there is no such thing as harmless power

If Nerium had a human mouth, it would be wide in a smile. As it stands, she just ruffles her feathers and gives Adina a pleased little chirp, voice bright and cheerful. "Yes! You're the coolest knight I've ever met!"

Granted, she's also the only knight she's ever met, and also she just became a knight today because of her, but—hey, that doesn't matter! What matters is that Adina is big and strong and looks like she could keep her safe!

Speaking of which... she raises a wing to just below her beak, thinking. What else could they do?

Normally, she spends her days finding food, then proceeding to hide away from the brightness of the sun, using her magic to keep her as cool as she dares, scared of monsters... but she's still giddy off of this social interaction, off of this unexpected friend, and she feels a little more daring with a knight at her side. If anything happens... Adina will just scare the monsters away! Yeah!

Logic sound, she surveys the bear in front of her, considering their options. The Hydra sun bears down at them, hot and heavy, and unconsciously, Nerium reaches for her magic.

The air cools a few degrees around them; only a slight change, but Nerium welcomes the chill regardless.

Then, an idea comes to her. "Oh! Do you have magic, too?"

Adina was enjoying the excitement of Princess Nerium and she was getting excited herself!

Then there was a chill in the air. It came from nowhere and took Adina by surprise. But it also felt nice so she didn't freak out there and then. And before she could react, Nerium asked a strange question.

Do I have magic, too? Too...

From the phrasing of the question, Adina seemed to be able to put two and two together and realize that Nerium had caused the chill. But that's where the addition stopped because all Adina knew was that the chill in the air was all of magic and she couldn't make the air colder. Or anything for that matter. Too much fluff.

"No, I don't have magic."

Apparently, seeing where life was hiding wasn't magic. Not to Adina, at least. She thought that was just normal.

"...oh."

That's... kinda sad, actually, the thought that Adina has no magic at all. To her, magic is like... a lifeline. Something she can use that makes herself feel a little better when she's scared of monsters in the heat. She doesn't like to think about what she would do without magic...

...it would make her feel weak. More than she already does, sometimes.

She doesn't like feeling weak.

But that's—that's all in the past! And she knows that even though if Adina doesn't have magic, she must be able to do something, right? Otherwise, how would she be able to survive in a place like this?

Well, Nerium is curious, insatiable for knowledge, and she's gonna figure out what Adina can do! She swears it!

With new determination, she pipes up, "Well, what can you do? You're a knight—a fuzzy knight!" Even though she doesn't understand how, exactly, being fuzzy has anything to do with a knight, she'll go with it—"Knights can do cool stuff 'cause they are cool!"

Why can knights do cool stuff? Well, because she says they can, of course! And because Adina is way bigger than she is... she bets she's way more powerful than her...

At the question of 'what else', Adina flashed back throughout the entirety of her life up to this point.

It was a lot to examine so Adina sat down. But the stone floor was pretty hot so she stood up again and put on her concentration face.

Fuzzy. Yup, covered that. What else was there?


No magic, fuzzy... This was really difficult. She thought about her life before meeting Nerium.


I didn't know her, but I heard her, and then I found her... Oh! There it was!


"I can find things! I'm really good at it!" One out of one times successfully finding things was very good odds. If she could do it once, she could probably do it again.

"Yep! I can find really cool things!" And creatures.
