The cow couldn't help but cringe as he watched the fox child gobble down the rat. He supposed that was one reason why Hasira hated carnivores, but honestly Caravaggio just attributed it to his high disdain for gross things, and that was definitely gross. In fact watching it made him start to feel uncomfortable, sick even, until the child had finally stopped with a demanding question. The cow glanced at the Eve, then back at him. "Well I don't know what you are!" He harumphed, two seconds from scolding the child for asking such a stupid question, before he tested out his name and Caravaggio blinked dumbly at him. "Yeah. Thats my name. You're obviously not an Eve, and you're not a Caravaggio. So what are you, huh?" The boy shoved his nose obnoxiously at the fox, quirking a brow.

Appearing not to notice the distain of the big creature standing over him, the hatchling could feel the fur sticking around his mouth so he lapped at it with his small pink tongue. The other didn't seem impressed, and answered his questions with... Well, nothing. He wondered if no-one knew what he was, if he was some kind of new force in this world or if he was just nothing. "I dunno... Either..." He muttered, looking shamefully down at the ground; though perhaps he just didn't like that tone of voice.

He shrank away as the cow shoved their nose at him, a struggle to understand in his eyes. He hadn't known what a name was, but now that he thought about it he knew what the word meant. "everyone has a name except me..." he mourned. "I dunno, I dunno what I am! Where can I get a name too? Can you help me find one?"

Caravaggio quirked a brow, and nothing stirred in that cool heart of his, no sympathy, no small regret for having been so harsh towards the freshly emerged fox after he expressed the shame of not knowing what he was. Well, he should know what he was! Everybody knew what they were. Didn't they? Or there was someone to tell them... Wait. Was he supposed to be the one to tell him? No way! The bird found him first, that was totally her job! Caravaggio had no responsibility nor obligation to anyone! ...Except maybe White! But that was different. He wasn't going around telling her what she should and shouldn't be, or what she was. He snorted and shook the thoughts away, narrowing his violet eyes at the fox.

"Alright. I can help you find a name. But I warn you, my names are absolutely perfect all the time, so its either all or nothing. No compromise." The cow tutted, scuffing his hoof against the ground as he spoke. The fox would have to take what he was given, or he would have to leave this encounter nameless, unless he somehow thought of a name for himself. But Caravaggio was pretty certain that he could think of an equally good name, maybe even a better one than he would've come up with in the first place, maybe... the best name in the world! And wouldn't White be so proud of him to hear that he showed compassion (or tried) to another Gembound? That he was making friends?! ...That was grounds for making friends, right? "So what do you say... buddy?" The cow said slyly.

"Speech" @Caravaggio

Long pause, during which the fox cub looked up at the big creature standing above him and didn't move for a while. A few more moments passed and the little fox began to explore the small area of ground around him, patting at the soft moss with each of his forepaws and marveled at how different it felt, apparently completely forgetting about his momentary shame.

"Oh, oh! Yay!" he squeaked upon realizing what Caravaggio was implying. "Perfect is good! Perfect is the best, right? So my name will be the best! I can't wait!" He didn't quite know what a compromise was, and the little one wasn't expecting to want to change it anyway. In fact he didn't even consider it. He just wanted a name, and he thoroughly believed that his name was going to be perfect, the best name out there. "I say yes! I say it's gonna be amazing! Th-thankoo, Cara-Caravaggio! Is that my-... Oh! Y-you're my buddy too!" The young one chased his tail in a small circle before sitting down and staring expectantly, happily, excitedly, at Caravaggio with his tongue lolling out.

"Buddy is a terrible name," the crow suddenly said. She had seemingly taken the time to daydream; sitting somewhere nearby with inky black feathers fluffed up. Her gaze had now turned to the two younger gembounds, seemingly only deciding to listen in on the last few words shared. "My son has the best name. Because I'm good with names."

She had decided not to mention White - it wasn't her who named the hybrid anyway. And it was a terrible (though she had to admit it was accurate) name. The crow stood up, feathers flattening, as she inspected the fox. "You look like a, uh... a George," the bird croaked.

She nodded to herself and settled back down, seemingly content with her efforts.

He cast a pointed look at the bird as she criticized his nickname and then scoffed. "That wasn't the name I was suggesting." The cow leered at her, and then rolled his eyes again as she boasted about the name of her son. Her son. Wait. That would mean she had children. Did she have more than one children? Did she also have a daughter? Or just a son? Had White ever said anything about having a brother? That was what they were called, right? He found himself stumbling over his thoughts, momentarily distracted until the fox spoke again, declaring them buddies, and the cow presented a smug smile. "Yes. We are buddies." He said crisply and giving the crow another sharp look, placing emphasis on the word - it meant friends. Not a stupid name.

"George?! Ech..." He made a face and looked back at the fox, tempted to disparage her suggestion, but the reminder of making friends had him hesitating and keeping silent. He tried to imagine the fox having the name George, he really did, but it just wasn't clicking. "What about... Raphael, hmm? Or... Ah, I got it! The perfect name! Rembrandt!" He beamed proudly, rolling the names around on his tongue. Lovely names! They had such a perfect resonance to them, they were so, so... elegant! He'd like them, wouldn't he?

"Speech" @Eve @Caravaggio

The cub turned a little abruptly as Eve once more raised her voice, and he tipped his head, feeling embarrassed that he'd changed his mind about Caravaggio's words, only to puff out his chest when he realized that, actually, he'd got it right. "He does?" the little fox asked the crow. "What is it? What makes it the best name?" He wanted to know what made it better than all the other names, because he wanted a better one.

Buddies sounded good. the young one was glad they were buddies now.

"Ge-ooor-ge, Geo-rge..." 'George' tested it out on his tongue. Then he looked up at Caravaggio, paying close attention to the look that crossed his face and tilted his head in confusion. The cow had said his name would be perfect, and Todd believed it. He quickly abandoned the name George and looked at Caravaggio admiringly. A couple of names this time! Todd liked them. "Rapha... Raphell... Rem-rant. Rem-rant!" Or, well, he would if he could pronounce them. He seemed happy enough with his efforts but it didn't seem to quite settle as he kept on muttering to himself "Remrant, Remrant," over and over again.

A grunt left the crow's throat, head tilting. "There's already somebody called Raphael," she said critically. "You can't have the same name as somebody else. That would be ridiculous!"

Now, granted, Eve hadn't ever met the elusaive creature named Raphael, but she had heard of him, and in her opinion (which she valued very highly), it totally counts. She shifted her gaze to Todd to answer him. "It makes the best name because mothers know best," she said. "My son is named Oliver, and it is a superior name because-..."

She had to think it over for a moment. It had been a while since she tried to prove she was better than somebody else. "...Because it suits him." She nodded. "I didn't name my daughter, but even she has a fitting name." Black wasn't wrong after all - White was indeed.. white - as curious as that was. But she tried not to let herself get caught up in that mystery.

"'Rembrandt,' dear," she corrected lightly with a slight clack of her beak. "How about Rowan? You definitely look like a Rowan."

Caravaggio grinned proudly as the fox delighted in the names, but his smile slowly began to falter as the fox stumbled over the names, and turned into a full out frown when th bird criticized him for picking a name that already belonged to another Gembound. "Well! Excuse me for not knowing! At least this Raphael is blessed with a lovely name." He scoffed and wondered if there was some way he could take credit for it, despite not knowing this Raphael person at all. He listened impatiently as Eve explained the name of her son - Oliver - but his curiosity really piqued when she mentioned having a daughter. "Oh? And what's her name?" The cow cocked a brow, feigning an arrogant challenge that masked his voracious wonder. He hoped, oh he hoped she would speak the name and settle his curiosity once and for all.

More suggestions were presented to the fox and he looked back at the kit, still frowning. "Rowan! That's too girly. You want something simple?" He scoffed and lifted his head, searching his brain for a name that was both simple and fitting, and maybe a little elegant in its own way. "Todd! Todd. There you go." Caravaggio announced dismissively. Yeah, as if anybody was gonna go for THAT name.

@Todd (i dont know if you wanted eve or gio to pick his name, so i just went for it! let me know if you want me to change it, i can totally take it back if its not how you wanted it to go!)

"Speech" @Eve @Caravaggio

Oh. There goes that idea then. The little fox was was confused, and tilted his head far to one side as he looked at the crow quizzically. "So everyone has different names? Why wouldn't that be good?" Then his jaw fell open quite far, and he gave a tiny gasp. "That's why I can't be an eve!" he yelled excitedly, heart pounding in his moment of sudden realization. "I get it now!"

He felt so smart!

"Oh. So... is it better for a name to be perfect or for a name to... suit you?" he didn't know what the difference was at the moment. All this new information was making his head spin. The pair got a little loud, and he shied down slightly, ears drooping to the sides of his head. Rowan now! that was another idea. he thought it would be easier on the tongue. The little fox sucked in his breath, about to try it when... that one was turned down too. He let out his breath in a little puff of air.

Then suddenly... Todd. Todd. It was quick. Easy to remember. Not like rememb-ant or... whatever he had been called. It stuck in his mind. A grin spread over his little face.

"Todd... Todd. Todd!"

It was so easy to say! So fast. so firm. He'd have hated a name like Caravaggio but he loved saying this. He found it fun to say. He loved it. "Todd, Todd, Todd!" he sang, delightedly. "That's me. I'm a Todd now!"

((OOC: No, this is perfect! Thank you! <3 ))
