Vanyel stretched one arm and let it fall, wrapping it around Barnabus in a smooth gesture that allowed the both of them to press right up against each other. You know, because it was cold.

”Say more of those pretty names,” he said softly, leaning into the other's neck, ”I really like them, makes me feel special.”

The fish was given, pressed to Barnabus' mouth and let to fall through before another piece was lifted and pressed into waiting jaws. He felt no fear of the other's teeth, in fact he felt rather safe, like Barnabus would protect him.

Maybe he was drunk on love as he pressed his face into the other's neck and let his eyes flutter shut, or as he curled his arm around the other and found his hand to hold gently, his tail flicking gently like a cat's. Maybe he'd fallen so far that not even the tallest ladders could help him climb back up.
