Survival is awarded to the worthy

After wandering the sand-filled cave of Hydra for what felt like forever in the heat (it was really just hitting the two hour mark), Heathen's throat was burning. And their paw pads. And their skin. And their eyes. Everything was burning and dry, causing the cub's skin to blister and itch where the fur was thinner. But even so, the leopard cub kept moving forward. Trying to find... well, anything really. After finding the skull that they hid in during the sand worm attack right after their birth, Heathen hadn't seen much in terms of food or water. Just sand and bones.

That is, of course, until they wandered into the crucible. Finally, things were starting to look up for them as they trotted forward with new vigor to lap up what water they could from the tiny stream. They'd remember this place.

For now, the only danger the cub would face would be the heat: nothing stirred, not yet. The water offered its cool refreshment, its reassuring gurgle; river grasses stirred beneath the brightly-lit blue.

The wind blew through the canyon--hot, but a welcome relief nonetheless, twinning with the canyons' shade to provide its respite.

Heathen will remain safe for approximately two in-character hours or the end of the thread, whichever comes first. A GM should be tagged for further rolls if another character joins the thread.

Letting the water soothe their tongue and throat, Heathen found themselves enjoying the silence. Having woken to such a ruckus, it was more of a comfort than a bother. It allowed them to think. Truly think, now that their mind wasn't focused on surviving a giant worm or finding water. They'd have to find food next, and then shelter, but for now? The little leopard was content.

Until their paws started throbbing, the heated sand drying out their paw pads and causing them to crack. They dipped each paw in the little stream of water, hoping it would soothe their paws like it did their throat. It wouldn't be good for them to stay here much longer if it was causing this much discomfort. There was no point in living somewhere that harmed them... Not until they could fight back at least.

I'll be the shark. Just you wait!
And with that, Heathen was off again; searching for the exit.
