If the orthoclase had any presence of mind, it would've twisted to snap at the lantern drifting by it. Instead, dull eyes fixated on it as it moved. The strange—alive, awful—cavern's influence? made every bit of cast light and shadow it threw more intense. It was a blinding sun, and one would almost wish they could bask in it.

Yet, Alpha could not. The master they'd been travelling with was slinking out from behind the pack. Two voices spoke at once as they moved. Not a single word was fully parsed by the monstrous hybrid; most of them were just barely caught. Some were familiar names, and others were entirely new. Nidhogg, fresh out of attacking its tail, had done the job of asking all those questions that it was presently unwilling to.

It shifted its weight, eyeing Selenite and Zoisite nestled by its legs for just a moment—just to make sure they were listening, as Vargas had commanded.
