In a small offset cave in the twists and turns of the geode caves, there was one small den like cave. Within this cave was a small spire of gemstone. This gemstone was a deep purple color, this color so deep it could almost be mistaken for black if not for the light shifting through it from the one single small glowing crystal in the ceiling that cast a soft light around the little den. If one walked around the small room and examined the stone, one might be able to catch a glimpse of the small creature within.

Every now and again the figure held within the small gemstone spire whose base was surrounded by a multitude of smaller deep purple gemstones that almost seemed to form a kind of nest for the spire. The little form within the gemstone seemed to be sleeping as it only ever moved as small twitches and jerks of its little body.

Suddenly the form within the spire opened its jaws in the form of a gasp. The little creature began to thrash violently. As the creature within the spire moved erratically, it slammed into the outside of the chrysalis once, and then again, and then it slammed its paws against the surface and again threw its entire body at it. Without warning the surface of the chrysalis spiderwebbed and shattered open, dumping shattered gemstone shards and goop from inside the chrysalis on the ground. Quickly behind that a small mottled grey form tumbled out of the chrysalis and lay on the ground gasping. He had no visible gemstone anywhere on his body. The creature was a gangly young wolf cub.

The cub trembled as it pushed itself up into a sitting position. It sat coughing and gasping as it spit out the liquid from within the chrysalis. ”Too small… Too small…” The little wolf cub swallowed as he spoke the words. He had been terrified within his chrysalis as he had opened his eyes for the first time. It had been as if the walls themselves had been closing in on him. It felt like it was getting smaller and smaller and it felt like it was going to crush him if he hadn’t gotten out. Bright frightened emerald eyes lifted and looked around the small den made of shifting and shimmering geodes.

Gemini wasn't exactly a cave that Comet enjoyed visiting. She avoided looking at herself in the mirror like crystals, although it was hard to do that when they were everywhere. So why was she here? Well, adventurers needed to learn to go in all sorts of places to learn to face their fears. It was strange, wasn't it? That Comet made friends with dragons, but couldn't face looking at herself sometimes.

She proceeded into the Geode Caves, which had clusters of smaller crystals which blurred the reflections. Better. Oh, what was this small cave? Of course, she just had to see. The very moment Comet turned the corner, Sigurd burst out of his chrysalis. It seemed that on her explorations the wolf seemed to run into so many hatching gembounds. "Hello!" Comet walked over to the pup and and folded back her ears in surprise. A wolf pup! A wolf like her! She hadn't seen wolves for a long time in these caves. The last time she saw one was... she couldn't even remember! Sometimes she wondered if she were the only one left.

Her heart immediately spilled over with affection for the small thing, and Comet tried licking the pup's fur to warm him up.

Sigurd blinked his eyes clearing the blur from them, as he turned his head looking around the small cave. It was nice and homey at least to him. It felt safe in this small space where he could see all around him. As his vision cleared a white form appeared from around a corner and approached him. Much too large ears folded back nervously as he looked at the much larger creature. Then it spoke to him. For a moment he wasn’t sure what to do, he wasn’t even sure they were talking to him.

Tilting his head the young cub looked up at the white creature through curious green eyes. The young cub sat shivering from the fluid on his fur. He seemed to lift one paw and lean back a bit but finally accepted the licks to clean and warm him. ”H...H...Hello” He imitated the white creatures first words to him. Green eyes watched the white creature curiously as they seemed to be instantly taken with him. He was a bit confused but seemed to just accept the flow and go with it.

Comet looked into the small pup's green eyes, which reminded her of the forests of Eridanus. There was just something about this pup, not just that he was a wolf, that reminded her of herself. "What's your name?" she asked, continuing to clean of the fluid covering his fur with her tongue.

Sigurd
The Shadow in the Dark
Sigurd looked up at the pure white creature that was like him but bigger and they had a gemstone ear. She had lovely blue eyes that perfectly showed her emotions. He wasn’t sure what he was seeing but he saw it. She asked in that sweet friendly voice for his name. He blinked several times as he thought about that. A name? What was a name? Did he have one? He sat letting her lick his fur clean and dry as he thought of these philosophical questions. He was just born and he had no idea that he even had a name.

The young pup wobbled as he tried to get his paws under him for the first time. Finally getting to his paws the little wolf cub staggered from side to side as he looked up at her. One word came to mind and he didn’t know why but it sounded right. He didn’t know what or who he was or even what a name was, but he knew what to call her. ”M… Mommy?” He asked curiously in a sweet childish voice. The young wolf stepped closer to the white creature and looked up at her through clear green eyes. Was she his mommy? Had she given him the life he now held? He didn’t know but he knew someone out there had given him life and now he had a reason to go. He wanted to find who had given him life. Unless he had found them but could he really be that lucky?

"No, I'm not your mommy." Comet was sad that she had to let him down like that, but it was the truth, but there was no hiding it. She herself did not have a mommy, but she considered her adopted ones to be her parents. Did this pup come from the revival of a stone? Or was it a random event? Either way, her nose had not caught scent of anything around this place. So whether he had a parent or not, he was alone. "However, I do think that I can take you in. Do you want to come with me?" she smiled at him. Comet could not abandon this child.
