Deep Dark's wings spread out to her sides as she floated at the top of the murky waters, like a duck biding its time. She'd come out this way to figure out the waterways and find a different environment to teach Soh'ling, to let them both experience different waters and how to manage.
She admittedly didn't particularly enjoy the surface. She missed the pressure of the Black City, of the dark and comfort in silence. It was loud here, buzzing and clicking and sounds from all forms of insects living in the swamp. There was enough of a lesson there- tune out things you don't need to pay attention to. Still, DD's eyes tracked the nearest bug, and she snapped out at it and swallowed the speck of life like it was nothing. Faint purple sparks flew along her neck as she barely shook her head. Eh. Bugs.
Drifting along with idle waves of her tail, DD cast her angler's rod out in front of her like a ship's foglight in the mist. "The dark here... is not split easily." Her head turned as she searched for Soh'ling, looking to lay her eyes on her companion. "Feel the motion of the water. It is... stale. Keep dim, and you may follow the current of.. your prey."
The beast's head raised as she shut her eyes, nostrils and gills flaring as she scented the air. "Feel... for vectors. Your magic. It is... illness, and would serve well here. If you would wish to practice it, that is." She drew back as she looked down, casting her gaze across the surface of the algae-laden water. "We may also... learn other things. How to use the dark. The fog. It may prove... useful, if you must be here for an important purpose." Her jaw worked in place as the gills along her neck tightened, her eyes narrowing into a glare. She could cast her lighting into the water now, have it seek out the fish and create something for Soh'ling's diseases to fester in.
If that's what her protege wished, of course. Perhaps they could simply enjoy their time in a new area. Maybe they could try some new foods, eat some bugs, drown some terrestrial lessers. Normal things.
