[STORY] The Shadow of Rhatan - Game Master CJ - May 16 2020 ![]() Lord Dhracia's visit had not gone unnoticed by anyone with enough magic sense to know Her and feel the presence she Commanded just by entering the caves. Lorekeeper herself had certainly felt it, but opted to curl herself further into the wall, hiding at best as she could. However, when the energy of Jupiter vanished, her cowardly little heart tugged at the memory of the centaur—and, more importantly, her friend Tamulus. Jupiter had visited her, yes, and they reminisced; and Jupiter told her of all the things they had accomplished on the surface, of how Tamulus had been well, et cetera. Slowly, her head peeked from the edge of the bone fortress of which she lived. If Jupiter were gone, had she left anything behind in her own den, hidden in the labyrinth of the Chambers? Lorekeeper was desperate to know, desperate to find anything to old on to. Jupiter had bestowed upon her one precious feather that she cherished beyond all meaning. It was white, glimmering with a gold shine, and charged with a static that she missed dearly. The gift of the familiarity of his magic meant everything to her; she could not express how much she appreciated it, or how lonely it made her feel. She knew that Jupiter had more and was making arrows with them, but what else did she have? Were there things to be found in her den? She struggled—a slender, spindly purple body dragging itself across Canis, desperate to reach the Chambers. Slogging through water and bones, she stopped frequently to pant and rest, before moving again, only to fall, again, into the water. Were there more relics of Tamulus? Could she find them? Maybe one of the Canis residents could help her reach the heart sooner. Her head lifted, many eyes blinking as she surveyed the area before—"Heeeeelp!" But as her lungs emptied, she collapsed wholly into a pool of water where she gasped for air and struggled to stay awake. She took on water and coughed, unable to move any further, even if just to free herself from drowning in a foot of water. "Heeruspslp...heeehsplsplp..." came her gurgling voice, quieter each time until her consciousness faded and she was lost to her own exhaustion. (RIP my roll thanks a lot website) -- Anyone is free to join this thread, but if your character attempts to save Lorekeeper, they must roll at least a barely successful in doing so.
RE: [STORY] The Shadow of Rhatan - Eythan - May 16 2020 Crouching down, hindquarters adjusting to gauge the distance and clear it — Splash-splash-splash-spl—! Adrenaline kicked in, ears pricking towards the increasingly weakening cries and limbs moving automatically. A full-on sprint was faster than taking to the air, and he came upon the puddle of water rather quickly. Without much thought, running on pure instinct, Eythan trudged forwards ( He went to fit his beak around the canine-esque creature's nape, mindful of the spines, and hauled upwards. It was awkward, but... he managed — wings flapping to maintain balance otherwise lost trying to drag dead weight across wet stone. They made it to shore, and he set the canine down in a panic. Tail bristling, puffed out to its full fluffiness in apprehension, he circled her once. She wasn't awake. Cave CPR Training? Nonexistent. Tagging Bonebound! @Giggle @Ischium @Kerberos @Damask ... others? I forget. RE: [STORY] The Shadow of Rhatan - Ischium - May 16 2020
RE: [STORY] The Shadow of Rhatan - Giggle - May 16 2020 Giggle lived and "worked" (such as it was) not far off from the Lorekeeper's den, and made it a point to periodically visit. A story shared or, far more often, a meal delivered was their only interaction, usually; the Lorekeeper herself was ancient, decrepit, and malformed, and could hardly visit Giggle with any ease. When she heard the shouting--Eythan, of all Gembound--she dropped everything and bolted as quickly as she could toward his voice. "EYTHAN?!" she cried, and found to her own surprise that her heart was pounding in fear for him. There'd be time to think that little nugget over later; lately all she'd held was vague suspicion. Maybe it was time to remember why she'd initially accepted him again-... When she rounded the corner, bones skittering away at the flailing skidding of her paws, wide eyes found a bizarre scene. Eythan, having pulled Lorekeeper from a puddle (oh, shit, she was drowning) and Ischium-... Jumping on her?! "What are you DOING?!" she barked, hoarsely, and came to a scrambling halt by the Lorekeeper's side. "Was she drowning?! Is she--dead?" Giggle shoved forward, moving to grip jaws into the Lorekeeper's admittedly-spiny neck, trying to prop her onto her chest--and then leaned against her, to both support her upright and provide her with body heat. It wasn't... great, but having her on her chest, instead of on her side, seemed wise. Then she bellowed: "LOREKEEPER! WAKE UP. DON'T DIE ON US!" Only belatedly did she realize that she hadn't avoided the spines quite as well as she'd thought. The taste of blood was sudden and unwelcome in her mouth, and the dripping from her jaws reeked of sickly-sweet metallic stench.
RE: [STORY] The Shadow of Rhatan - Damask - May 16 2020 damask raced through the room at top speed, flying low, wings slicing through the air as she wheeled around the stalagmites and fortresses that hurtled into her way. her ears swiveled like satellites, pinpointing the source of the cry flap-by-flap against her zigzagging path. "BONEBOUND?!" that voice, she knew. damask alighted on the shore, glancing edgewise at eythan before flicking her eyes to the half-drowned creature below — and then the absolute idiot with a feverish thrum of her stone, damask weaved a gust of wind in the atmosphere around them. RE: [STORY] The Shadow of Rhatan - Vargas - May 16 2020 Shouting, and then voices--distant, but frantic, the words rapid. His head came up, and tilted, and for a moment pleasant memories of old times drifted past him. Then he was in motion, his immense and fluidic strides carrying him swiftly toward the sounds. What he found surprised him, and not in a clickbaity sort of way; instead there lay a creature very clearly of the old design, all toxic greens and spikes and purples. He couldn't quite make it out from here, but it seemed injured, with Gembound clustering all around it. Vargas slowed his pace, striding forward, glancing about with old habit to ensure it wasn't some form of trap. It didn't seem to be, at least, and he came to a halt some thirty feet away, leaving the cluster of smaller creatures their space. From their words, at least, he caught the context, and with a curious tilt of his head, he lowered himself to his haunches. And he did this because he was about to try a powerful bit of magic, and since his reawakening, magic seemed to rebel against him more than any of these beasts ever had. He braced himself for the inevitable cramps, and took a breath to focus. Nothing happened, which was better, at least, than it backfiring. He offered his magic an annoyed mental shrug and looked to the clot of creatures. "Who is that?" he demanded, eyeing it over. And then, tilting his head, "Do not allow it to die." In an older era he'd have been trying to kill this thing, but there were lingering traces of that same old era on it, and finding anything decent worth using these days had been... tragic. The Masters might have been lazing about playing "be a deer," but Vargas wanted to get things up and running, for his own sake if nothing else. Maybe this one could be useful--with alterations. RE: [STORY] The Shadow of Rhatan - Sharp - May 16 2020 Sharp
Sharp was barely a few days old and already was dealing with a drowning old lady. She wasn't even sure how she found herself here. The day started off like any other-- waddling around Monoceros, having fun stomping on the little blades of grass that miraculously withstood the wind, when she saw it-- a shiny little stone by the cave entrance. And Sharp being, well, Sharp, she instantly started prancing after it with childish glee. And once she thoroughly sniffed it, she saw another! And another! Gosh, this whole place seemed to be made of shiny rocks (which it certainly was, but Sharp never noticed much of anything)! Soon the little lizard was blissfully stomping around the caves looking for more shinies, completely oblivious to the happenings around her. "Heeelp!" The faint cry cut through the little bubble of tranquility Sharp was in. She climbed onto the top of one of the bones in the room as her brain tried to process what "help" could possibly mean. I bet it's a friend! she decided, and with a burst of glee she abandoned her current pebble and went scampering to the call. She noticed the silhouettes of larger, faster creatures racing towards the call (wow, even more friends!), and she pushed herself to run a little faster with a spark of magic. She finally made it, though it was obvious she was late to the party. A large and rangy purple-thing was lying still, surrounded by a whole bunch of others. Most of them looked scary-- especially that strange wedge-headed thing-- but they didn't seem to be there to hurt the old hag, just worried. After a beat of hesitation she scooted herself right up to the larger gembounds, looking painfully oblivious to the lilac canine's plight. "Hi, friends!" she giggled, though she was most certainly drowned out by their panicked shouting. "What's with purple-fur-friend? Is there something wrong?" RE: [STORY] The Shadow of Rhatan - Game Master CJ - May 16 2020 Lorekeeper blinked in and out of consciousness. There was a pressure on her side and the cries of others ringing like echoes in the back of her mind, until—whooosh!—a gust of air filled her lungs. Violently, she coughed awake, sputtering and hacking water from her lungs as she tried to prop herself against the others, a close body she was not aware of yet, but angled herself; she had been righted, at some point, and it helped immensely as she panted and gasped for air, the last bits of water drooling from her lips.
There was a moment where she simply existed, finding her breath again, before her eyes blinked and surveyed all those who had come to her rescue— "Overseer!" she gasped, recoiling from him, scrambling to hide herself among the others. There were familiar faces and scents but those did nothing to ease her pounding heart. Oh, if she hadn't died to drowning, surely this is where she would die! ...but she was not dying. Her head curled around to look at him, lips curling over her teeth in a forced smile. Yes, he would not have known of her; she had been hidden well, kept secret, tended—her ears came forward and she cleared her throat. "Ahem, thank you," she rasped, finding her balance against Giggle while completely unaware of the other's injury. She looked beyond the group and let out a weak sigh. "I am trying to reach the Chambers," she explained, her breathing hoarse. "But I cannot... get there alone." Her ears rested back as she looked upon the others. "I would be grateful... for your help... again," she managed weakly with the hint of a cheeky grin. Loose posting order; this round is optional.
RE: [STORY] The Shadow of Rhatan - Giggle - May 16 2020 Giggle glanced about at the thickly-gathering crowd, blinking a little past the faint dizziness growing in her. Her jaw was bleeding fairly badly--the roof of her mouth lacerated, she thought, judging by the lance of pain now that her adrenaline was wearing off. Great. She lapped at her jaws with a swipe of a bloody tongue, glancing briefly at Vargas--she'd seen him around--and then to Damask. "Well done. Think you saved her," she praised, simply enough. Then she pushed to her feet, swaying a tad but nothing too bad--yet--and looked to the Lorekeeper. "I can probably support... some of her weight, at least, if someone can get her on my back." They were about the same size, Giggle thought--Lorekeeper might even have a taller frame, but she was thin, and light, and Giggle was a strong and healthy weight. "Are you feeling all right?" she asked, rasping the question a little worriedly toward Lorekeeper herself.
RE: [STORY] The Shadow of Rhatan - Vargas - May 16 2020 Vargas cocked his head, a little, studying the Lorekeeper. She was obviously some old, but failed, design or other, probably crawled off here and meant to be dead a long damn time ago, judging by her crippled hind limbs. Past that, he didn't know--if she'd been something more or less important. But she'd survived this long, and she was certainly better than... well. Six toxic green eyes ranged over the strange hyena and the feathered beasts, and he sighed quietly. Better than that. "Who are you?" he asked bluntly, pushing up. The Gembound seemed to have her movement under control, though Vargas paced over; if need be he could carry her himself, though he wasn't sure why she wanted to go, specifically, to the chambers. Otherwise, he would simply tag along and watch, and listen, to see what happened with this lot. He had very little else to do righ tnow. |
