tottering on tiny paws, prata was making short work of polaris. he'd quickly gained proper sight and hearing, and while his sightless sapphire eye rendered him lacking in depth perception, he'd never known anything more. it was no hindrance to him, even if he tripped and fell a little more than the other kittens might tend to.
in the distance, he saw a shimmering light--larger than those all around him, a shimmering blue. the curiosity was killing him!
hurridly, the kitten bounded over, stopping just short of slipping into the water. eagerly, he raised a paw, and papped the pretty, wiggling blue substance curiously, giving a jump at its temperature.
on the edge of the bank he sat, gazing in amazement at the clear substance now coating his tiny black paw. perhaps...? he reached out his muzzle and lapped it up, perking up at the pleasant feeling of water. it was the first time he'd drank since hatching, after all.
curiously, prata took a glance back at the quivering bank, and pondered taking another swipe.

Tuck hopped along the paths of Polaris, like he seemed to do a lot these days. He was happy that most Gembounds seemed out of hibernation by now, and he made a point of wandering the rooms and tunnels in search of others. And here was another Gembound now! Perfect timing! But from this far away, he couldn’t tell what it was… Garmer, what do you see? he asked the kyte flying above him.
Garmer hovered there, and was silent for a moment. It’s a Gemling. A kitten, came the reply.
Tuck smiled. He loved babies, with their strong, curious minds and ever-flowing questions. He was often still the same as he’d been as a baby, never slowing down, always in other Gembound’s faces asking questions and being annoyingly inquisitive. He hopped closer and closer, until finally he could make out the shape of a kitten sitting at the water’s edge, lapping water from a wet paw. “Hello,” he called out cheerfully, hoping not to startle the Gemling. “Whatcha doin’?”
"Speech looks like this."
"Thoughts looks like this."
This is Garmer.

plip! the kitten dipped his little paw into the river again, marveling at the way the liquid shined around his foot. it wasn't long before he was batting at the water like a toy, splashing little rivulets of water and causing a ruckus--as much as such a tiny creature could, that is.
he was having a grand old time when the sound of a voice interrupted him, and he turned around in mild alarm, paw dripping in the air as he held it above his head.
"i'm playin'," came his little voice as he gave the monkey his brief attention, shaking off the wet paw rapidly. "who're you? what are you doing?" he meowed with a curious, almost accusatory tone, naive to the fact that monkeys could definitely eat kittens.
his eyes drifted over to the bird above him--so much larger than the furry creature himself, who looked almost catlike with that big bushy tail--and licked his chops unconsciously. he hadn't eaten since emerging, and for some reason the big bird was making him feel a nagging in his stomach.

Tuck couldn’t help but laugh at the kitten’s response. He was so spunky for being so small, just like Tuck had been as a Gemling. (Actually, Tuck was still pretty spunky, but…) “I’m Tuck,” the marmoset said, answering the kitten’s first question. “I’m not doing much of anything, really. Just wandering.” He looked up to follow the Gemling’s gaze, and saw Garmer circling above them. Come down here, he called to the kyte.
Garmer began to descend, nose-diving for a second or two and then quickly snapping his wings open before he hit the ground. His body lifted up for a moment at the intake of air under his wings, and then he plopped to the ground and walked over to Tuck and the kitten. He couldn’t speak aloud, so only Tuck could hear anything he said. Knowing this, the kyte gave a silent nod of greeting to the Gemling, hoping he would understand.
“This is Garmer,” Tuck said. “He’s friendly.”
"Speech looks like this."
"Thoughts looks like this."

prata watched on, enthralled by the by the bird's movements. his pupil had grown wide with hunger--could that big bird be eaten, perhaps, he thought? he was too young to know just how big of a catch he could make, and so to him, the kyte looked like a great feast.
his paw was still raised in the air, but all the water had dripped from it moments ago. he didn't bother twisting all the way around to speak to tuck and his friend, nor did he think to answer with his own name. there were other things on his mind.
"is he for eating?" meowed the kitten casually, his eye still fixed on garmer. he didn't mean it in a rude way--he simply had yet to learn his manners around friends of the cave--but as little as he was, prata didn't really pose a real threat, either.

Tuck nearly fell over laughing so hard when the kitten asked if Garmer was for eating. “For eating?” he repeated, sucking in breath as he guffawed loudly. “No, no! But, I mean, you’re welcome to try!” He waved a paw in the kyte’s direction, looking between the tiny kitten and the three-foot-long Garmer. Of course, he was joking about trying to eat the reptilian creature, but whether Prata knew that or not was unknown. Tuck’s laughter finally quieted, but he couldn’t help but smirk in amusement at the kitten. In his head, he was imagining the Gemling wiggling his butt in the air like all cats do before they pounce on something, and then trying to pounce on Garmer, who was way bigger than the kitten.
Garmer himself let out a noise of good-natured irritation at the very idea of being hunted by a kitten.
Tuck laughed at the sound. “Garmer says he thinks you’re adorable.” (The kyte had thought no such thing). The marmoset spoke in a sarcastic tone, then grinned cheekily at the kitten, waiting to see what would happen next.

"Thoughts looks like this."

prata sneered at the furry thing as it guffawed at him. the nerve! he almost wanted to pounce on the big bird just to prove a point, but he knew they were right--he'd only make more of a fool of himself like that.
he couldn't help a swell of pride at being called "adorable," though--it was silly to feel that way, because he was certain he was just being mocked! indignance was full in his chest!
angrily, he spun around and slapped his paw into the water once, before regretting his decision. that was kind of mean to the water. it hadn't done anything. he felt bad now.
"whatever," murmured prata, taking once last watery glance back at the duo before looking away with a pout. he looked like he was trying his darnedest to hold back tears.

Oh no! It seemed his teasing had gone too far. Now, Tuck was well aware that he was often too harsh. The thing was, he just didn’t care. But the kitten was… well, a kitten — a baby. And he felt really bad when babies got their feelings hurt, because he remembered being small and finding the world terrifying and feeling like he always had to be an ass to make himself feel big and important. So making babies feel bad was definitely not on this marmoset’s agenda. He sighed and hopped closer to the kitten. “Look, kid, I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings. You can try to eat Garmer all you want, okay? He won’t mind.”
Garmer made a very verbal noise of protest, but didn’t seem too worried about it.
“See?” Tuck continued, looking at the Kyte, and then back at the feline with a grin. “He just said you could practice hunting him if you wanted.”
A louder noise of protest this time, but Garmer seemed to be conveying that he was going along with the joke.
“Whadya say?” the monkey asked. “You wanna pounce on ‘im?”
"Speech looks like this."
"Thoughts looks like this."
This is Garmer.
