Inglorious Entrance - Mephisto - Sep 01 2020

Mephistopheles

He was getting restless.

Not trapped, no just... bored? He's always been content until now, but the sounds from the outside have become slowly clearer over what we would call the last few weeks, but for him have been a too large a number to count of lights and darks flashing by.

Mephistopheles wants out.

Like yesterday... so lets see if he gets out before someone shows up to catch him in all his wet, new lion glory.

With those kinds of thoughts, the darker lion that seems just a tad too large for his age starts to press at the chrysalis of jade with his shoulders, the green gem crackling along the paler parts of his gem, the dark lightning highlighting the cloud like patterns in the jade.

RE: Inglorious Entrance - Angela - Sep 01 2020

She was just wandering, out searching for things. With the village working on their house and building up their foundation, Angela wanted to help with whatever she could do. Crafting small things, intimate things that paws or teeth might not be able to do. She wanted something to show that they were all one, one village and one family. She'd already grown fairly comfortable with them - building a house together tended to do that to a group!

She wandered Polaris, with the bag that Dad had made for her slung over her shoulder, every so often stopping to pick up things that looked interesting, although most she tossed right back onto the ground. Just boring slabs of rock, broken, dirty gemstones, or half-ripped feathers. If she wanted a feather, she could just pull out one of hers. She sighed and continued walking.

The sound of cracking had her freezing suddenly. Immediately, her brain began whirling into motion - which would it be, fight or flight? Obviously flight. Okay, step 1, freeze like a deer in headlights. Step 2, immediately throw yourself into the nearest cover. And Angela did just that, quite literally lunging forward, arms outstretched, looking quite ridiculous as she did so, and throwing herself behind the nearest rock. She felt her soft elbows scuff against the hard stone ground, but she didn't care, quickly pulling in her legs so nobody say.

What was step 3? Oh no, oh no what was step 3?

She sat there for a moment, eyes wide, breathing heavily, before, ever so carefully, she stood and peeked around the rock. She saw...something there. A gemstone? Did it belong to someone? It was very big...she gulped. Maybe it was a chrysalis. Well now she couldn't leave, curiosity getting the best of her. Oh she hoped it wasn't something scary.

The jade splits gracefully- cleanly, at least, only minor dusting, and he's able to catch himself on his feet as he's dumped onto the floor from his chrysalis, the relative cold making him complain audibly as he pulls himself up.

"Mrrrrph..." is all he gets out before he starts to cough, and clears the last of the fluid from his lungs when he hears a soft thud.

Big ole ears perk up from a wet skull, and he tilts his head in the direction of the thump, in the direction of @Angela , and he makes a half attempted step before he thumps back to sitting and he starts... aggressively licking himself clean. Being wet and sticky finally got to him, and the rasp of his tongue is almost audible.

A high roll is him cleaning up quickly, like finishing a foreleg before Angela gets to him, and a low roll is him freezing with his tongue between his toe pads and staring into the middle distance.

As soon as the lion cub came tumbling out of the chrysalis, Angela immediately hid herself behind the rock again. Why was she sticking around? She was scared - she should leave! But...it was only a baby, wasn't it? Babies couldn't hurt her, babies wouldn't judge her for things. Why was she scared again? Didn't lions eat people? Not all lions - Azizos didn't eat people. To be fair, Azizos wasn't all lion. But...

Gulping, she looked out from behind the boulder again, too curious to leave. She had never been at the hatching of a new gembound before and she was seriously curious. She tilted her head, looking at the little thing and realized that it was looking in her direction. She froze...but then it started trying to lick itself clean.

She didn't approach the lion cub, just peering out from the rock, unsure of what to do. She wanted to approach, she wanted to, maybe...help it? But also she was irrationally afraid. Not...terrified or anything, just. Shy. Nervous. How was she supposed to handle this situation?

Messi manages to shake of whatever haze he was in, and continues vigorously licking at himself, more so than before.

He hadn't seen anything that bothered him per se, but the idea of continuing to be wet and gross while alone didn't appeal to him- and as far as he's concerned he's alone now, since whatever thumped wasn't coming out.

If the thump wanted to try and eat him, well... wait. That causes him pause again, and he sets his now clean paw and leg down to the stone.

What if the thump wanted to eat me?

His first clear thought and it's about being eaten, joy. But he gets to his paws, and starts to swivel his head back and forth, large ears perked and both eyes scanning, before he backs up a few steps and lets out the most terrifying sound he can-

"Mrrr... mrrrowr!" is all that's he's able to force out, no promising roar-to-be and no snarl other than his crinkling nose and sudden desire to sneeze. Repeatedly. So much so that he winds up backing hindquarters first into his chrysalis and making himself startle - lets see how funny this is based on a roll.

She continued to watch the young lion from behind her rock, wings pressed against her back so that the feathers wouldn't show, just watching him clean himself off. She remembered that, when she hatched she'd been drenched in that stuff, whatever the heck it was.

She watched as he got to her paws, sinking back a little bit further behind the rock, in case it as looking for her. It...kind of looked like it was. Or at least watching out for her. It occurred to her, then, that he might be scared. Scared of her? Then again, she was scared of him, despite him being quite tiny.

The sound that came out of his mouth at first surprised her, she flinched back, eyes wide, but then peeked out again and watched as he fell back into his chrysalis. The sight was so funny that she felt a laugh bubbling up her chest and she quickly had to slap a hand over her mouth to stifle it. Still, the smallest muffled giggle drifted out from the boulder, but she didn't flinch back this time. The fear was leaving and she was peeking out more, about half of her body now visible as she watched the lion cub, eyes sparkling with amusement. He was...kind of adorable, actually.

His manic flailing scatters some small bits of his crumbling chrysalis, but he does manage to get onto his feet gracefully and arches his spine at it, offering a few more angry swipes and a snort of derision before he turns away from it and kicks some dirt as a final dismissal.

Nose high, front paw poised mid stride, he freezes as he hears giggling and spots the thump peeking over the rock- erm.

Well it ... they have a face so they're not a thump. Messi thinks, blinking at Angela with wide eyes and a confused expression.

"What?" he mutters, taking a step closer and tilting his head the other direction, clearly confused and interested, tail and but wiggling in curiosity and he Stares in the way that only cats can.

Her small laughs died away, leaving her watching as the lion at last noticed her hiding spot and began to pace forward. She froze up as it began to approach, but forced herself to stay calm. Not quite walking out to meet him, but no longer completely hiding. No, just...curiously watching as he approached, tail waving slowly behind her.

His small questioning murmur had her tilting her own head in faint confusion. Did he think she said something? "Wh-what?" she whispered under her breath without really realizing it. She stayed still, letting him come to her as she tried to figure out what to say.

Was she supposed to introduce herself or let him introduce himself first? Wait, no, he just hatched. Maybe he didn't even know his name! She should speak! No but this was his hatching day it should be about him. Maybe she should explain things to him, tell him about where he is. But she didn't want to freak him out too much by just going and blurting out an entire speech. No, no, she had to say something, he was getting closer and closer and she was still completely silent.

"Hello," she squeaked softly, surprising herself with her own voice.

Messi has had a mostly sanguine disposition through his first few minutes of life, despite his sneezing, attempt to fight a rock and still existent disgust with his current state of being-

Still gross and icky, but they are much neater-

So he stops more than a few lengths away from the other behind the rock, and he sits down again.

The Thump That's Not a Thump had said the same word as him, so he flicks his tail happily and lets out a soft and pleased "Mrow!" in reply.

But, a new word... "He... rrowr!" pressing his tongue against his gem... fang felt weird, and so he covers up with an attempt at blending the word and his noises, maybe he could make The Not-Thump make that light noise they had earlier, that was a nice noise!

This was going okay. Angela was slowly, very slowly, starting to feel a little more comfortable. She shifted a bit, more of her body appearing from behind the boulder, revealing her wings, which were no longer pressed hard to her back but folded neatly and loosely as they usually were. He was giving her space, sitting a few feet away, which made her feel a little better about stepping out completely from her cover (but not too far - she wanted to stay close enough to throw herself behind it again if she had to).

He was making cute noises, small sounds that pulled a little smile at the corner of Angela's lips. He was really young - well of course he was, he just hatched! He was trying to talk to her, or just parrot her? She didn't know, but it was cute and it pulled another small giggle from her mouth.

"Hello!" she said again, more confidently this time. "Do you...have a name?" That was quite the sentence, wow she was being bold. Look at me, Dad! I'm out here socializing all by myself!
