It was time to search out his prey yet again. This time, he knew what he was looking for, at least.

He ended up finding one, a smaller one. It was on its own, and he did not think it had noticed him yet.

Alek would try to sneak up, he decided. It was too quick to deal with otherwise, in all likelihood.

Before he swum close, he did his best to recloak himself in the water's shadows. It... did not go well.

Suddenly, the fish had seen him. And it sped away, as he had predicted it might if it saw him

Yet another prey lost. How frustrating. But, as they said, there were more fish in Fornax.

Time to go searching out more prey, he thought, a mild irritation to his thoughts. Once again, he found one smaller fish of the glowing kind.

He hoped this would not end up like the two small fish of this species. That would increase his annoyance by quite a bit.

Should he try stealth, or just hope it hadn't noticed him? He was training, so stealth, he thought, was likely best.

Alek focused his mental efforts on some stealth. It failed, he felt, but he was far enough away that he had realized he had failed before swimming closer.

He was far enough away, indeed, that he could try this again. It hadn't outright noticed him, he thought.

Not yet, at least, if his luck continued as it had been. He would try again, at this same distance.

It was time for yet another stealth check, before it really did notice him. This time, it felt as if he had succeeded, if barely so.

He felt pleased to have a success, but he tried not to let himself grow arrogant. There was still the actual catching of the speedy fish left.

If he could not be faster, he had to be smarter.

It was time for the moment of truth. He swam closer, steadily, and then drawing even nearer still, he lunged.

Another failure, he thought, as the fish noticed him. But this was not like the other fish, scared of a bigger predator. It tried to attack first, dumb enough, and then realized the size of the predator it was facing and tried to swim away.

He still had a chance to catch it.

If he could disable it somehow, that would assist in his catch. They were deep, deep enough that Alek could use a wing to scatter sand sharply in the direction of the fish's eyes, an attempt to blind it.

The sand missed, however, and the fish swam away. He was determined, however. He could be a predator of endurance, even if he was not quite as fast as these smaller fish.

He would catch up to this fish when it tired of the chase.

It was smart enough to avoid the sandy floor, at least, it seemed. But he pursued it with determination. He caught up to it at last, barely so.

He would need to take some time to calm down, he thought, after this one. Time to let his mind relax and simply exist.

But for now, he focused on the hunt.

He at last lunged for the tired fish, hoping his persistence would pay off. It worked. He caught the fish successfully, killing it in his maw.

The fish tasted like victory, of sorts, but he was not done, though he moved to the surface and then land.

It had been a frustrating hunt, as some were. He would need to take a break to try and relax.

As he laid on the beaches of Fornax, he tried to relax. Decompress, and all that.

He successfully relaxed, thinking about only the way the warm air and the lights above in the cave felt, not anything else.

It was meditative, in a way, his relaxing like this. He felt his tension ease.
