feed the fire - Leon - May 04 2015

wolven!

For as much exploring as Leon had done in his very short life, it seemed he was destined to go no further than the Core. It was Rohan that kept him there, always uncertain if his friend was okay with leaving, always scared that if he ventured too far, he might never find his friend again. He knew the cave extended further than what he'd seem so far. There were Gembounds all over the place now, more than when he'd awoken, and they came from places that Leon had never seen. They looked so different from him and could do different things, and he wondered if it was because they had come from such different places. The bear wouldn't leave yet, at least not without Rohan - and it was likely that where ever Leon went, Teyouma would follow, too.

At the moment, he found himself alone. The bear sat against the wall, finding comfort in the clammy darkness. It wasn't all that dark here actually, receiving ample light from the broad opening into Polaris nearby. Luminous mosses sprouted along the wall, giving the tunnel entrance a blue-green hue. His mind was wandering, hopping from his friends to other Gembounds he had met to his attempts and failures at what he would come to understand as magic. He couldn't control the heat summoned by his paws, and he was afraid to try it again. The last two times it happened it had burned him. Yet if he didn't practice, it would keep happening. What did he want more - the uncertainty of his magic, but the comfort of not experiencing its pain now? Or mastery over it, should he risk harming himself in the process?

He huffed, unhappy and unable to decide. The bear slouched down, most of his body laying on the ground while his head was propped up against the wall, his paws resting lazily on his stomach. What was he to do?

RE: feed the fire - Isaac - May 05 2015

There were different paths to behold as the young dog studied each one with confusion. Too many paths to be taken, and his head felt dizzy trying to comprehend where each other would lead. No doubt each tunnel lead to a different place. He wanted to get going, and explore every inch of the cavern, but he was racked with indecisiveness as he glanced at the tunnels for a minute. With a deep breath, he decided to enter one of them - the moss on the side illuminating its path, and making it easier to see than the others he had peered through the maw of. He might be lichen this more than he thought.

He did not descend very far into the depths of the tunnel of blue-green when he saw something furry rest against the walls. It was certainly not a creature he was familiar with, but they appeared rather fierce compared to the dog. The bear appeared to be relaxing against the wall still as the pup cautiously approached to bypass without any harm done. His source of magic wasn't capable of producing effects to defend him if the bear were to act hostile so as he inched closer and closer, he grinned nervously.

"Yuuu. No mind me. I pass through." Isaac said as he was still getting closer, and he shuffled his paws against the floor, and eyed the moss with his pupils flicking to the side to keep an eye on the bear. He wasn't particularly a coward, but he didn't know how the cub would react so he was still rather scared. He wished he had used some magic to shroud himself in darkness, but he was quick to assume the lighting would take more than enough out of him to stamp out. Still, he wished he had found a way to be invisible so he could stealth past, and continue exploring where the tunnel would end.

For a brief moment, he neglected to think about it, ignoring either of those options in favor of simply staring across at the other wall. He watched as wet mosses twinkled against the blue glow of the crystals, and condensation dripped lazily down one of the rocks. It wasn't as humid here as in some of the other tunnels, but he supposed a rather wet draft had wormed its way through the maze of the caves and found itself here. He rather liked being in this tunnel actually. The smell was pleasant for his nose, a nice change from the musty stench of old and dirty rocks, or stagnant water, or dust. He huffed loudly, scratching slowly at his stomach.

The sound of footsteps aroused him from his gloomy thoughts. Leon blinked, glancing in their direction without actually moving his head. There, he could see another animal, small but not as small as some. Its figure denoted that it, too, was but a child. Leon continued to watch him, and as he excused himself to walk past Leon, he frowned and stuck out his lower lip with a complainy whine. The bear huffed unhappily again, nearly content to let the pup pass him by and go on his way. Oh, but Leon wouldn't be satisfied if he just let another Gembound cross his path without getting to know them and trying to make friends. After a while, Leon straightened up and rolled onto his stomach, hobbling after the pup. "Hey, wait!" Leon came up behind him, long claws clicking furiously against the ground. "I'm so bored, will you play with me?"

Maybe the dog would humor him, maybe he'd even make him feel better! And maybe... maybe he could give him the confidence to try his fire magic again.

His breathing became heavier as he still inched with his side facing the bear cub still lounged against the wall. The pup felt inclined to actually interact with the other gembound, but he was still at a loss of words with his speech still primitive anyway. He glanced at the bear one last time before he almost attempted to flee, but the bear spoke before his legs were prepared to bunch up and spring.

There was a shadow that loomed, but it was not his gem sensing the photons disabling itself. With a loud bark of surprise, he spun around to meet the bear with wide eyes. "No hurt!" he suggested. The creature had long claws that tapped against the ground as he cast a downward glance towards his paws before looking up. The bear spoke again as he mentioned a word that caused a pair of amber eyes to gleam excitedly. "Play?" The domesticated dog bred for social interaction bent forward as his front legs stretched in front of him in a playful position. Already his fear dissipated as he wagged his tail and barked plentiful sounds. Nyx wasn't here to boss him and Fisher around about barking!

Unbeknownst to Leon, his sudden decision to run after the puppy had startled the other into automatically assuming he was out for blood. When the dog turned around and asked the bear not to hurt him, Leon skidded to a halt and cocked his head. Why would he ever want to hurt somebody else? He furrowed his brow and glanced aside, thinking on the question. Would he? Would he truly? ...No. He didn't like to see others upset. He liked to see them happy. He didn't like pain, so why would anybody else?

After a couple seconds of thought, he looked back to the puppy and shook his head. "Obviously! I only want to play!" Leon assured him and scoffed. The bear grinned, and after the puppy questioned the idea of "play", he lowered his front half, wagged his tail and barked. Leon interpreted this as an invitation to play, so the bear did what any playful young child would do. "Yeah!" He beamed and ran at the puppy, but before making any contact, he stopped again and ascended to his hind paws. His front paws hung out in front of him, expecting the puppy to do the same. For a bear, the concept of play involved wrestling - he was unaware that canines were a little less dexterous than his own kind, however.

The bear that approached him had skidded to a halt, and the breathing did not increase tenfolds from the approach. There was an expression that he could not read entirely on the other gembound's face as the pup blinked slowly, and tilted his head. He nearly expected something to occur, but anything that could be happening now was all mental from his guessing. His own words were inside his head instead of exposing it to those in hearing range. It must've been the same for the one who had only said a few words too.

The assurance from the bear had an impact on him, but Isaac couldn't help but briefly study the furry predator to see if it were true. After that moment of inspection, he decided that there wasn't any intentional plan to be harmed so he relaxed, and his heart beat slowed down. He was still ecstatic over the thought of play as he remained in his current position, and his tail wagged hard enough that his rump in the air wiggled. "Play!" he agreed. He was pleased to know the invitation was taken although he did not know how a non-canine creature would play.

If he still had questions about it, the answer would reveal itself now. The bear briefly made his way to the pup on four legs before stopping to stand on his hind legs. The pup's eyes enlarged in awe as he decided to do the same thing. He didn't understand what was trying to be conveyed due to the circumstances of being a different species, but mimicking was one of the things he constantly did since his birth.

His front feet pushed themselves upwards as he flung his upper body backwards on wobbly hind legs. It wasn't too easy to deal with the gem embedded in his ankle where it pressed down on the top of his foot. It wasn't a comfortable feeling, but it wasn't enough to bug him immensely. His hind legs kept finding a new spot to stand as he tried to balance himself. A few times he was cutting it close with his front paws nearly descending to hold onto the ground, but he was determined to steady himself. He wasn't sure if he could hold it for a long period of time before he had to go back on fours again.

Post-Roll:

Success! His body stopped swaying enough that he could balance himself for a second longer. His front legs were bent, but they stretched out in front of him. He had to continuously move his back feet so he almost looked like he was doing a canine version of a dance. That moment passed all too soon before he fell forward onto four feet again. At least he did not fall if he wasn't fortunate enough to stand upwards like the bear did. "Isaac tried." he mumbled, defeated.

RE: feed the fire - Leon - May 07 2015

The puppy's idea of play was foreign to Leon, almost alien, watching him drop his chest down and wiggle his rump in the air. But then again, most of the creatures he encountered seem to have one thing in common and that was a really, really long tail. Much longer than his. They could move it and sway it and maybe the whole rump-wiggling thing had to do with that. Leon didn't care though, as long as he was still up for playing - and he was, apparently, as demonstrated by the dog's sudden attempt to stand on his own hind legs as well. Leon grinned and rumbled with encouragement. "Yeah! Just like that!" He said and stepped forward, planning on grappling with the puppy as he would another cub.

Only, the dog didn't seem able to maintain balance. He continued to move back and forward and to the sides, trying to keep himself aloft. He managed to stand up for a good few seconds, even without wobbling before falling back down to his paws. Leon giggled and thumped down onto all fours too. "You did good!" He added, reaching up with one of his front paws to try and pat the dog on the head. Then, Leon mimicked his new friend and dropped his front half to the ground. With his fore-legs bent beneath him, he stuck his butt up in the air and wiggled it. His stubby little tail, too, wiggled behind him with excitement.

But Leon had had enough of the whole mimicry thing. He wanted to play. The bear lunged forward again, trying to land his paws on the dog's shoulders; at which point, if successful, he was going to try and wrestle him down to the ground.

RE: feed the fire - Isaac - May 08 2015

It wasn't easy trying to match the whole standing on his hind legs, but the pup seemed to be on the right track. There was obviously some anatomical differences between the two gembounds, but he remained unaware of it. Isaac was left disappointed by his fleeting attempt at mimicking his play friend, but his spirits were uplifted by the sound of praise. Knowing his attempt did not go unnoticed, his large ears perked up and his smile ended with his jaw open and tongue lolled. "Isaac did good!" he said proudly, unaware of the bear's next actions.

Tilting his chin upwards, he watched his bear friend get on his hind legs with ease, and he felt the approval through the pat on the head. He never experienced the feeling, but something about being patted on the head added to his good mood. It was a nice feeling indeed. He continued to watch the bear as the other decided to copy the original stance he was in due to the excitement of playtime. It would have been comical if the dog was more familiar with seeing his kind do the same, but it seemed all the same with his limited view on things. It was still a good attempt, and even he was nodding with approval. "Yuuu did good." he said. He was still quite fond of his first pronunciation of the first word he had heard from Nyx herself.

There was a brief wondering of how the bear used a stubby little tail to express himself before he was caught off-guard by the foreign version of playtime through the bear's perspective. Before he had a chance to react with any type of response, the bear aimed to put his paws somewhere on the dog's body. He was standing on four legs at the time, but he wouldn't for long! His friend was bearly successful with landing those large paws on his shoulders before the stubby legs crumpled from the weight. By the time Isaac could fully react, he was already being wrestled to the ground with a confused whine. "I thought play meant chasing. Is play different for friend?" It wasn't easy trying to make sense of it, but he thought playtime meant chasing, play growls, and lunging. It didn't occur to him right away that animals had different visions of fun.

GROANS LOUDLY ok also im assuming you had isaac basically crumple to the ground but if thats not the case, let me know and i can fix it :P

It hadn't taken much for Leon to land his big paws upon the dog's shoulders, and even less so for him to wrestle the canine down to the ground. In fact, it was a little disappointing just how easy it had been at all. Once the two of them were pretty much on the ground, the bear giggled and flopped over onto his side, raising his paws to bat gently at the puppy's face. "Wha?" He blinked, confused at what the dog had meant. Leon thought play was the same thing for everyone?

The bear rolled away, first on his back and then onto his stomach where he propped himself up onto all four paws, then stood on his hind legs to look back over at Isaac. "Play's play! Play's whatever wanna do. That's how I play. How do you play? Can you show me?" He asked enthusiastically and dropped back onto his four paws, galloping back over to Isaac.

RE: feed the fire - Isaac - May 14 2015

The tumble down was quick as the pup found himself sprawled on the ground with his front legs curled up to his chest, and his hind legs just stood up in the air; the gem glinted as the dim light passed it briefly. The curled up paws outstretched now as he attempted to intercept the batting instinctively. There was no aggressive behavior from either of them as Isaac grinned, and giggled back.

(Post-Roll):
The bear's paws manage to make contact with Isaac's face, but the furry hands did not harm him as he faithfully believed. The layer of fur had a different texture compared to the one he had, but it was still cozy as his own paws prodded the larger ones.

The bear's expression shifted to one of inquiry until he remembered his own question about play. When Leon answered him, he was left confused briefly before the concept processed through his brain. "Oh! Play's play." So it was different for everyone, but it was still fun and, well, playful for everyone involved. That was how he understood it. The spotlight went on him now, and the pup seemed to delight in it. "Chase!" he said as he poked the bear with a paw, "Um, was chase tag...? No, not tag. Close to tag..." He was left to mumble amongst himself as he tried to figure out what the word meant, or how to best describe it to his playmate. He knew some of it meant a play bow, and also running around while being chased with obstacles to hide with. The struggle was real as his head wanted to burst into flames from thinking so hard about the description of his ancestors' instincts.

OOC: I wasn't super clear about it, but that's fine! Yeah, he would most likely crumple to the ground because he's not strong enough to hold up a bear cub's weight!

bear with me as i make slow replies LOl
