a creature made up of many segments, many legs, long—its crimson red body conformed to the shape of the cave, wrapping itself along the walls and ceiling as it avoided the others in its small space.

Aside from its unending length unfurling behind it, a large and imposing head shook itself free of goo, two fiery orange eyes opening, blinking; it had scythes for mandibles, and it reached with some of its long arms to clean itself, free itself of the black oil that clung to it.

Most remarkably, one of the scythes was thick diamond.

Finally, she looked upon the others...

Her two eyes squinted as she raised herself up, countless legs ticking against the stone as her body shifted and rolled; she lifted the upper half of her body as tall as she could without hitting the ceiling of the cave.

The scythes below her chin clicked together, rubbing upon one another as if sharpening themselves.

And then, a third eye opened in the middle of her forehead: it peeled open, revealing a shimmering eye of rolling fire. Waves of yellow and orange rippled erratically across its surface, and its pupil shifted from a circle to a slit as her focus moved across each of the present Gembound. Sparks of bright yellow-orange flicked out of it as she investigated.

But whatever she was looking for... it wasn't here.

Her attention turned out toward the jungle of Eridanus. If they were speaking to her, she was too preoccupied to notice. She was busy. She had a job to do first and foremost.

The slit in the middle of her third eye expanded, and her entire being ceased to move.

There. She saw it. Shimmering like a mirage some distance away—the energy. The target!

Her entire length shifted as she made to exit the cave, her form fluidly rolling across the walls and ceiling, stopping briefly as her normal eyes caught sight of a painting—her chrysalis? She paused to look upon it, her head twisting to view it from different angles.

"That's pretty," she commented, her voice several different tones emanating from the area of her face, but she did not seem to speak it with a visible mouth. Sparing no extra time to dillydally, she launched herself from the entrance of the cave and crashed into the underbrush at a high speed. The rest of her body followed; she was big but graceful. While fast, she left a trail of destruction in her wake and would be easy to follow if the others desired.

Your characters are free to follow Venari!

RE: [EVENT] Count THESE legs! - Game Master CJ - Feb 23 2020

She was careless.

As she threw herself headlong into the brush, she did not pay attention to what debris may be in her way and a stick poked her in her third eye—agh! She reeled back, squinting all eyes shut and covering her face with some of her legs. She'd have to be careful about that. No using the special eye when running—got it.

After recovering somewhat, she hissed and looked again—it was still here, somewhere in Eridanus. She set forth once more, this time closing her third eye as she ran.

RE: [EVENT] Count THESE legs! - Game Master CJ - Feb 23 2020

Her eye was still recovering, but she managed to make her way to a general area that seemed rife with the energy she was searching for.

"HEY," screamed her voice, thundering through the trees. "ARCANE MOONSTONE. SHOW YOURSELF." Her length raised, and free from the cave, she rose to stand at about fifteen feet tall; behind her curled the rest of her body, folding and rolling over itself.

Venari is calling @Atinneas !
Gembounds following from the cave will need at least 1 round to catch up to Venari.

RE: [EVENT] Count THESE legs! - Atinneas - Feb 23 2020

Atinneas was still angry at Astraea. She could never forgive him for what he did to Aetius. But, she still had to move on. As long as she stayed away from that stupid cursed damned deer. But as she lay to gather her thoughts, a screaming voice not too far away. Arcane moonstone? Did that creature mean...her? She stood with grace following the voice by sound until she felt she was standing right in front of whatever may have called for her. She may be blind, but her grace was that of any lioness. She spoke to whom she stood in front of. Her voice was calm, dignified, and proud. "You called for me, by the name of my gemstone? If you did, it would do well for you to know my actual name, not the name of my gemstone. I am Atinneas. May I ask what business you have with me?"

RE: [EVENT] Count THESE legs! - Erzu - Feb 23 2020

Erzu ran trying to catch up to the weird creature that broke free from its diamond chrysalis. She had slept near it for a little while. Now it was free, and quite scary looking. From what she could gather at least. She ran and ran, her breath quickening with every step. What was going on?! The aardvark ran at her full speed, her eyes focused on nothing but the newly hatched creature. She had to hurry. She needed to see it in full view.

RE: [EVENT] Count THESE legs! - Azizos - Feb 23 2020

Azizos didn't have much experience with life growing inside of chrysalises - he'd given life once before, although unwittingly, and he hadn't stayed around long enough to really see how long it took the child to develop (or if they'd ever emerged.) Again, the lion-stag wasn't aware of his own fatherhood.

But, when he heard a thunderous emergence and many legs shuffling, the kirin started after it. His nostrils flared as he tried to catch a scent on the wind, but found it utterly useless in comparison to simply following the massive hole in the undergrowth. Whatever'd come out, it plowed a path straight through Eridanus and called for someone.

Azizos trotted parallel to the path, keeping to the undergrowth and shadows with his tail flagging, pale eyes fixing dead ahead.

don't mind me catching up!

RE: [EVENT] Count THESE legs! - Deli - Feb 24 2020

Deli
Deli had spent their time on and off drawing up the chrysalis thing. The painting had come out very nice indeed - as realistic as a hand painting could be, but still with the canine's artistic flair. They raised their paw and looked at each of the dexterous fingers. These had certainly been very useful!

However, once the chrysalis had broken, Deli had bolted to their feet, eyes stretched wide with excitement at the sight of it. They stepped back when she started forward, pausing to look at their art, warmth spreading through their entire body at her commentary. Oh...nobody had been so nice about their art in a while! All insults or shrugging it off, nobody actually taking a moment to just...look at it!

They decided that they liked this creature and, so, when it took off, Deli was close behind, leaving behind their art supplies, for now, and running close to the ground, using their paws to throw themselves forward, chasing behind the creature. They wanted to see what had her so intent! Oh, this was exciting!!

RE: [EVENT] Count THESE legs! - Game Master CJ - Feb 24 2020

As she waited, the centipede-like creature rotated her head side-to-side, scanning with the third eye; finally, the energy honed into a singular spot. She watched it as it moved toward her, getting ready for whatever she may face—but...

"Huh," spilled her voice as she lowered herself to view the target on a more even level. This thing didn't look dangerous at all, certainly not on the level that had been instilled in her! Ah and it... was more than just a gemstone. "Very well, Atinneas," came her voice, its shifting tones hoarse but non-aggressive. For a moment, all she could do was look at this creature. It was polite and didn't seem to pose a threat. Still, the demand for its blood churned deep within the pits of her being.

Her body shifted and stopped rolling over itself; she stilled her restless legs and let her third eye close.

"You can call me... Venari," she decided, twitching her scythe-mandibles out of habit. Ah, yes, she was... more than diamond. She was Venari. The Hunter.

"My business with you is—" she reeled back suddenly, as if ready to defend herself "—to kill you!" Her arms wiggled as if she were being threatening. "I am the Hunter, and you are my first target. You have been deemed a threat and need to be exterminated."

@Atinneas

RE: [EVENT] Count THESE legs! - Atinneas - Feb 24 2020

"Exterminated? threat?" Atinneas spoke in a shocked manner, but calmed down, knowing what this was about. "Well then, Venari. I will have you know I am no threat to these caves. Perhaps the reason you see me as such is because of Astraea. I would never harm the life of these caves, or my fellow gembounds." She explained herself to the monstrous hunter, clearly. "You see, Astraea murdered a dear friend of mine, simply because she knew of his past form. Then he came to me, and my group, saying we kill someone, a job of murder. He came to check to see if we had done what we ask, and I brought up the truth that he killed Aetius, right to his face. He showed no apology or sympathy, uncaring. I may have lost my composure, and sought to injure him. Then he left. That was all I have done, and I know it was wrong of me to attack a master of the caves. But I am no threat to these caves I call my home. You may kill me, but..." She paused for a moment, then spoke again. "Answer me this. How would you feel if someone pointlessly murdered someone you held dear?" She waited to see if the hunter would answer before killing her. Atinneas didn't know what lies Astraea spewed of her, but the lioness was no danger.

RE: [EVENT] Count THESE legs! - Hecate - Feb 24 2020

The cry was deafening--"ARCANE MOONSTONE. SHOW YOURSELF." Hecate wasn't sure what this meant, but arcane she knew, and moonstone sounded nice.

Plus, the power behind that voice--that was interesting.

She turned her head, calculating; Eridanus was not great for flying, for the half-blind, even with her hearing. Open caves were fine, but this place was liable to see her crashing into trees. Hecate instead began a half-hopping, half-gliding rush for the shout, which hadn't been all that far off.

Whatever this was, she wanted to hear it. Not see it, not well--that was the trouble with having a gemstone shell over her eyes--but hear it, sure. It sounded like just the sort of thing to make very juicy gossip.
