Where words should have come only silence gripped him, mouth held slightly ajar as he soaked up the incoming information like a sponge. Fire, water, plants, electricity, wind... what else was there? Certainly there were things far more mysterious, and far less tangible, hiding within this new home he'd only begun to explore. It only fueled his curiosity, stoking the embers that smoldered in his chest. He drank up every bit of information Varne offered, watching the swan with a careful eye and listening closely. As his speech began to wrap up, the bear's gaze shifted to his surroundings, yet drifting off somewhere else entirely. Silence hung heavy in the air for a moment, the world around seeming to lean in for another word. Varne asked if it all made sense and, though it didn't in the slightest, Sabotage nodded dully. He was already gone, mentally, already off into his own thoughts and meandering down a new, strange path of knowledge.
"If you'll excuse me, sir," he muttered, glancing to Varne but not truly seeing him. With a gentle incline of his head the cub finally moved to his feet. For his first time truly standing, Sabotage was surprisingly steady. He wavered only slightly before gathering himself properly. He stood still then, still strangely silent, his eyes clouded with a dreamlike quality. With one more unstable hesitation he walked. And, simply, he left.

'If you'll excuse me, sir,' the cub had said, staring past him into the depths of Eridanus, the swan understanding the far away look in Sabotage's eye with a quiet sigh. Though the bear had already left, the swan found himself lingering, watching the patch of foliage he'd disappeared through with a small hope in his core that maybe they'd come back. Of course, as the seconds drew, Varne accepted they'd left, off to go live their own life with a low, quiet coo, the swan voiced his thoughts.
"Stay safe, little bear. Stay safe." With those few words, Varne pushed himself back to his feet, turning away from the shards with a heavy feeling in his heart, and disappearing through the undergrowth, opposite of where Sabotage had taken his leave.
