The hunk of diamond was safely disguised at the very base of the spire, the blue light flooding over it as if it were a piece of the spire itself. Of course, however, pieces of the spire didn't start abruptly moving, did they? The hunk of seemingly raw diamond began thrashing violently as what ever inside decided that they wanted to leave.

Nothing happened for the creature trapped inside the rock, however. The cluster of diamond hit the other rocks around it - including the spire - but nothing more than a slight hairline crack appeared in the surface of the chrysalis.

And then it stopped, the creature inside too tired to continue on with it's efforts to free itself.

Roughly fifteen minutes passed before the chrysalis began shaking again as the creature inside began trying to break free once again - the diamond continuing to crash and splinter against the rock and the spire - seemingly causing more damage to the grey rocks around it rather than actually causing damage to itself.

The tightly-packed diamond finally cracked open, and with it, a pup. They gasped for the cold air and they spluttered before they finally got up onto their paws, shaking dry their soaking fur before they slowly began to pad away from the spire.

They paused, abruptly, perhaps only realising the existence of the giant blue rock behind him. He jerked and he sat down on his haunches, staring at it as if it were an old friend, and let out a single bark.

Louis snuffled through the rubble of Polaris, stopping at seemingly ever crystal, oddly-shaped rock and mushroom. A single, almost wholly circular stone had been collected and placed between his shoulderblades, encircled by the sapphire spires that twisted out of his back, and the black puppy looked quite proud of the find, yipping at every noise and grinning at every new find.

At the sound of a woof, he stilled, ears pitching forward. It didn't sound like White, and she didn't bark much anyways - her bark was more of a bark-chirp-squeak-screech, Louis thought, cataloguing the difference away. Still, he was nothing if not an intrepid explorer, and trotted off towards the sound, an absolutely miniscule ball of black fluff on stilts.

It took him a while to pinpoint the sound, but once he did, he yapped in the general direction of the puppy sitting at the base of the Spire, bathed in its blue glow. "Hey hey! Are you new? You look new!" The schipperke darted forward the last few feet, completely invading the newborn dog's personal space to peer at his face and then circle around him, snuffling at wet fluff, sneezing at the smell. "How cool! I've never seen a newborn before. You're already so big! I bet you're gonna get real tall and strong, mhm," Louis concluded, nodding to himself wisely before continuing his inspection.

Another minute of sniffing and snuffling, and the black pup plopped down in front of the larger dog unceremoniously, grinning, tongue lolling out happily. "I'm Louis, but my friends call me Blue! What's your name, huh? I bet it's real neat. Ooh! Here!" A bounce, and the round stone hopped from his shoulders to his snoot, rolling down to fall to the floor, stopping at the other Gembound's feet. "There! Now we're officially friends, 'cause you got a treasure, and I get ta hang out with you, yeah!"

I'm sure it made perfect sense in his own rabbit-paced mind.

The 'puppy' was indeed quite big - no doubt already towering over Louis. He could have already been a full foot at the shoulder. His ear twitched ever so slightly at the sound of the other pup's bark, barely turning their head to see the black pupper bouncing around.

He was silent, listening to the first question and barely managing to nod their head before the next one came in. He seemed to consider for a moment. "I am new," he said carefully, as if still revising the answer over his head. He didn't sound like a puppy - he sounded much older.

He looked over Blue and assumed that he got that name from the protruding spikes on his shoulders. He seemed to think for a moment. What was notable about him? He didn't look all that different from Blue, after all. "I don't have a name," he decided on.

He leaned down a little to sniff the round stone before he looked back up at Louis. It didn't make much sense to him, but regardless. "Very well," he rumbled gently and picked up the rock in his mouth. His next words were muffled. "What shall we do?"

The pup practically vibrated in place when the larger dog accepted his gift, beaming and almost forgetting to respond to their words. "You don't have a name? Well, White named me Blue," he offered, peering up at the hound. "But you're all sortsa colors! Brown and black and white fur and gold eyes... ooh! Gold is a pretty name. Or maybe you need to find your name, like on an adventure!" Louis' head cocked to one side, ruminating.

"We could go exploring and find your name! I've been looking for cool rocks and sticks and shiny things, and maybe for White if she's around! Oh, oh, and she was telling me about these weird things called a mom and a dad. Maybe we have those too! We could find your name and our moms and dads," he offered with a yip, grinning from ear to ear, needlepoint teeth glistening.

The dog spun in place, batting at tiny rocks dotting the floor. "And cool stuff, of course, 'cause I gotta find something really neat for White! And for more friends! I could find something gold or white or brown or black for you to match, but it's hard to find white stuff..."
