It was a good thing that Teyouma didn't grab the bird. Aside from the toxic quality of Bevy's feathers (which most assuredly would leave him feeling quite awful), the monkey was in such a manic state that he could've easily crushed the poor thing in his hands. But he didn't get the chance, thanks to Fortune. Her voice was small but it cut sharply through the air, echoing around them as if igniting a chorus of like-minded individuals; it was enough to stop Teyouma in his tracks, slack-jawed and wide-eyed as he stared at the deer thing.

Her next words went in one ear and out the other, and it took a few seconds for them to register; but when they did, Teyouma's arms criss-crossed over his chest again and he sulked. "Bird take Teyouma's pretties!" He mumbled, as if by admitting this fact, his actions could be justified. He sank back again, propped up for a second on his tail like a tripod, and then lightly plopped on to the cave floor with his rear end. His tail curled around his waist, and he began to play with the tip in order to comfort himself. "B-but fine, take all'a Teyouma's pretties. Mean bird. Mean thing." He hissed the last word towards Fortune, and then with a 'harumph' he cast a glare across the scattered remnants of his collection.

The ground rattled as the tall animal came to Bevy's defense, stomping loudly and snorting, demanding the angry monster leave her alone. The poor bird's feathers were all messed up in her frantic scramble to escape getting hurt or worse by those big meaty paws. Afraid, the small bird kept low to the ground, hoping she would escape notice finally. Although the earth stopped shaking, the little chick had taken up quivering in place as if her whole world was a never-ending earthquake.

As the monkey started to reveal that Bevy was in the wrong, her tiny bird chest tensed, and she felt like the life was being squeezed out of her. She didn't mean, she hadn't meant to... Peering out from behind of her protective, giant guardian deer, she watched the strange creature plop down, tail curling around its plump baby belly. It told her to take the pretties.

She knew she should return it, but a small urge tingled in her talons. She wanted to keep the shiny gem, even though she knew it wasn't that important. It was just a rock, nothing special. She could always get another one. Still, she tucked it under her wing, and holding it there as best as she could, and the pitohui chick hopped out from hiding and got as close as she dared to the strange, translucence creature.

"I-I'm sorry... You sure I can has?" She asked softly, her voice quivering. Those were her first words, the first form of speech she had managed. "Thank you, is wonderful thing... I love, will take care of! Promise! Forever." How long was forever? Bevy wasn't sure, but it felt like a long time. As long as she could imagine, which was as long as she wanted to keep and protect the little gem.

The doe furrowed her bros as the monkey and bird seemingly sorted things out, albiet with some attitude from the angry monkey child. Fortune lifted her head as the bird tottered out from under her legs, and proclaimed she'd take good care of the monkey's gemstone, and thanked him for letting her have it- though Fortune wondered if the little hairy thing had really relinquished it. He didn't seem to be all that happy about it.

"Birdy take care of pretty, see?" She murmured, offering a hesitant smile of sorts. "Baby get other pretty, make better?" The doe didn't wait for an answer, as she looked around the cave to try and spot some shiny gems that she could harvest for the spoiled thing. Blue eyes found an equally dark blue gemstone deposit just on the edge of a narrow passage, and so she trotted over towards it.

With tiny hooves, she started to kick and scoop at the glimmering gemstone, in hopes of breaking off a decent sized chunk...

(Roll Edit)

...and to her delight, after a few good, hard stomps, a fair sized few chunks came flying off and scattered around her hooves. She grinned with a squeak, then bent her head to scoop a few between her tiny teeth. She carried three over to the monkey, and placed all three chunks on the ground before him.

"There. New pretties for baby. Nice?"

He wasn't happy about this, but he wasn't eager to fight the bird and the bird's protector any more than he already had. With a pout to his lip and a roll of his dark eyes, Teyouma gave a small shrug of apparent indifference when Fortune spoke again; then, when she moved over to one of the massive crystals which glowed nearby, the sound of her hooves cracking the gem's surface made the monkey's eyes go wide. He hobbled towards her - passing the bird a small, somewhat annoyed look - and then Teyouma's attention was fully taken in by the shards of pretty rock that littered the floor. He hadn't considered that the glowing stones could be broken, or that he could potentially mine them for their pretty bits and pieces. As soon as Fortune had caused enough of a mess, Teyouma was diving in and sweeping piles of gem towards himself. He paused when she gathered some of the stones, watching her warily, and then made hasty grabs as she deposited the rocks near his new pile.

"These pretties! Very pretties! All my pretties!" The monkey chortled, evidently pleased by the turn of events. It was as if the entire freak-out towards Bevy had not even happened. He pointedly ignored the bird now, focusing instead on his precious little rocks. A few he held up in the dim light, scrutinizing them as best he could, like an old miser inspecting a prized jewel, and then began to sort through the shards. Bigger pieces were piled together, while the smallest of the shards were separated - divided, really, in to 'round', 'jagged', and 'tiny' sub-groups. "Tey'ma has the pretty! Tey'ma has the pretty!" The monkey chimed, hopping from one foot to the next as he lumbered about, making each pile bigger as he sorted through the mess. There was no word of thanks to Fortune, of course, as the baby Gembound was too self-absorbed to ever consider such a thing; but he was thoroughly distracted, giving both the deer and the bird a chance to escape the situation and his accompanying mania.

The shiny was all hers. Bevy watched as the tall one calmly offered to get the monster more pretty things, and then went off to one of the crystals. Her eyes sparkled as she watched the sharp rock-feet smash the deep blue structure into pieces, and then the monkey gleefully collect them up. The small red bird didn't dare move, in case attention was brought to her again, but as Teyouma started to put the shards into groups.

Her feathers itched with an instinct to get away while she could, but Bevy felt drawn to the deer. She wanted to thank the fawn, because she had... Well, she had basically saved little chick. She felt like she owed something to the long legged animal, but.. What could she do? Fetching the icy blue gem from under her wing since it kept trying to slip out and it was simply easier to hold in her beak, the bird hopped over carefully to the deer and stared up her, eyes wide.

"Mm!" She meeped through her full beak, hoping to draw the attention of the doe but not the monkey. "Mnk-coo...?" Her ebony feathered face tilted entirely to one side, her wings twitching with the urge to try and fly even if it was still impossible for the young bird.
