Alright so we all know about Deer Dad. Of course we do, he's only like the title character of Origin. It's all but confirmed now that his body, the body of the deer, is not his true form. We know that his form was 1. Beautiful and 2. very very big. So I propose this: Astraea is, in fact, the spirit of Earth, or whatever planet we're on.
This would definitely explain the "Astraea used to be really big" and his Ancient title. Of course he's Ancient, he would be the oldest one in the world! And of course he would think he's beautiful and would resent his body now. I mean, if you were literally a whole planet and were forced to be a deer, how would you feel? Perhaps something happened to the planet that was Astraea, some calamity or perhaps humanity destroyed it (I'm betting on the latter). This would also explain why there's no humans in the caves - if humans in fact completely destroyed Astraea, then it would be no wonder he'd hate them and they wouldn't be allowed in the replacement.
Perhaps Origin Cave is, in fact, the hollowed out core of the planet that Astraea used to be and we're all living in the decaying body of our dear Deer Dad. This would explain his fungi element. Fungus is decay. His body is dead and his soul is decaying, wasting away in this tiny, pitiful body.
And PERHAPs Tenzin was once the moon! They have such an important connection because the moon orbits the earth and affects the earth's tidal patterns! When the earth was destroyed, the spirit of the moon followed the earth into its last hiding place, its last leg to stand on, so to speak. And this Creator that Astraea was talking about, maybe the Creator is the sun. When the earth died, the Creator sent Astraea's spirit into the earth and had Skahan, the architect, hollow out the middle so that a new world could thrive within the dead one.
