Fisher listened, ears twitching, tail curled around her heels. His fur prickled as he listened to the feline tell her side of the story, reminding the doe about the Night. The Night was such a powerful, wonderful thing, a creature he wanted to become. He was frightened to swallow the light, true, but if he could just begin to be half of what they thought of him... He could do about anything.

Fallah had a good point about the shadows being unable to hurt them. His fur prickled, a pain sparking up his gem, as he thought about using his magic... His more deadly magic, that was. It was a risk, but... If he had to, he would fight tooth and nail with Fallah. The shadowed fawn spoke in her sweet, story telling voice and he found himself gritting his teeth in a snarl towards her, his vision cutting through her darkness until...

Suddenly.

There was nothing.

Not a single ounce of light hit his eyes and his magic could do nothing against the perfect darkness. A whisper hit his ears and spoke his life out to him, the world in which he lived quietly, privately, in his own life. One of loneliness, one of mistake, of pity mixed with failure. Yes, he knew the words that the storyteller spoke...

But things weren't like that now. He had made mistakes, and yes, he clung to a name that was pointlessly obtuse-- but so did Black. And it didn't matter. The Spire tried to kill him again and again but he still lived. His resistance halted slightly when the doe spoke of Leon. Makyna. Oh, Makyna hurt dearly-- the lioness hardly spared him a glance to this day, even after nursing him after he nearly died. After saving his life.

Maybe it was done out of pity.

His family, however, no. Fallah and Black were thicker than thieves, his trusted partners in life. The shadowed voice did not know of what she spoke, and a violent sensation ran through his teeth and sent him into a shivering hiss of clacking ivory, his gem sparking light that died in the void.

"You know of the past, Shadow, but your stories tell you nothing of the present and the future. I lived through worse than you! I've become the night, and I have a light inside of me that you CANNOT stop!"

And the void turned into a thundercloud. Along side him, a bolt of lightning thrashed down a tree adjacent to their own, lighting up into a burning cinder of light. Electricity crackled dangerously around them and Fisher willed the bolts to strike anywhere but their branch, his concentration absorbed on breaking up the void so that Fallah could see-- so they could see. The shadows would not win this fight.

He would never let them turn Fallah against him.
