Alan smiled at Kera. He hoped that she was happy with the gem that he gave her and that she wasn't sad it wasn't as cool as Calliope's. And he hoped that Calliope wasn't mad that he was getting one for Kera as well. Although, he didn't really understand why he would be. Everyone was getting presents and everyone was happy. Wasn't that reason enough to be happy as well?

He placed a claw on the gem and focused his magic once again. He let it flow into the crystal and it started to shine a variety of colors, all mixed and marbled. Happy and pleased with his work, he set his foot back on the ground and picked it up, presenting it to Kera. "There, now its glowing for you! I hppe you like it!"

When Kera made the blue mushrooms, Alan jumped with surprise. The mushrooms were really cool! He bent down to look at them and compared them to his feathers. She was right, they were blue like him. He wondered if they were gems too. However, upon a soft peck, they were squishy, not hard like a crystal. Well, they weren't gems, but that made them extra cool.

"Thank you, I love them!" Perhaps this was his gift. A ring of glowing mushrooms. He didn't have to give himself a life day gift, since that would ruin the purpose. Content, he sat himself in the center, his feathers puffing up with delight.

calliope honestly didn't dislike kera at all, she just had certain, jealous tendencies that made it hard to like anyone all of the time. in fact, she was sincerely grateful to kera for showing her to make mushrooms in the ground, and she was thankful that kera was helping to show her around the world they lived in. but still, calliope's envious nature got in the way of her making friendships.

when she was left alone with kera, calliope started to feel the gravity of the situation-- it was certainly uncomfortable and she was certain that kera felt the same way. calliope didn't look at kera, so as to hide any emotion present in her eyes. it seemed like an eternity had passed before alan returned with the gem and encased it in light for kera to have. hmmmph... not as pretty as mine. she though silently to herself.

as thanks, kera offered up a ring of glowing mushrooms. then an idea came to calliope. "hey alan, why don't you try to make a bauble with one of those mushrooms?" it seemed like a good idea on paper, though she wasn't exactly sure how creating baubles worked-- maybe it was restricted to inorganic matter only. "i'm sure it'd glow beautifully if it worked."

Kera gently pulled the rainbow-crystal closer to herself, briefly watching colours dance against her own ragged white fur. She was silent for a moment, thoughtful, though only half-listening to Alan's expression of gratitude and Calliope's suggestion.

She had no den or place to put the crystal-- she'd have to sort that out, if she didn't give it to Giggle first. The light it supplied, regardless, would likely be a good gift for Giggle anyway. Maybe she'd even put it in her mushroom garden with all the light-mushrooms that Kera had showed her how to make.

Ears flicking, Kera's eyes darted up to look between the bird and the deer. "Uh," she offered brilliantly-- silent again for a few moments, before pushing herself up and speaking further.

"These ones are already glowing," she said quietly, half-watching her glowing crystal-- wary, for some reason, that something would try to steal it. "So it might not work, but we can try on--" She looked around, feeling out without really trying to feel anything at all, really.

She paced off a little further, sniffing cautiously, then placed her face to the ground. Her gem shimmered under the mane of fur around her neck, then cut out as abrupt pain shot through Kera's chest. She let out a yelp-- half from the shock and half from the agony --and paced back alarmedly to her crystal, shaking her bristling fur flat.

Her intentions had been to grow normal mushrooms. Perhaps Kera should stick to bioluminescent ones.

She shook herself out a second time, frowning. "That-- here," she said, as a second idea came to mind. She lay herself down onto her side and gently nosed at the soft, black frills embedded into the skin around her flank. "You can try making one of these things glow, but be careful that you don't bite or break them."

Giggle had said-- in her own way --that they taste bad and stick and smell bad, but Kera had not yet been attacked by any stray geese to test this theory out yet. Hopefully, with a verbal warning given out already, Alan would be careful not to break them.

The last thing she needed, really, was black goop sticking to her fur. It would be a pain to get out, she suspected.

Alan tilted his head with confusion. Why did Calliope want him to bauble the mushrooms? Like Kera said, they were already glowing. But, whatever, he could try it anyways. He guessed they would glow extra bright.

He didn't notice Kera's failure, but when she leaned down to give him access to the fungus growing on her skin, he nodded. That was probably a better idea. It didn't occur to him at the moment that bauble was permanent.

He stepped forward and pressed his head against the mushrooms. The magic stirred in him and he felt it flowing out through his gem and, within seconds, Kera's mushrooms were glowing bright blue. He stepped back and admired his handiwork. "Cool! Pretty! You're fur looks blue now!"
