The Hunt Is On - Comet - Aug 07 2020 Comet
Comet stalked through the thick ferns, she was looking for some prey to hunt. Her nose twitched, taking in every scent of the surrounding area. Her left ear was pricked, straining to hear the slightest sound of an animal moving through the thick underbrush. She heard the birds chirping above her, prey, but she couldn't fly. She would have to settle for a rabbit or mouse. There it was, the slightest movement of a leaf, the crackle of a broken branch. Comet stalked up as close as she could, then pounced on the unsuspecting creature. The rabbit almost sprang out of her reach, but she snagged it by the tail. Yes! A good kill. Comet devoured the rabbit, looking around to make sure no one would steal her catch. RE: The Hunt Is On - Comet - Aug 07 2020 Comet
Comet licked her lips. She wanted more food. The rabbit had been quite small, and hadn't done much to fill her belly. Sure, she was small, but the rabbit didn't amount to much, really. She continued walking around the area, when she spotted a bird-- on the ground. That meant something good, she couldn't get them in the air, but if they are on the ground, it is much easier to catch. The bird was using its one eye to peck at a bug in the ground, it seemed really focused, so hopefully it wouldn't notice Comet sneaking up on it. Her white fur did not help much, it made it rather hard for her to blend in with the green undergrowth. She sneaked up, and darted out her paw. Success! Even though she snatched it by the leg, it was still a good catch. Although she didn't appreciate the abundance of feathers. It tasted weird. RE: The Hunt Is On - Comet - Aug 07 2020 Comet
Even though she was hungry, the bird did not look very appetizing to Comet. She sighed. The rabbit took the edge off her hunger, so she didn't feel the need to eat this disgusting bird right now. But she had to take precautions, if another animal found this bird here when she came back to get it in case she didn't catch anything else, they would steal it. Comet cleared away a few rocks, and attempted to break away the damp earth and dig a hole to bury the bird in. The ground broke away under her paws easily, and she quickly dug the hole, dropped in the bird, and reburied it. Great! RE: The Hunt Is On - Sunny - Aug 07 2020 Perched on a log and munching on some ferns was a snail. She was quickly approaching her adult size, although she'd plateau soon at around half of it and continue to grow slowly over the next two cycles rather than in leaps and bounds like she had been. While she ate, she enjoyed the damp warmth of Eridanus -- the geothermal energy fueling this room made it an excellent home, but Sunny still felt her wanderlust, even as she and Tema lingered here. Still, it made an excellent place to refuel. She watched silently as a young-looking canine-pup wreaked havoc on the local ecosystem and then decided to dig herself something of a hole; mostly, Sunny's attention was drawn to the blue stone perched on her head. Sunny watched the wolf look around, and wondered absently if she was all alone in this world. What a tragedy. "Any family?" she called, likely startling the young creature -- it would have been reasonable to assume she was a Lesser, after all. @comet RE: The Hunt Is On - Comet - Aug 07 2020 Comet
Comet was busy tracking down the scent of a mouse when she was startled by a snail. She licked her lips, in looked slimy, but yummy. She walked close and gave it a sniff, it was quite a big snail. And then it asked her a question. Comet did a near backflip in the air. @Sunny RE: The Hunt Is On - Sunny - Aug 07 2020 Her eyestalks shifted as she looked at Comet, taking a pause from dragging leaves over her radula. "Not meat. Bones are good for shell-making, but my shell is stone. No making to be happening." Sunny continued to eat, pondering that news. A father? "No mother, then." She sized Comet up for a moment, thinking back to the stones tucked away in her and Tema's nest for safe-keeping -- and the strong protective urge she felt towards them and the rest of her friends. "Sunny," she said, gesturing with her lower tentacles to her own body. "I am family-making, yes? I have Tema-kin, and Little-stone Madhukar. Two life-stones in my hoard. If the little gray one seeks more family," she offered sweetly, pouring as much charisma into her words as she could, "Sunny-snail can offer it." @comet RE: The Hunt Is On - Comet - Aug 07 2020 Comet
Comet thought over what the snail had said. Yes, it was true she had a father, and another one actually, but he wasn't present currently. She wasn't sure what Aristotle would think, but this snail sounded really nice. But since she already had two dads, she wasn't sure if she needed a mother. @Sunny RE: The Hunt Is On - Comet - Aug 07 2020 Comet
The snail appeared to be deep in thought, so Comet wandered off to a place in calling distance to look for more prey. Beneath a plant was a huge bug. She wondered if bugs were edible, they didn't look very yummy. In the end, she decided to ignore it. After all, such a disgusting thing did not look appetizing. She raised her nose into the air to scent for some prey. She caught a faint whiff of mouse, just underneath a plant nearby. RE: The Hunt Is On - Comet - Aug 07 2020 Comet
The trail of mouse was a bit stale. Comet followed the trail back to Sunny the snail, who was still pondering her answer, and into a hole in the ground. She started digging, and when the mouse emerged, she chased it around and around the log. In the end, she decided she would be better off leaping over the log and on top of the mouse. She crouched down and sprung. Yes! It had worked. She walked back to Sunny the snail and waited for her answer. RE: The Hunt Is On - Sunny - Aug 07 2020 Sunny processed the word briefly and had been about to give her response when the wolf wandered off. Irritation seeped into her like the moisture in the air. Impatience bothered her for a lot of reasons, but she saw it as particularly rude to wander off in the middle of a conversation. Sunny waited for Comet to be finished, trying to keep the exasperation out of her voice. "What is grand-mother? I do not know that meaning." She understood each part of it separately. A mother? Absolutely! Someone who nurtured, who defended, who was willing to put her life on the line to make sure her children were safe, happy, and loved. Grand -- high, wise, or great. Perhaps a grand mother was something very nice... but she'd get clarification on the term anyway. @comet |
