Whatever was around Tommy was so, so stifling. It was his first thought; he needed to get out and away from whatever this was, the walls too tight on his form and his body bent weird and weird feeling in his throat and— Well, it was a lot.

His second thought was an action really, with him flexing his back as hard as he could and jerking his head free from the weakening chrysalis. Yellow-orange shards clung to his feathers, to his beak; that last part was easily solved with a quick flick of his head. Young, downy feathers, slicked down from fluids, did their best to puff up at the new sensation of air hitting them.

It all felt sort of nasty, but it's not like he had a giant frame of reference to be disgusted by it. If he was, he was quickly distracted by the place he now found himself, in a much larger encasing of stone. It wasn't like the chrysalis (and he checked, looking down and muttering "oh") and more solid, dull and not as thin. Plus, there were holes already. Light flickered through, down to the overgrown mat of plants his chrysalis was nestled in.

He quickly escaped from that predicament and flung himself into the next, trying to jump up to the hole and falling flat on his front with a soft "oof!" of failure. Well. That wasn't going to work. Shaking himself off as he stood up, Tommy ducked his head and darted towards the bigger hole, leaving the building and emerging into the bright streets of Cassiopeia.

"Woah." His expression lit up, feathers flaring as he stared wide-eyed at everything. Something tugged in him, and he held back for a moment, uncertain about it, but— "Hello?" He couldn't resist calling out into the stale air, flicking his wings in anticipation.

He had caught the sound of another, possibly hatching like he had done not too long ago.

Curiosity got the better of him, as it usually did when something happened around him. He wasn't nosey just... curious.

He stalked forward, aiming to remain in the shadows, watching from a distance as they emerged, narrowing his eyes slightly. What the hell were they? Some bird of sort he assumed from the feathers, but nothing he had ever seen before. Well, he would just have to mentally chalk that up to a new type of creature in his mind. He loved keeping track of everything he learned while he was exploring the caves, always coming back to the Shapers and telling them everything he had learned while he was away.

This was no different, and even as they called out, he didn't move from his spot, wanting to watch them for a little bit longer, figure out what they were, what they could do, and what they would do.

Nothing answered the little bird. The city, dark and long lifeless, remained that way.

A few flickering lights were visible now and then in the nearby buildings, though. Of the hundreds of glass screens that had been positioned throughout the city, and within its buildings, only a scant handful remained intact; these were coated with the grime of ages. But now and then, just enough... power? Magic? ...thrummed through to bring a dim blue flash or two.

The nearest had a word, and a flashing symbol. The word was something the new hatchling could perhaps learn later, should reading become a part of his repertoire of skills. The symbol was maybe more obvious: a long line leading to an arrow, pointing in the direction of the nearest tram station.

The word said simply, "EVACUATE."

@Tommy
