GET OFF MY LAWN - Arquia - Jan 14 2021

Arquia couldn't help but feel annoyed by the meadow deer in the fields. They were too close to her home for her to feel comfortable about them existing. Hence, it was time to clear them off. She stomped off in the direction of the herd, even though she had wings that would get her there much faster. Flying was not something she liked to do. The dragon walked right over to the cluster of meadow deer and roared a challenge.

Matthieu was not the only beast with an eye on the buffallo.

The faerie knew painfully well of the meadow deer. From his hidden den in the tree-tunnel he could see them, grazing away at the grass with shining horns. He wanted those horns. And those furs, and those hooves, and those eyes. The last faerie to try and kill a deer was... greatly reprimanded-- 'The queen chased from the palace, the palace, the palace--' but after a few days of careful observation they concluded this herd didn't belong to anyone. Perfect for hunting.

The bee-boy stalked across the grasses, crouched low to the ground, wings laid tightly across his sides. They didn't bother disguising as a meadow deer-- they just grew to full size not too long ago, and they felt like showing pride in their form. One step. Another. Bee's eyes raked the herd. 'That one. Over there. It's already injured, we can finish it off easily.' Quiet, quiet steps. Stealth was their specialty. Quiet, quiet--

A roar rippled across the plains. Matthieu's humanoid head shot up, corkscrewing around as they tried to identify the source. 'Reptilian, winged. Roaring very loudly. Not too intelligent, from the looks of it,' he mulled. Oh, this certainly put a stop to their plans. How can they sneak up, if this dragon's gonna scare them all away anyways?

One plan left to try. With a brace of their mismatched legs and a sharp, backwards look towards Arquia, the faerie pushed off and sped towards the meatiest buck.

The meadow deer were already wheeling at the dragon's approach, charging in a plume of dust to form their defensive ring. Massive heads and horns were outward, the two calves at the center of the group.

The herd was half-lost in the billowing dust, which began to settle a moment later; the scent of dirty fur and the beasts' aggravated lowing filled the air.

One bull broke the line as Matthieu made the mistake of rushing them, charging with smashing hooves and startling speed as the fairy-creature drew close to the herd. Some seven feet tall at the shoulder, weighing at least a ton, this animal's trample could be deadly from a single charge.

Luckily for the fairy, if they did not avoid this strike, it would be only glancing: a goring with a horn, and not crushed and trampled bones.

The rest milled closer, but kept to their defensive ring, their lowing raising into a bellowing of distress and aggression at the dragon's approach.

Arquia caught the sight of Matthieu from the corner of her eye. What in the WORLD was that thing? It looked like two animals smushed into one. She watched as the weird animal charged straight towards the herd, and as a large meadow deer came out to meet it. That was one less thing she had to deal with. Focusing her attention on one of the smaller defenders of the herd, she attempted to fly up and come down to aim a hit at its spine.

They definetely weren't doing that again.

Bee's hundred eyes caught the massive charging buck in full, 3D detail. It's thundering hooves. It's gigantic horns. Far larger and more threatening than it seemed from a distance. But they did not scream, or cry, or shout. Boy simply hugged her abdomen close and ordered inaudible instructions at his sister, his other brain, as their legs skidded across the grass, not enough traction to escape the danger zone--

Damage!

An ivory antler made contact with the ornate intersection of their bodies, the rest of the prongs coming dangerously close to their bodies. No screams, no cries, no shouts. Some dark blood leaked out, and a few chips of chitin, but thankfully the wound was not as bad as it could've been. With the added force they flew back, eventually gaining their footing some ways away from the herd. Ow.

Curses in languages not yet discovered ripped through their minds as they crouched, panting, in the grass. 'May the dung deer have their firstborns taken away, may endless disease and misery fall upon them--' Eventually they got back up again, put some pressure on the wound and reaccessed their situation. The buffalo had arranged into a close circle half-obscured by upturned dust, antlers poking out. The treeline was too far away, and the ceiling was too high up and obscured by fog to do anything with that. They briefly considered teaming up with the dragon, but a quick glance towards her failing once more to attack banished those thoughts. They shall work alone.

One more scurry back, away from the danger zone, and Matthieu picked a stray branch from the ground and started sharpening it with their incisors. Planning their next move. A pair of eyes always on Arquia.

The many eyes saw her coming, and in the split second she dove, the smallest--the target--sharply turned. The long, lethally-pointed rhino-like nose horn was what came thrusting up to meet the dragon's dive, instead of unprotected spine--with the force of a rearing Meadow Deer and the muscle of its entire neck shoving hard behind it.

It was a strike that, with their combined momentum, could easily be deadly--a disemboweling, or worse--if it were not dodged--and was liable to leave at least a jagged scratch, even if the worst were avoided.

Arquia was met with a horn instead of a spine, and it gored into her belly, leaving a deep scratch on her side. She beat her wings to fly into the air and landed a distance away, about twenty feet from the meadow deer. She tried to stop the bleeding with a paw, but the blood kept flowing out. At least she wasn't disembowled. That would have been bad. Arquia let out a roar, and pondered whether she should continue to try and attack the meadow deer. Even the smallest seemed dangerous.

Poor, poor Arquia.

Matthieu finished his crude sharpening of a spear just as he heard a pained roar. Boy shot up-- there, the little dragonet managed to get herself delightfully gored and was now spilling her life juices onto the waving grass. They stilled. Nothing but the wind, the herd's brays, and the reptile's pained breathing.

The Green Dragon attacked the smallest prey-- now she lays, in a puddle of her own self.

'These deer are dangerous, not because of their master but because of their own strength.'

That was the message they got. Do not attempt further attack.

Of course... maybe they didn't need deer hide, after all.

The faerie marched through the grasses towards Arquia, no longer trying to conceal himself with the same fervor. Completely emotionless. They readied their spear in his grip.

Closer.

Closer.

Closer.

They sprinted forth, improvised weapon raised high, ready to strike at the heart of the wound and rip those scales away. Oh, this would make such a fine blanket...!

And they failed.

Attempt: TAKE HER SKIN LIKE THE TERRIFYING SCAVENGER YOU ARE uwu

The herd hesitated. Twenty feet was not far off--the meadow deer themselves were some ten or more feet long--but the dragon looked wounded, and they could smell blood.

For a moment there was hesitation, and Arquia's life likely hung in the balance: on a razor's edge, the herd milled and snorted, eyeing the predator. Did they charge her? Or charge Matthieu? Bluff-charge, and hope to drive both off?

In the end, the lead cow turned, huffing, the bull backing away and tossing his horns threateningly at the predators. The herd, unless pursued, would slowly move away--still mostly in formation, but preferring retreat to further potential injury.

RE: GET OFF MY LAWN - Arquia - Jan 20 2021

Arquia watched as the herd of meadow deer retreated. Those stupid things were more effort than they were worth anyway. It wouldn't be worth it to continue to pursue, especially with a wound like this. But there was something else... oh yeah! That weird bee thing. What was up with-- whoa! She hadn't noticed Mattieu walking up to her, even though he wasn't even trying to conceal himself. But luckily, the spear stabbed the ground right next to her belly. A miss.

Arquia turned her head towards the weird bee thing, and rose up onto her feet. Her eyes narrowed into slits. So, this weird thing was trying to attack her, huh? This had never actually happened to her before now that she thought about it. No one tried to attack a dragon. But here was a challenger. And she would prove to herself that she was strong enough to defend herself. Prove it to Kethri too. Matthieu was going to pay for this.

She charged forward, trying to ignore the pain in her side. Arquia reached out a claw to bruise the bee's head, only to miss.

@Matthieu
