Bayo trotted along rather happily, his bag of seeds around his neck. It wasn't a very long trip from Gemini to Canis with the tunnel between them that had opened up, leaving him with plenty of time left in the day to try and strike a deal.

He stopped and looked around, his ear and tongue flopping around as he shook himself out, his tail wagging constantly.

”Collector!!”, he barked, doing a little tap dance, ”I want to trade a thing!”

He appeared in a flourish of freshly-patched cloak, the black cloth sweeping around him as he offered a bow.

"Ahh, one of the little denizens of Canis. What might I, the humble Collector, do for you? What is it that you wish to trade?"

Bayo slapped his front paws down as the Collector appeared, his entire butt wagging with excitement, ”Oh MAN! Yer real! That's so cool- how did you do tha'? Can I do tha'? Can y'teach me-”

He shot questions off faster than they could even be answered, his paws doing a little tap-dance as he spoke before he seemed to remember why he was here.

”Right! I got these weird seeds from th' glowin' thing in the gem cave,” he said, wiggling his satchel off his neck and gesturing to it, ”But the bag's kinda useful though so I'd like t' keep it. Anyway... I want a neck thing. Like somethin' t' go around my neck that's cloth and I want it to be red! I think it'd look mighty fine!”

He wagged his tail and grinned up at the Collector, his tongue lolling out of his mouth.

The Collector peered. Seeds..?

Well, it could be an item worth something to those who valued such things, certainly. Hm.

He extended out a clawed hand, mildly. "Very interesting, my little friend. May I see them-?" he asked, and then added: "And may I also ask who it is that I have the pleasure of addressing?"

This was rather a more mundane sort of trade than he was used to, but it was certainly doable. "That is all you want, hm? A bit of red cloth? No magic influence, nothing to make you look, perhaps, bolder or more heroic, more trustworthy-?"

How unusual. And how simple.

”Bayo!”, he barked, grabbing the bag and ever so gently tipping the seeds into the Collector's hands, ”Dish ish all I got!”

He set the bag down and considered the Collector's offer before looking down at himself and wagging his tail harder, ”That's nice mister but I'm already bold an' heroic an' trustworthy! 'Cause I'm nice to th' people I meet and I always help out! That's what a hero is, y'know! But uh... I mean if it looks nicer than just plan ol' red then I don' mind! I jus' want somethin' nice t' wear, like that cool cloak you've got!”

”Somethin' to really let people know that I'm Bayo! The uh... the brave! The bold!”, he said triumphantly, puffing out his chest.

"I know just the thing," the Collector answered, smoothly. And he did, really, though he'd need to fashion a little of it himself.

"Just what you were after, in fact, but I will need time to retrieve it. Are you willing to return, say, in an hour or so?" he asked, studying the pup with curiosity.

It wouldn't be anything too terrible; the trade would be fair enough. The seeds might be useful, and anyway, this hound-beast did not look particularly malicious or worth deeper effort.

Bayo beamed and nodded excitedly, his ears flopping all over, ”Yeah!! Yeah I'll wait, I'll wait right here!!”

He plopped his butt down, tail smacking against the ground as he practically vibrated, so excited that his front paws were tippy-tapping all over the place. He would probably move a bit when the Collector left, but he was willing to wait!

It was, in the end, about forty-five minutes before the Collector's return.

He came with what appeared to be a very large and silky scarf: some six feet long, dark red and flowing, without a mark on it. The ends were little tassels, fringed and soft, and the whole thing appeared to be both surprisingly high-quality and pristine in its condition.

"Here you are. A bit long, but if you manage to wind it around yourself some, it should not be an issue. Do you--you cannot tie a knot, I imagine..?" he asked, politely; he knelt, offering to wind it around Bayo's neck.

Bayo had waited as patiently as he could, though by the time the Collector had returned, he was nearly asleep, his head touching his chest. He jerked up, tail wagging as he blinked the sleep from his eyes, pushing himself to his feet and shaking out his rugged coat, immensely excited.

”Oh wow oh wow oh wow-”, he babbled, spinning around in a circle and dropping into a play bow, ”It's so awesome!!”

He giggled and sat up so the Collector could tie it securely, so excited he was shaking.

”I don' know what a knot is, mister!”, he said cheerfully, ”But if it falls off I can get my siblings to tie it! Thank you kindly!!”

Bayo stood up and wagged his tail, puffing out his chest again, the scarf flapping in the wind and making him look like some kind of superhero. He grinned and ducked his head in a nod, tail wagging.

”Thank you!”, he said once more, turning to leave, ”Have a nice day mister!”

And off he went, tail like a flag behind him as he ran to go show his mom his new scarf, cackling like a mad-man the entire way.

Exit Bayo

"It more than suits you," the Collector crooned, cocking his head back as if to admire the scarf's overall effect. And he was: it was performing its role nicely.

At the little hound's thanks, he swept into a low bow. "Not at all; not at all, my new little friend. I am humbled to have a satisfied customer. Ta ta," the Collector added, as Bayo made his way away.

Crimson pinprick eyes followed him; beneath the hood, a faint smile curled the caprine face. The Collector then turned to examine his new seeds, vanishing as he did.
