That Last Step's A Doozy - Baratheon - Jul 07 2015

BARATHEON
"the world is mine for the taking"

The dragon usually hung around Orion, unless he was exploring. Today, he wasn't really looking to find anything new... It just sort of happened. One moment he was running about in the tunnel near Orion and the next he was in the land full of bones. He gazed around at the pinkish things with awe in his eyes. There were so many! The piles were so large! The little dragon practically danced on his paws at all the bones. Normally when he ate his food he never saw the bones, everything just disappeared down his throat in a hungry and crazed gulp... after he'd torn it apart, of course.

Fortunately for the denizens of Canis the dragon had eaten not too long ago, his Bloodlust no less terrible. That little incident was behind him though as he was still a child and in his childlike way he thought the Bloodlust would just take care of itself. He had had one episode with Kerberos but that had only ended in friendship so perhaps it would keep being that way. Either way, it was nothing too serious. Things always sorted themselves out.

Ah well... Now he had other things to worry about. Like these bones! Could he eat bones too?

He sniffed at a pile and located one that was rather delicious smelling before he pulled it out with a paw. Of course, this upset the whole pile and caused it to rattle before going into a boneslide. With a "yipe" the young dragon ran away on three paws. The only problem was that it was harder to keep balance with three paws... Especially when you were a young dragon who hadn't gotten his full length tail and coordination yet. It was no surprise when he tripped over his paws and ended up in a heap on the floor with the bone he had formerly held clattering across the ground.

"Oops.."

RE: That Last Step's A Doozy - Giggle - Jul 07 2015

Giggle padded over toward the creature, peering down at him. She came to a stop at the bone he'd dropped, placing one paw down on it for a long moment as she spoke.

"Taken a wrong turn...?" Her voice was deep and rough, rather masculine, her tone wry. She lightly kicked the bone toward him with her forepaw, so that it spun and rattled back his way. It wasn't one that was particularly special, and so she didn't make a fuss over it.

"I don't think we've met before... In fact, I don't think I've ever seen anything like you. Particularly not pilfering bones from my pile," she added, through her voice was dry with good humor. In truth, aside from the well-worn paths and the mushroom rings, there wasn't really anything to separate "her" pile from any other, so she wasn't being particularly serious. In the same wry tone, she spoke again.

"I don't suppose you were here to have your fortune told."

She peered down, tilting her head at the fallen Gembound before her, silently waiting for his response.

BARATHEON
"the world is mine for the taking"

Out of the shadows of the other bone piles came a large --large compared to him-- animal. She had a sloped back and strange spotted fur. He liked it! He also liked the scent of meat and bones that clung to her... it was nice. The dragon expected to be reprimanded for playing in the piles... Usui had introduced him to the awful world of scolding so his lowered his ears and crouched towards the ground with his tail curling around himself. The scolding didn't come though, just a question... a question which he nodded to answer. Well.. had he really taken a wrong turn? He hadn't taken any turns at all really... He'd just gone in a direction and ended up here in this wonderful place.

The animal sent the bone skittering back in his direction and Baratheon happily pounced on it. He sank his fangs into it wondering for a moment if it would bleed and send him off into the Bloodlust. This never happened as old bones aren't known for their bleeding capabilities. Great! He could chew on it! Which he just recently found was fun and test out of his fangs without hurting anyone!

His large ears raised when the gembound asked spoke again. He didn't stop gnawing the bone but his ears tilting towards her and the slight incline of his head showed that he was listening. When she mentioned him pilfering the bones he stopped chewing and pushed the bone towards her. "I'm sorry... I didn't know it was yours. Do you want it back?" Not that a half-chewed almost destroyed bone was useful in any way but he was trying to be nice to this kind soul who hadn't scolded him. Even though he had stolen her bone.

His head tilted to the side at her next question. "Fortune?" His snout wrinkled as he tried to think about what on earth having his fortune told would mean. "What's that?" He asked blinking up at her.
"Oops.."

RE: That Last Step's A Doozy - Giggle - Jul 07 2015

The hyena tilted back her head and let out what was, to her, a gentle laugh. In reality it was more of a bit of a cackle, but at least she'd tried, right?

She looked down at the white-fluff-thing, and smirked.

"No, I've given it to you, you may keep it. I am Giggle, and I tell fortunes. A fortune's when I look at the bones, and tell you what I see in your future. They show me things, things no one else can see. Or... if you're just hungry," she added wryly, "there's rats living around the western walls."

The hyena quietly sat, smirk still faintly showing on her face. She showed no signs of impatience; it didn't seem that Baratheon had interrupted anything. Instead, Giggle almost seemed like she had all the time in the world to simply sit, looking vaguely amused as she observed this newcomer to Canis chewing on a bone.

For a moment I thought it couldn't speak. It looked like a dog, a puppy, with that bone-chewing and huddling down. But now it can speak. I wonder what, exactly, it is...?

BARATHEON
"the world is mine for the taking"

Oh? He could keep it! Excitedly he grabbed the bone and began his chewing again. Ah, how delicious it was. If only it had meat on it... Well, you couldn't have it all. He was unbothered by now with the lack of meat as his tail began swaying from side to side, showing his obvious joy at being granted the bone.

So... her name was Giggle? That was a funny name! Or rather, a happy name! He liked it! It wasn't as strong like Baratheon or Ghanyarah but it had its own charm. "Giggle!" He mirrored cheerfully before peering up at her, a bright joy in his eyes. "My name's Baratheon... the dragon!" Just like his brother Dragon, he was one too! He had to remember that.

Fortunes sounded wonderful to hear... the rats sounded good too. He could feel that feral joy rising up within him at the thought of tearing into a tasty rat and he had shake his head to clear it. No. He wanted a fortune. He'd eaten already. There was no need to be greedy. "Can I have a fortune, Giggle? They sound cool!" Besides, he could always just eat later a rat later.

Giggle couldn't help but laugh, warmly, and any faint reservations she'd had about this stranger's presence melted away in the face of his bubbling, youthful enthusiasm. Here, she thought to herself, was a genuinely friendly young creature, inoffensive and harmless. Her maternal side thus prompted, she spoke to him kindly.

"Hello, Baratheon--the dragon. A pleasure to meet you. A fortune--good choice. Come on, then," she said to him, her voice almost motherly and the smile still on her face. She turned and padded back to the pile at a leisurely pace. "Just throw the bone into the pile--you can have it back, afterward," she added, stepping aside and glancing back to Baratheon with a smile.

I wonder why he's here all alone? And I wonder what the bones will say about him? I hope it's something good; the pup seems good-hearted enough.

BARATHEON
"the world is mine for the taking"

At the strange animal's laugh Baratheon couldn't help but smile brightly and wag his tail even harder. He liked Giggle! She seemed really nice and she hadn't even been mad about the bone! He gave one last chew on the bone before picking the slimy thing up in one paw, while he used the other three to follow Giggle. This time he was extra careful with what he did with his paws so he didn't fall down while trying to follow her. Gee... How embarrassing would that be to fall down twice in one day?

"Okay!" He said cheerfully. The dragon tossed the bone onto the pile then took a seat on his rump, causing a cloud of dust to erupt from his not too graceful plop. He lifted both his forepaws into the air and clasped them together exitedly while he stared down at the first the pile then at Giggle, his eyes blinking at her eagerly. Oh boy! His first fortune! He wondered what it would say? Would he get a fortune about playing?Or controlling his Bloodlust? Gee, he hoped so!

RE: That Last Step's A Doozy - Giggle - Jul 07 2015

Giggle was smiling indulgently as the dragon pup--was that the correct term? Were they pups? Cubs? Calves? She wasn't sure--but she smiled as he tossed the bone, then grasped his own forepaws. Oh, he was just adorable. She strode up to sit beside him, a couple feet away, watching as the slimed, chewed bone clattered back into the pile and spun the others round and round, sending some skewing right out of the pit altogether.

For a few moments, she studied them, watching as they came to rest, picking patterns out of the way they'd come to settle.

At length the hyena tilted her head, a quizzical smile passing over her face as she spoke. She tried to keep the words simple, for the youth of the cub... calf, thing; but the meanings seemed rather important to get across.

"All right, Baratheon, the dragon. This is what I see in your future. There are places where the bones are scattered, and the--... Well, they say that you enjoy yourself, very much, and lose yourself in wild abandon from time to time. There is a mystery, there. They say to be careful with it, with such games." She wasn't sure how better to phrase this: it was an overall positive sign, she thought, a symbol that he enjoyed his life, but that he might lose himself in it now and then, and ought to keep watch on that. Shrugging internally, she continued.

"Then there are bones crossed, tangled together. You will seek out friends and allies, and they will be close to you, and the bonds you form will be unbreakable. Friends. Family. An alliance."

She then glanced at the dragon, smiling faintly again, good-naturedly. All in all it was positive, but this last part, it was a bit strange. The bones here formed a straight line, and where the line was broken, it reformed elsewhere. It seemed to speak of rebirth, yet in a way that spoke of his unflinching spirit. The bones seemed to be saying, all at once, both that he would never break--and that if he died, he would simply be reborn, too strong to keep down for very long. She hesitated, trying to put this into words.

"Nothing will ever destroy your spirit, dragon. You will be resilient and unbreakable, and even if you fall, you will just rise up again, stronger than before." And she smiled at him. His demeanor--friendly, joyful and open--combined with the bones, spoke to her of a bright, strong and happy future.

She was happy for Baratheon. And she hoped it showed.

"You can take the bone back, now, if you want."

BARATHEON
"the world is mine for the taking"

The dragon waited with baited breath as the hyena sat a couple of feet away, preparing to give his fortune. Baratheon's overly large ears were perked, sitting straight up like two radars. For a moment her words bounced around mysteriously in his head... What did they mean exactly? His nose scrunched as he thought about them. Did wild abandon mean his bloodlust? He had never thought of his bloodlust as a game but what if it was? What if he just tried really really hard to control himself? Like harder than he ever had before? Well... He could do that! His snout unwrinkled as he nodded his head resolutely, as if he understood her words completely.

He leaned forward towards her, paws coming unclasped and mouth opening slightly as she spoke. Friends and allies? Family? He loved finding out he had family and about friends and allies... Yes! He formed all sorts of bonds! This gem was so wise and smart! The last fortune made not as much sense to him. Of course he had a good spirit... He liked to keep positive! Had he not just risen a moment ago when he fell on the ground. He shook his head. Perhaps he'd understand things better when he was older.

After he was told he could get the bone he reached forward with a paw, then held it. It didn't go in his mouth again... He just stared at it, without words. What should he say? This gem had just given him hope! He could control himself! She had said so! He just had to work extra hard! With this revelation he had a surge of joy and happiness that this one had helped him. So after a moment the bone clattered to the ground as he first fell forward on his face. He'd tried to grab Giggle but failed miserably... After a few moments he was back up again, no less enthusiastic as he lurched towards her again. This time he managed to wrap his paws around the hyena in a hug. Her fur smelled funny and she wasn't as soft as Flafe... but that didn't matter. She was still nice and had given him so much hope. He buried his snout into her fur and said, "Thank-you..." After a moment he lifted his gaze up to Giggle, a smile on his face while his pink eyes twinkled with joy.

She wasn't Flafe... but she was nice to snuggle with like Flafe. That's what Usui had said, right? That he should find something nice snuggle with to control himself. This day was certainly looking up! Until he got the min-Flafe... whatever that was... He could snuggle with Giggle!

RE: That Last Step's A Doozy - Giggle - Jul 07 2015

Giggle stared down in startled surprise as the young dragon lurched to hug her, and for a split second wondered if it was a trick, or an attack, or what. The creatures she knew showed affection, certainly, but hugs were new to her. After a moment she laughed, and gently nuzzled the creature's head.

"...You're welcome. The bones will speak through me, to anyone who asks." This was a kind explanation, given in the tone of "no need to thank me."

Oh, she was ever the young motherly type, taking in this stray and that pup. Sometimes she wound up with adopted children, basically; other times, misguided youngsters attacked her as she tried to help. But this one seemed friendly enough, and she found herself curious, and slightly concerned for his well-being.

"Where do you live, Baratheon? Do you have family to look after you, for now? Friends? ...Are you hungry?"
