A small sound came from the goose's bill, the smallest of honk's, almost like a chirp, a little amused at Pride's statements. He put a lot of thought, it seemed, to manners - that was good, of course, but to her, it was all the same. "I wouldn't really care, to be honest, if others simply called me "goose" to get my attention. It is a title, perhaps rude to some, but to someone nameless like me, it doesn't make much of a difference." And that begged the question to her - if she was content with others calling her "goose," then why did she need a name at all?

The answer didn't come immediately. She did not voice this to Pride.

"It's not just wanting to be useful, I guess. I don't know, since I've woken up, all I've really wanted to do was something good. Make people happy. When others are happy, I'm happy and I want to continue to do that."

"Yes, but it's hardly proper, and others will see it as rude; it is an awkward request, to simply call you 'goose.'" As for the 'happiness' thing, he considered.

"It certainly raises interesting questions, doesn't it? What makes Gembound happy? What gifts can be granted that will simply give us contentment?" It was said in a musing tone, and he turned away and plodded back toward the Throne, lying down beside it. "I think so many have had so much hardship that merely the absence of it is a start. Past that, I do not know. Food? Comforts? I find that many enjoy stories," Pride offered, as a suggestion, peering at the goose. "I learned storytelling for my sons. I add magic to it. I think... that being lost in possibilities and imagination, for awhile--some enjoy that very much. But others--many, I think, could just use someone to listen to them." This was thoughtfully-said, and Pride was thinking of Mercurius when he said it. Many went to the white lion to voice their troubles to him, to seek wise counsel or even just an open ear.

Past that, he was not sure what made others happy--and he found himself lost in the question, pondering the philosophical threads that wound away from it.
