Bartos came to collect the children, and she looked away, her eyes on the ground. She couldn't bear seeing him avoid her, avert his glance, not touch her. She would blare it in her mind over and over that it was good he was taking Wist and Thorne away from her, away from the two lovely, golden, pale-furred pieces of trash over here, so that the twins would remain pure and happy.
But in her heart it hurt that he didn't spare her any words, not a single flicker of feeling in their bond to tell her it was going to be okay, at the very least.
So when they were gone, she looked at Kingsfoil with a dead look in her eyes, merged with barely concealed anger, and looking at him was like a flip was switched inside. She didn't care about him, she didn't even want to look at him, his very presence made her sick with memories clouding her. Memories of torture, screaming, heartbreak, and filth.
The child was everything Belladonna had promised. Beautiful, like a shimmering coin, perfect in its conception, but she wouldn't let any chance of his rotten core touch her twins.
She wanted to gouge those pretty golden eyes out, the ones that looked like hers.
