At last, Envy made it back to the crumbling warren some distance from the spire, nudging ahead of them a colourful egg. Their lips were peeled back in an elated grin, the fruits of their labour laid before them in the back of the burrow, in a small room where part of the tunnel had collapsed in on itself. A feeling of pride greeted the weasel as they sent the egg rolling down into the burrow, where it landed with a soft squelch, and a sweet scent.

Odd...

The selfish little weasel frowned. They’d planned to return and grab more of the colourful eggs before they were all taken, but the sweet scent and strange noise had stirred up some concern. That hadn’t happened before... the weasel descended into the burrow, sniffing. It grew stronger.

The weasel came to a halt in a state of stunned silence as they entered the small room, which was now stuffed to the brim with strange, yellow objects almost as long as they were. And though they scampered and sniffed, not a single colourful egg to be found. Envy searched, speechless. As sweet as the scent was, they’d wanted the gem-eggs! They’d been so pretty!

And they couldn’t even eat!

Everything Envy wanted always seemed to lead to bad luck. The weasel’s eyes filled with bitter, angry tears and they sank to the ground with a betrayed and indignant scream. "Nooooo!"

The weasel rampaged, raising a paw to kick at the mess of mush, but finding that the goop only stuck to their fur. Sticky, angry and smelling of banana, the weasel retreated outside and started cleaning the pulp from their fur with their tongue. Though in a million years they’d never admit it, the taste was pleasant, and they soon found themselves slinking back for more.

"speak."
