She'd tried at the green kooru already. In fact, she'd been totally prepared to give up on him entirely and maybe even drop this endeavor altogether. But that was just the thing about this kooru -- he'd reacted with a bright spirit. Also, the heart-shaped marking on his side was very charming to her, and she generally liked the color green (even if the blue female had been prettier). She'd climbed back onto the tree near his camp and eyed him, a little further up the tree this time.

Sunny was feeling a little inferior. If she couldn't even mother a kooru, did she really deserve the chance to try with her stones? Her tentacles wiggled towards him. No, this had become almost personal -- failing three times and twice violently was supremely upsetting to her. So now, she was trying again.

He reacted violently again. The kooru threw another rock in a random direction (not hers this time) and let out a louder cry, indignant and frightened, before he fled totally into the bushes. Sunny sulked as she watched him go, unsure if he'd even want to come back again. If she had magic cast on her twice in a row in her own home, she probably wouldn't have been too keen to go back. Then again, she didn't know how smart he was.

But in the same stroke of luck, a faint rustling caught her attention. A little bit of glowing light from underneath some ferns, a vaguely kooru-shaped form. A blue nose poked slightly out and sniffed carefully before rolling a rock into the clearing. Sunny stayed still. Slowly, the blue kooru crept out, letting out a soft "Koo?" as she looked for him. Caution read in every cell of her body -- she was terrified of being assaulted by Sunny's magic again.

Unfortunately, Sunny wanted a familiar.

From Sunny reached out a magical tether. Delicately, it touched the kooru's mind. She started, looking around wildly, and then the connection was formed. Her eyes shifted to Sunny, and her mind held a deeply foreign sort of thought (and, distantly, Sunny was grateful that the kooru didn't talk in stilted speech like she did) that she could vaguely translate into confusion.

"Hello!" Sunny started to slide down the tree to the kooru could grab her. "I am Sunny! We are friends now, yes?"

"Koo-roo?" she called, walking closer to the tree.

"Friends," Sunny said, enunciating slowly, realizing that the kooru didn't really know what a 'friend' was and that her explanation was lackluster at best. "Erm... no, actually -- Sunny-snail is your mother now," she said instead, and the kooru understood that much better. She made a chirruping noise. "Would you pick me up, please?" she asked once she was within range. The kooru grabbed her shell carefully in the three globes of the tail and carried Sunny upside-down like a rock or a tasty morsel of food for later.

Sunny was not used to having the most sensitive part of her body exposed to the air. "Uhm. Not quite carrying this way," she corrected gently, projecting a mental image of her sitting between the kooru's ears (she really needed a name, huh?). Thankfully, the blue striped creature didn't seem too perturbed by the idea and set Sunny down. With a pleasant noise herself, Sunny touched the blue fur with her tentacles.

They were going to get along swimmingly.
