Bebby listened, and as much as she can, tried to imagine in her head what all of this meant.

it was easy enough, she supposed. light traveled in straight lines, which makes sense to her! she's seen the rays through the leaves, yes, but also how the rays will bounce and reflect off of crystals, all in straight lines yet changing direction sharp and fast.

she knows light's fast, she's never been able to move faster that her own light magic, because once cast, it's usually already there the moment she even processed it enough to move. the spotlight is especially tricky.

she hums in thought, for a moment.

"I think i get it. it's like... like water, if water could travel places instantly, or like? much faster than me. you can use magic to move that around too. someone who has water magic could probably stop water from touching them like i can stop light from touching me, or put it somewhere else." she hummed. it probably wasn't the best comparison, but it worked enough in her head.

she nodded, trying to focus. the intent was there, to stop the light from hitting her, encase herself in pure shadow, to manipulate that force to her will. whether it worked or not was totally up to god.

And for once, God seemed to like her when it mattered!

The light seemed to bend around her, atleast to her best ability. it was unclear if this is what vargas would've used, but it worked, the light around her seeming to flicker away, in its stead thick shadow that seemed to suck in the light that tried to shine through, odd shadowy shapes on the ground beneath her, butterflies it seemed. her eyes blinked, the only remaining light as they glowed a faint pink.

she smiled up at him, willing the shadows away. "was that right?"

- THE LEVIATHAN -

He waited, listened, watched. And at the shift in light--the delicate rays parting, blocked to offer instead flitting images of the shadows of nonexistent butterflies--he gave a great nod of his hammer-shaped head. "Precisely!" he boomed, his tone one of praise and approval. "Well done. Now try to intensify it--do you have any knowledge of how to do that? To make the light shine more brightly in one place. There is magic to freeze it there--to take the energy of Light and imbue it into an object, so that it always glows of its own accord. But for now--try to make something shine more brightly. Yourself, or an object."

It had always been one of Nemean's favorite spells--maybe Bebby had seen that? "Have you ever seen Master Nemean attempt to focus the light around herself-? She bends it, I believe. Redirects it to focus strictly on herself, to light herself brightly to be the center of attention." There was a sort of fond amusement in his tone, and not for the first time, he mentally berated Nemean in his thoughts for having gone as far as she had.

He'd enjoyed having her around. It was her own damn fault that she wasn't, anymore.

She dances in place and cheers to herself, quiet little "woohoo!" 's at her victory.

she looked back up to him. "i can do that too!! my friend calls it BAUBLING, its cool! they made the lights in our den." she said, in regards to imbuing something with light.

she thought for a moment. had she seen nemean do that before? once again, she perked up in recognition. "The spotlight!! yes yes i can do that!! it's like my favorite thing, hold on, let me try." she rambled, focusing again.

light, light, light, focus the light! give him a show!

Suddenly, instead of on herself, she would direct the light elsewhere. the next minor movement he would make, a slight shift or flex of a muscle, the light would suddenly focus all on him, illuminating his features comfortably, not too bright. it shone a bit on bebby too due to her proximity, but it was mostly on him.

"ta-da! i put it on you, since you're the master. is that what you wanted me to do??" she exclaimed, excited and happy, clicking her claws together as she brought her paws together.

"Excellent," he barked, but tilted his head a little at the question. "No! The magic is what matters. I do not need a spotlight on me to make me beautiful," he added, with a tone of sort of confidential, "keep-this-between-us" amusement. "You seem to have grasped the basics of it--and there is much more that you can do with it! Hide yourself from sight, or illuminate an enemy who are, themselves, trying to hide! Create illusions with light to lure in unsuspecting prey!" -Was this perhaps the wrong tack? Bebby was a tiny, 'cute' sort of creature, after all, not a warbeast-... No, he thought. It is a -cat,- a hunter. It is dripping with the blood of my prey, even now. And it was created by -Nemean.- That was sign enough of what it was capable of--any of those three points would be.

"Now--can you do either of those other two things? Hide yourself from sight, or create illusions?" and he tried once more to demonstrate the former.

Again it failed--and again, he didn't mention it.

she giggled, nodding along. It's always good when people recognize their inherent beauty. Purple was a smart color, but it was also very pretty! she wishes she had more purple on her, honestly.

She thought to herself. those all sounded pretty cool! that'd make hide and seek really cool, shining a spotlight on someone rather than calling them out directly. maybe it'd startle a mouse enough to give her another moment to pounce, before it had even realized it'd been caught. ohohoho... very fun.

she tilted her head. "I think so. i kinda did it the other day, the illusions thing, but i don't know any other ways to hide me yet. let me try the first one?" she said, backing up.

Once again, it was up to focus. and god. she tried to imagine the shapes in her mind, figures of light dancing in her mind, and she would try to will them into the world.

Suddenly, without warning past a loud whistle in her head before it hit, she would yelp and fall back, lashes of magic sparking through her paws and shocking her, setting part of her leg on fire.

she screamed, shoving her mouth on it to douse the flame.

after a moment she pulled away, huffing. "The magic bit me!!" she huffed, "it's never done that before!"

Vargas stared, completely blankly.

"That is-..." (long pause) "Not meant to happen." Had she called upon the element of fire, instead-? Or just magnified that much light into one spot-? It was almost impressive how badly she'd ruined the attempt.

"If it is any condolence, I have been attempting to demonstrate a spell--several times now--and have failed. Magic--as I warned--is fickle. Try again--perhaps something... less intense. Practice what you know, and build on that. You mentioned--making stones glow, yes? Can you show me that?"

Back to basics, then. But it made sense; only when she was confident with the foundations of her work, when it came as second nature to her, would more advanced iterations of her magic flow more readily.

She seemed slightly bummed, but brushed herself off, the smell of burnt sugar of all things radiating from her.

fickle, huh? "You can say THAT again.. hmph."

she listened, trying to shake off the disappointment. at the very least she didn't seem embarassed?
she smiled though, and nodded, grabbing one of the pieces of rock candy on the floor. "yeah! i can do that no problem! the other day i made a rock glow so bright i was seeing spots in my vision, and it lit up a whole tunnel!" she bragged. "piece of candy."

she would try to focus, though, getting cocky might also not be the best route for her yet. she would hold it tight, and try to will her magic into it, gentler this time.

The candy WOULD start to glow, if only faintly. she seemed mildly disappointed again but she still smiled and shrugged. "Not the best example of that, but its glowing atleast and not like. on fire." she mewed.

she paused, and held the glowing candy up. "want it?"

He already felt unpleasant enough from the first bit of candy, so as it was he held up one forelimb in that universal "no" gesture. "No. Thank you." The glow didn't look all that strong, he noticed, scrutinizing it.

"Good, though it could be stronger," he suggested. "Care to try again? And in the meantime," he went on, "you spoke of other magics, as well. You said that you--saw a memory, yes? After you have tried to make a stronger light, you might try that magic on me," he suggested.

He was curious as to which sort it was--there were a few elements that could delve, however weakly, into the past but only one with strength. From the sounds of it, Bebby might have tapped right into that, which was... almost impressive. Particularly, he thought, given how untrained--and uncontrolled--she was. "I get the impression thus far that your magical power has great potential, but requires a great deal of correction--like trying to ride one of those meadow deer out there," and he jabbed one thumb off toward the massive creatures in the distant herds. "If you can harness it, it will be very strong. But that harnessing will take time, effort, and practice."

She shrugged and shoved the candy into her mouth, chunks of glowing rock candy falling from her paws.

she listened. her magic had alot of potential, apparently. she wonders the true extent of power, magical power. could she dip into a little bit of everything? even with her light powers, could she one day master that of INTENTIONAL fire?! or water magic like she mentioned earlier??

"understood, master. i'll do my best." she nodded, smiling.

she looked for another rock on the ground finding another pebble. this one, if she could get it right, and then the memory stuff? alright.

she once again tried to will her magic forward into the little rock.

This one was MUCH better. it glowed brightly, a halo of light eminating from it as it glowed. it's luminescence seemed to reflect on bebby's holographic wings quite beautifully! she smiled brightly.

"THERE we go!! this bright enough for you?" she said happily, giggling. "Now i do the memory thing, right?"

"Very good, yes!" he boomed, and for someone complaining about volume, it was rich how damn loud his approval was.

He offered out his hand, as if to take Bebby's paw in his own, or at least to offer her to do so. "Show me; and tell me what you see." So far as he was concerned, he'd imparted the basics of "light," what he understood of its theories and functions. The idea of light being waves was far beyond him but the rest of it, he felt was steady ground. Everything now, in terms of Light, would be up to her to practice and hone--the knowledge, now, was hers.

This, though--this was an element not her own.

He was curious as to how she'd handle it.

Vargas tried, too, to focus on her casting--tried to sense which element she might be tapping into, and how strong that magic might be.
