i wanna know about you - Queen - Apr 20 2020

She was formless. A gem of hexagon had formed in place, a minuscule thing that'd grown to large proportions in the room that held her. Her. Who was she? She was... She. The cocoon of opal had grown large fast, and she wallowed in it for as long as she could.

She couldn't marvel at its colors. She couldn't feel its walls, she couldn't do much at all. Oh, how dreamy was it to be in the center of this honey and to simply be. Without the visual beauty to take in, she still found the life within gorgeous, stirring through her segmented body.

She pulsed against the edges of her chrysalis. It was tight. She couldn't breathe, she couldn't- she was hungry. She struggled to taste with her mandibles, struggling for more of the sweet honey that'd left the womb that held her. Oh, how hungry she was...

The crack was more felt than heard, and white grew from the confines that previously held it. Air had flooded into the chamber full of simply her. A gasp drew from her- air, and she tilted her head up to feel it.

Oh, how grand this was.

It is only the dose that makes a thing poison.

She is formless, she is growing, she is sleeping—a black caterpillar curled inside a red-hued gemstone, a tiny little neonate unaware of the world.

This, she does not know.

But, then—with an instinctive stirring, of movement, of pressing against the crimson walls of her chrysalis, it crackles, echoing out into the chamber, and then—

—and then it shatters, leaving a fuzzy black caterpillar curled among the grass, and this she does know, stretching and tapping little legs on the ground and awakening into a new world.

And she is awake, and she is—hungry, as all caterpillars are.

Conveniently, there is a piece of grass beside her, and she quickly sets to work on crawling up the blade and tearing delicious, juicy bits of it off as she goes.

No mind is paid to the little larvae just a few feet off from her—yet.

Her head roamed as she struggled to emerge from her confining quarters, feeling waves of wind waft over her worm-like body. It felt... Nice, nice to feel dry, to feel free.

But a creeping sensation of missing that comfort of a gem's hug came over her. She turned to the hard walls that held her in and worked her mandibles at it, rolling back into her body at the hard tang she received in turn. Ow ow ow- She tried again, softer, this time, breaking off edges after working a sharp tooth between her flesh and gem.

The sound of gem shattering- one that wasn't her own- drew her languid head to it, struggling to look through blurry, underdeveloped eyes at just what made the sound. "Who..?" Her voice was a bit too squeaky. What was that word she just.. Said? The concepts filling her brain felt alien to her and her head lowered. "Who there?"

Her head swung to the other side, looking at the moving plants around them and marveling at adding sight to her repertoire of senses. "Pretty..." She sounded wistful at it all, mandibles working as she imagined how the blurry greens felt against her sides.
