Torrential downpours cause localized flooding and many upset cats. Along with these frequent rain, from gentle drizzles to heavy rainfall, there seems to be a flux of Magicka drawn in particular to water sources. Occasional jet streams of warm air make narrower tunnels harder to navigate. On occasion, the rain intensifies, becoming howling storms with sleet or large hail. However, the temperatures overall are a little warmer, with snow and ice in temperate caves somewhat receding.
Temporarily alone she found herself migrating almost instinctively to a room of water. She couldn't see it with her eyes very well but in the air she knew that the misty feel and the smell was what she wanted. It had been a while since she'd gotten to feel the wonderful sensation of water on her skin, far too long, an aftertaste in her thoughts. The mare wandered forward, head lowered and eyes wide as she tried to take in what she could which was not much but her ears told her that the shore was coming up fairly quickly.
Splash!
And there it was!
With a giddy whiny the horse thundered forward, not able to get into the waves fast enough. Unlike the waters elsewhere this place was warm and felt positively wonderful on her coat. Instinctively she swam around, taking herself out to the deeper waters as she allowed herself to get lost in the ecstasy of the water. Ah, how wonderful it all was.

Since his travels away from Polaris, Thomas had grown ill of the complete darkness. He hated how little he could see no matter how hard he tried to look. Everything seemed so flat and non-dimensional. Nothing seemed to have texture upon a glance unless one were to approach and touch it. This annoyed Thomas, and made him constantly grumble under his breath in frustration. "I hate the dark," he would groan.
During his wandering, the young elk had stumbled across Fornax. He had never been here before nor heard stories. He was entranced by the warmth that came from the air. As he traveled deeper into the cave he could hear the soft sounds of water splashing. Curious to see, Thomas stopped in his tracks, closed his eyes, and began to focus on his inner flame.
He could feel his stomach area begin to warm up. His face and throat soon followed. Thomas opened his eyes and discovered that he was indeed glowing. The spell only offered a bit of light, but it was enough to see where he was walking and a couple of meters in front of him. His eyes, nose and tail glowed the most, but the soft white light could be seen around his stomach, throat and rear. The longer he held the spell, the more it started to cause a burning sensation. With a bit of cheer in his step, the young elk continued to wander forward until he could see the waters edge. And, just beyond, he could see a gembound of some kind swimming about in the water. Thomas was tempted to end his focus on the spell, hopefully stopping it, but he chose to keep it so the swimming gembound could see him from far away. He called out.
Thomas attempts to Cast Spell — Torchlight( light the way? )
Barely Successful!
I do not match post length if I'm feeling blue (otherwise I usually do), but I always try to have no more than 50 words less than my roleplaying partner(s). If a thread remains dead without a warning for more then two weeks, Thomas will exit. My bby is precious to me
The mare continued to swim about in the waves, hooves kicking powerfully in the water while a happy little hum escaped her throat. Off on the shoreline she could see something moving into view, something glowing and definitely alive. Her eyes widened in surprise and she came to a halt while she tread the water. From the glow that it gave off she could see that his was some sort of deer, a young one from how small it seemed. Where had he come from? More importantly... Did it matter? She absolutely had to go greet him now!
With the glow he gave off it was quite easy to swim over to him and haul herself onto the land so that she could get a closer look. Once on land she extended her head forward to try to see him even better and deduced that this was indeed, as she had thought, some sort of calf. How cute! Saga gave a whinny of greeting before launching into her bright singsong words, "Hai hai, ki'eh! You have much bright light, much pretty, ya! Water dripped down from her coat, pooling around her hooves but she kept herself from rolling upon the ground, it felt much better to leave the water soaking her short fur. "This One is Saga. Who you?"
Thomas watched as the swimming gembound made its way from the water towards him. He was curious as to what the creature was. When it found it's way onto the rock and the elk could hear the sound of its hooves, he knew it was a creature like him. As it got closer, he was able to tell it was a horse. This was the first hoofed gembound he had discovered; other than himself. This discovery made his head raise up and his ears perk.
"Saga?" he repeated. Thomas' white glow began to fade. His eyes, nose and tail still shone fairly bright, but the rest of him was starting to dim. "My name is Thomas." He looked over the mare with quick eyes. Based on her size, he assumed she was fully grown, which meant she was at least a couple of cycles old. He noted where Saga's gem was located. He thought it was an odd location and shape for a stone. All the other gembounds he met had gems small, clumped and in casual locations; not the blaze of their face.
"Your gem," he started. "I have never seen one like it."
As she stood talking him she noticed that the glow on his body was gradually starting to fade, giving way to only a few points of his body that still glowed brightly. "Thomas! Saga is much pleased to meet you!" She said genuinely. It was always fun for her to meet new gembounds, especially nice ones like this young creature seemed to be.
He mentioned her gem then which caused her to tilt her head briefly and then she gave a trill of laughter. "Really? You should meet Saga's friend Nemestrinus! He has gem like this too!" Not exactly like hers but it did make a pretty blaze on his face plus other things. "His gem makes teeth too! Come out of his mouth like snake!" It was a very interesting thing to say the least, she'd never seen someone else's stone that made teeth like his before. It was fairly unique and only one of the many reasons she loved him so dearly.
"How long you been out of chrysalis, Thomas?" She asked, curious because of his apparent youth.
Thomas had a look of kindness spread across his features. He thought the mare to be very sweet and he was already enjoying her company. "I really like your gem. It's unique and a very pretty color," he added to his previous comment about her blaze. He was truly amazed at its location. The way it appeared flat up along her face; it certainly was unique. But when Saga spoke of another gembound with a similar gem that also turned into a pair of fangs, he got even more excited. Thomas perked his ears forward and his tail twitched in response. "Really? Fangs? Hopefully I meet this Nemestrinus one day to see for myself!" he exclaimed.
Thomas pondered his emergence for a moment. He had met a few gembounds over a varied time span, yet he knew that he was less than a cycle old. "I've been out long enough to meet four other gembounds and travel distances. Less than a cycle for sure. But I do not know if there is a measurement of age less than a cycle. Do you know?" Thomas was newly emerged, and still had lots to learn. It was apparent with his question about a 'measurement of age'.
Saga felt absolutely thrilled that this young calf was so polite and so nice! She always seemed to get so lucky with finding nice gems! Even if they didn't start out that way they always seemed to turn out that way in the end. "Ikikoo, Thomas! You are much nice!" She said sincerely. She oh-so-loved compliments and he seemed to be full of them to make her even happier than she already was! "You can! Nemestrinus and Saga travel together! We never far apart! Nemmy-Nemestrinus might be 'round here somewheres!" Possibly in the next tunnel but she knew not too far, she simply had to go looking for him and she would find him! "We together make uh... make a herd! Ya! Friends, always there for each other." That's exactly what they were, a herd. The word fit so well for thepair of them plus their two little charges and Saga was always happy to expand their little family.
The mare nodded her head when the answers and new question came. "Days, weeks. Days shorter than weeks, weeks shorter than cycles. Days usually counted by light-dim cycles of lights, but--" She looked up, as if to prove a point about the obvious darkness of the caves. "No lights." She looked back down at the youngster. "Have to go by feelings now until lights back. So, Thomas might be few days old, maybe week, ya?" There was no way to tell completely for sure but with her experience before she was just able to feel when a day was over with but it was only gut feelings, possibly not completely accurate.
"Saga sorry there no lights but just have to make most of it till fixed!" She said with a little giggle. That was how she viewed life, make the most out of every bad situation that seemed to pop up.
Thomas nodded along with the joyous mares words. She was quite a lively creature, but that made the young elk happy. He loved being in the company of joy; nothing was better than it. Being with gembounds who were grumpy and rude were awful to be around. All they do is poke at another's feelings until they break or walk away. Thomas recalled a memory of when a gembound did that to him and he shuddered.
Never again.
Thomas was intrigued by the idea of the gembound with the fangs made of their stone. "Maybe you can lead me to them sometime? I would love to meet Nemestrinus," he replied. The young elk then began to dwell on the word herd when Saga spoke of it. He had never heard of a gathering of gembounds known as a herd before. All he knew of was 'groups'. Thomas was learning a lot by speaking to the mare, which made him want to ask a million questions. It seemed the longer she talked, the more he discovered.
"Days and weeks?" he said. Again, he grew thrilled to be learning something new. "I think I'm a week or two old, then. I don't really know," Thomas said sheepishly. He was embarrassed that he didn't know his own age. Most gembounds probably knew their own age!
"The missing lights is not your fault!" Thomas replied to the mare. "I just wish they would come back on. I want to know what life is like when you can actually see everything," he laughed.
"Saga?" he started with a lower voice and a somewhat more serious tone. He was thinking of when she had spoken of her herd. Thomas wondered what it would be like to have others you could depend on whenever you needed help. He liked the idea of having advice readily available from gembounds you trusted. "You talked of a herd? What is it like being in a herd?" The elk's voice was soft; he was obviously genuine about the subject. He hoped the mare would take him seriously, but why wouldn't she? Saga was answering all his questions with joy and facts.
Saga nodded vigorously, always happy to introduce new gembounds to her friends. That just built up a new network of connections that could work together. Besides, it was just plain fun to have a group together that just absolutely loved being around each other! "Kir! Kir! Of course! This One is sure Nemenstrinus would love to meet you as well, Thomas!" In fact, she was absolutely positive in the fact! Nemestrinus was always happy to meet new gembounds just like she was.
"Is alright! Saga not completely sure how many cycles she has been around. Just a many." How many? Well, that was up to debate. Maybe she would have to sit down and figure it out or maybe she would be just content knowing she'd been around for "a many". Most likely the latter. "Saga would too. Much more fun in light... but still can be fun in dark too!" But still... if she could see much more easily it would be better. Easier to find her friends as well.
The young gembound called her then, tone a bit more serious than before. The mare grunted curiously, ears pricking forward and head leaning in as she awaited to see what he would say.
Her ears twitched and a smile, which had briefly wavered in the seriousness of her name, eased back onto her face but it was a soft one as her eyes seemed to take on a faraway look in the gloom. "Herd is... much good. Always you have someone to watch our back, always have someone to talk to and lend support if needed. Is like... family, kir. Like family." She hoped she was explaining it well enough. Even with the tiny herd that she had now with Nemestrinus and the two young gembounds there were the benefits that shown through. "Does Thomas want a herd?" It was her turn to have her voice take on a more serious note. If he wanted it she would be happy to take him into her family, nothing would make her happier in this moment.
Thomas looked at Saga with a gentle gaze. She was a kind soul and he had never met another gembound quite as pure as she was. He was enjoying her company extremely, but he wasn't sure if he could handle a herd. He liked the idea of having a group of like-minded gembounds to spend his time with, but he also enjoyed exploring on his own; wandering. Thomas wasn't sure if he should ask her about joining in on her herd or not. Instead, he quieted his thoughts and listened to her talk.
"A family?" he repeated. Thomas didn't really know what a family was like or what a family did. "I like the idea of having support all the time. Always having another kind gembound to take care of you when you cannot care for yourself." He would have kept rambling on about his thoughts on a herd, but he decided to quiet himself. When Saga asked if Thomas wanted a herd, his heart grew somewhat heavy.
He looked at the mare with a soft look etched across his facial features. He dipped his head in her direction and twitched his tail. "Can you have a herd, but still wander on your own?" Thomas asked. "I want to be in a herd so I can have a family, but I also really like to be alone." He was confused and didn't know what to think.
Hopefully Saga can help.
His thought sparked a sudden idea. Thomas began to wiggle his tail and ears from the excitement that came along with his feeling. "Maybe I can be in a herd when the herd needs me and when I need it? But when everything is settled and relaxed and no one is bored, I can wander the caves on my own. But I will still have a family."
