Don't Eat a Rainstorm - Comet - Aug 23 2020

Comet
Arctic Wolf
Comet's paws took her on the very familiar path from Orion to Eridanus. Just another day of hunting and exploration was waiting for her. That was when she saw something. But it was really dark, and it was not easy to see things in the dark. A tuft of blue feathers, prey. That would be a lucky catch, it seemed like whoever the feathers belonged to was a HUGE bird too, probably her size. Comet would bring that bird home for a feast if she caught it. She steadied her muscles, then pounced.

Rainstorm was unbearably lost. Leaving Eridanus was a mistake. Even with their echolocation and unbearably sensitive whiskers, they had not been able to find their way back home. If that place even was a home anymore. They didn't know.

Rainstorm loved how green that place was all the time, but they could no longer see the green that made that area like no other. It was sad. Plus that place had so much activity it terrified the bird.

They still wanted to go see it.

And then something nearly pounced on them. Dark wings spread wide, glowing eyes open, rainstorm was determined to scare whatever it was off. The shadows from the spells rolled off of the bird like clouds, the scene really would have looked like something out of a scary movie.

Darn! She had missed! The bird was going to fly away and there was no way of catching it now. But, the bird didn't fly away. It stayed right where it was, stupid bird. Comet prepared herself to try catching it again when it turned towards her with widespread wings and glowing eyes. She froze in fright, it was a very intimidating bird. Was it even a lesser? No, she saw the gemstone that caused the magic at the tip of their beak. "Whoops, sorry about that, I'll just--" Comet scrambled backwards and away from the scary bird. She hid behind a rock to recollect her thoughts, and her courage.

Rainstorm could hear the words coming out of the things mouth, and hear the scuttling of paws on the ground that meant it had retreated. The lady had retreated. The shadows left, too, but the glowing remained. Rainstorm still had no idea they looked like they did.

"The fucking audacity some of you creatures have! I have lived through so many deaths of others and this is how the caves repay me? Death at every corner! I can't even see anymore!" the bird started ranting at the air, obviously pissed at the caves for one reason or another. Their batlike ears were pulled back and if they could snarl they would.

Comet pricked her ears to hear the angry rant of the bird. She learned two things: one, the bird had seen a lot of death, and two, they were blind. The second thing was most important to Comet, and it told her that she would be safe to emerge from her hiding spot, since the bird couldn't see her anyway. She crept out, keeping her paw steps light. Even if the bird did know she was coming it wasn't like it was a big danger anyway, but she didn't want it to do the scary eye thing again.
But her paw accidentally nudged a pebble, and the loud sound echoed through the tunnel. Oh no. She froze in place.

Rainstorms angry yelling was silenced by the stone that caused an echo to cascade through the cave they were in - in a quick flash the bird turned again in an attempt to locate where the sound came from. They didn't know if it was the right area, but their glowing eyes were wide in an attempt to see that would never come. If they could see they surely would have returned that attack from before.

This bird reminded Comet of someone she had met before. Mayfal. They were both blind, and a bit explosive. But Mayfal had turned out to be really nice on the inside, so perhaps this bird would be too? Maybe he just needed some guidance to get out of this place. "Hey," she stepped closer, not hiding her paw steps, "Do you need help?"

Truthfully, rainstorm could see somewhat. Granted it wasn't actual pictures being played in their head, and more like sounds bouncing off of things to alert them where things were. They knew the wolf was just about as big as they were from the sounds bouncing off of things, but not that comet was a wolf.

They also knew where the walls of the caves were, but not which area of the caves they were in. Rainstorm knew that they had some weird ears on their head, from the moving those ears did when they were trying to use echolocation and it actually working.

"I don't know about you, but I don't think I would want help from someone that just tried to eat me. As if I would fall for some half assed trap like that!" they replied, taking to pay attention to where the sounds of their voice were bouncing off to locate an exact location of the wolf speaking at them.

Comet watched the bird's ears rotate in all directions, she didn't even know that birds could have such ears. But then again, she had only ever met lesser birds. She walked a bit closer to the bird, but out of striking distance. What they said made sense, but she really did want to help them.

"I'm sorry. I thought you were a lesser bird. Are you sure you don't want help? How about you can jump on my back. Then I can't bite you." Comet wanted to gain the bird's trust, she had to convince them that she was safe, because if she left them here they would surely be eaten by the next predator that came around.

Rainstorm thought the wolf in front of them seemed neurotic - trying to murder them and then offering help as if that hadn't just happened before this. How stupid, she seemed. Lumbering and just about the same size as Rainstorm themselves. Rainstorm wanted nothing to do with sitting on top of that thing and riding it.

"I refuse." They replied.

Rainstorm was smarter than that wolf thought she was. They were a hydra champion for crying out loud! Nothing could stop this pigeon from surviving, even the fate of being blind but not so blind they couldn't figure out direction. Not being able to see what was there was the problem, they could figure out the openings to each cave themselves, just not where the openings of those caves lead.

"You can point me where I need to go and then I will go there myself. Despite being blind I still know how to find my way around. Plus I can scare other things off, a hydra champion isn't just going to let themselves die." They added with an angry tone.
