Ugh, this conversation was getting them nowhere. Maybe Red had kind of jumped the gun a little bit. She had to admit that fighting fire with fire was maybe not the best approach. But she also would not stand to be insulted like that if she could help it. Then again… they were just words, weren’t they? What could words do to her? It wasn’t like the weasel had physically attacked her (the coywolf felt guilty again at this thought for almost eating them again). Maybe they did have a right to be so angry. Maybe it would be best just to leave, and give them some space, go hunting somewhere else. The thought of trying to hunt again made Red flinch internally, but she couldn’t help that. She was still hungry, after all. Maybe she’d just have to give up the element of surprise altogether and talk to all of her prey in case it talked back.

She sighed and turned away from the weasel. “You’re right. I’ve got other places to be right now. Sorry for almost eating you. See ya ‘round.” Or not, she added to herself as she padded away farther into Polaris.

Envy didn’t expect her to actually leave. Their shoulders slumped slightly, and they tilted their head, raising it up from where they’d been growling and watching curiously. "Huh. Smart kid," They mutterrd, not making a move to stop her, though, as they watched her go.

The satisfaction that came with her show of ‘respect’, though, was short-lived. Now alone, they looked around, a bitter taste in their mouth and a hollow feeling in their belly that they couldn’t quite explain. "Newborns say such stupid things..." They muttered to themselves unconvincingly, as they curled back up onto their rock and tried, as they did every day, to squash the insecurity.

Magic once again prickled through their fur, and although they half-closed their eyes, they didn’t let themselves drift back towards sleep. They wouldn’t be that careless again.
