It was the closest thing to a lush field that Orion had. A patchwork of moss covering a crumbled courtyard of, interrupted only by a daring tuft of of grass or a particularly hardy wildflower. And in the center, a round hump of dark blue-purple-black gemstone. It looked like the abyss of the ocean, or perhaps deep space. It had started growing from underneath the moss, unceremoniously uprooting it. Some of the moss had begun to grow on the chrysalis itself, but unfortunately for the moss, something stirred within.

It was lying on it's side with it's gangly limbs all tangled together. There wasn't enough room to stand- or really move at all. It was their own suffocating little patch of the universe. Both of theirs. Because despite being a single calf in a single chrysalis, they weren't alone. But neither of them realized that, yet.

Competing signals buzzed down the same nerve pathways, causing limbs to jerk and twitch and thrash against the encroaching crystalline walls. It may have been what both of them were trying to do, but the sensation of not being in control- not entirely- scared them both. The gemstone shattered, letting bountiful light reach both of their eyes, and they saw.

That they weren't alone.

One head, the leftmost head, bleated in alarm and stretched as far away from the other head as possible, eyes darting too and throe. The rightmost head let out a huff of annoyance, like the other was a pesky fly and not a permanent 'roommate.' They pointedly ignored the leftmost head, sniffing at a patch of wildflowers instead. Neither tried to get up- moving before had been such a disaster- so they remained in a semi-collapsed heap among the crystalline wreckage.

“Oh wow!” A squeaky voice announced the presence of a tiny alligator. “I didn’t know horses could have two heads!” Or any critter for that matter, but Lior knew horses and this was definitely a horse.

Then a thought occurred to them. “Wait, are you a horse with two heads or two horses with one body?” They inquired, bright curiosity shining in their pale yellow eyes. They seemed to expect an answer, despite the other’s newly emerged state.

Perhaps Lior had forgotten what it was like, emerging, despite it not being so long ago for the little alligator. Or maybe Lior had popped out of chrysalis for the first time chattering away already and expected it of others. Both seemed equally possible.

Then Lior took note of the other's/others' collapsed state for the first time. "Uh, are you... two... okay there?" They paused in the middle of the sentence, still not sure if they were addressing one horse or two.
