The little snake closed her eyes to his breath on her face; it was the first comfort she would know in this world, even if it stunk. The air was warm - soft, really, was the way she'd describe it. She would heed his words closely, for there was nothing in this cave that could hide her color but the darkness. Desire raised herself up as he stood, towering above her, even at the greatest length she could stretch to. One day she thought, I will be that big. She could hope for it, anyway.

His departing words were fascinating to Desire; though she had yet to understand the meaning of light in its entirety, she knew the darkness, a camoflage which she was deeply grateful for. If the lights returned, she could be found, and eaten - according to Khloros. How could she survive so exposed? The plants would be her shelter, light or dark, for she saw the darkness was even more so beneath their broad leaves. Of course.

Desire was sad to see him go, but as a child she was at the mercy of hunger and in need of excessive rest. "I will find you again," she rasped, ever a poor mimic, "then I can tell you what I have learned since." Once he had gone, she lowered herself to the ground again to swallow her meal, and when she had finished, her bloated form slithered off into the greens.
Exit Desire.
