Raining Cats and Dogs - Kitty - Aug 25 2020

Kitty had been lingering in Eridanus, fond of its plentiful grasses and somewhat less plentiful trees. Climbing had quickly proven to be something she excelled at, and she'd actually recently woken from sleeping at the highest stable point she'd had the strength and energy to climb up to. Now she was skirting lower branches in search of something to eat, and had caught sight of a little scurrying thing a few minutes ago. She'd leapt for the tiny, fleshy creature from her tree and down into the ferns but had missed, sending it fleeing desperately into the shadows.

The little red panda wasn't too fond of shadows, though, so she'd sulked for a little bit and decided to steal the reddish scurrying creature's meal of ferns and seeds instead. Not that seeds were all that palatable to her, but hey, what doesn't kill you, right? It was more of a pride thing at this point.

Comet
Arctic Wolf
Comet was strolling through the forest when he left ear detected a sound. A rustling in the treetops. What was it? Looking up, she spotted the body of a red panda. Having never seen a red panda before, she thought it to be something like a red raccoon. She watched silently as it leaped down from the tree in an attempt to catch a red mouse. Well if the red raccoon couldn't do it, Comet decided that she would catch it for her. Her fast legs soon carried her to the mouse and with a swift bite to its neck, it was dead.

The wolf picked it up gently in her jaws, and walked over to ferns where the red raccoon was. "I saw you were trying to catch this. Here you go." she dropped the mouse into the ferns, and waited for a response.

Now, Kitty was an exceptionally shy little creature. She was also reactive, so when a creature significantly larger than her with teeth and claws and (albeit awkward proportions associated with youth) approached her, Kitty very quickly realized that she had nowhere to climb to. At all. She was... well, backed into a corner, literally. In fact, she was actually quite near to the wall of the cave, and her fur fluffed up violently. She didn't understand Comet's words very well -- I saw you commuted pretty well, and she firmly understood the connotation of catch and you in this context. But all of it was kind of fuzzy in meaning, like hearing someone speak in a third language you only kind of spoke, and Kitty only understood the threatening parts of it.

So she reacted.

Kitty reared up on her back paws and lashed out with her front claws, little pointy teeth bared. Madhukar's warning rang in her mind, that if you hit something alive it will hit back, but Kitty was far more concerned with the fact that she wanted to convince this thing not to hit her.

Round: 1/5?
Attempt: Scratch Comet!
Defense: Stand Up, Be Scary (none lmao)
Injuries: None!

Comet
Arctic Wolf
Comet didn't know what she expected to happen, but it certainly wasn't the red raccoon baring its teeth and raising its claws. What was wrong with this animal didn't it know that she gave it a mouse? She gave a confused bark when she felt the sting of its claw hitting her on the nose.

She knew that the red raccoon thingy was young, but so was she. And she had seen many other animals who were young and dangerous. Was this one of them? She wasn't sure, but she didn't want to find out. She stored up the energy in her body, and expelled it in the form of a jet of water from her mouth.

@Kitty

Round: 1/5
Attempt: Fountain at Kitty
Defense: Thick fur
Injuries: None

Kitty's scratching was greeted by a painful blast of water, although she supposed it could have been worse -- her fur was also rather thick, but the force of the spell striking her in the chest still knocked her off her feet. Kitty scrambled back up and there was murder in her eyes. The fur on her chest and down her belly (because she'd been standing up) was dripping wet now, and it made her angrier. Kitty hissed again and leapt for Comet, trying to dig claws into the wolf's shoulder like she was climbing a tree -- faux-thumbs engaged and everything.

Round: 2/5
Attempt: Cling to Comet's shoulder! Probably painfully.
Defense: also has thick fur, tbf
Injuries: Wet and bruised >:(

Comet was sure the water would have hit. It was point blank range after all, no way it could miss. But the red raccoon had thick fur just like her, and that took away the force of the water a bit. She would have to rehydrate herself soon, as that took a lot of water.

She prepared herself for a normal attack. But what came was not normal in the least. The crazy raccoon decided it would be a good idea to jump and grab on to her shoulder with her claws. What in the world was that crazy monster red raccoon doing?! Comet trusted her thick fur to do the trick, and didn't really feel much of the raccoon's teeth through her thick fur, but there were pinpricks of pain. She tried something different. Maybe making her fur wet would help? But no matter how hard she tried, no water would come out. She was too dehydrated for that.

@Kitty

Round: 2/5
Attempt: Make fur wet so raccoon will slip off
Defense: Thick fur
Injuries: Little bite on shoulder, dehydrated

RE: Raining Cats and Dogs - Kitty - Aug 25 2020

The failure of Comet's spell was untimely, because it seemed to Kitty as though she weren't even trying to fight back. The creature's claws, however, had dug her in and Comet had done nothing to dislodge her. Now to see if she could manage to climb up... a living creature with thick fur was more difficult than a tree, thank you, especially when she was kind of trying to make it hurt.

Round: 3/5
Attempt: Climb up onto Comet's back (and don't lose your grip in the process, please)
Defense: moving out of the way!
Injuries: Wet and bruised >:(

Really? She couldn't believe her spell had failed! She was too thirsty now to really do any of her spells, but this red raccoon was just so darned annoying! She tried shaking her fur to dislodge the raccoon. Like the thing dogs do. She was sure that once the raccoon fell off, they would be dead meat. Well, Comet didn't plan on killing them, she was too nice for that.

@Kitty

Round: 3/5
Attempt: Shake fur to dislodge red raccoon
Defense: Thick fur
Injuries: Small bite and dehydrated

Just when Kitty had gotten up top and was ready to dig her teeth in and make her mustelid cousins proud, the dog started to shake like she was the wet one (although Kitty supposed she technically was). It was a violent motion that would make her dizzy regardless of success, but she did not want to let go and made an attempt to dig her claws in more firmly -- thumbs and all! She was an animal built for clinging to trees, after all. She needed to make this one count.

Of course, she was foolish to think she had the strength in her tiny limbs, and was flung off of Comet violently (and a couple yards away), wrenching a claw out painfully in the process. It was going to take a few months to grow that back, certainly. The ground must be alive, she thought distantly, because it definitely just hit me. Ah, the wonders of kinetic energy -- Kitty's breath was firmly knocked out of her, and she knew this was going to hurt in the morning

Round: 4/5
Attempt: Hang on!
Defense: out of the way.
Injuries: Wet and DOUBLE bruised, dizzy, torn claw

Comet
Arctic Wolf
Comet felt the claws start to dig in harder, and was surprised that the raccoon was managing to hang on for even a few SECONDS. Those claws were strong. But her shaking movement was stronger, and she felt the claws release, except for one, and the raccoon was flung through the air. Yes! It had worked! The remaining claw on her skin must've been torn off.

She watched the red raccoon hit the ground with a thump. Just what she deserved. Comet stomped up to the red raccoon who seemed to be rather exhausted, well she herself was thirsty, but she reminded herself that she could rehydrate after the fight was over. She wasn't going to risk it now. But the raccoon seemed pretty darned defeated at the moment so she decided to do it.

@Kitty

Round: 4/5
Attempt: Drink water
Defense: Thick fur
Injuries: Small bite and small claw marks
