Ears flatted as the canine’s voice grew in intensity. It seemed to him that she was upset at not knowing the answer. That seemed like a silly reason to yell, but strangely appropriate for her. No matter. She was correct in that he’d have to learn for himself how to find prey, after all, so he had no complaints at the suggestion that he go find it himself. For now, he’d rely on the assumption that he’d know what prey was when he found it.
Taking a quick glance at the island, it didn’t seem that prey existed there. But watching Mosaic dash into the water, he wondered if perhaps she was giving him a hint that “prey” existed there. It was worth a try anyways. He had no reason to think that prey wasn’t a water thing, after all. All he knew was that prey wasn’t the crumbled pieces of chrysalis scattered around from his hatching.
At a slower pace than the canine, Ejder moved to the water’s edge. A dusky front paw quickly swiped at the water’s edge. It wasn’t particularly cold but it felt strange. It clung to his fur like the sand did but dripped down slowly in tiny drops. A part of his brain told him that he didn’t like the feeling. But he needed to see if prey was there or not.
He wadded in until he was about mid chest level. The water swirled around his legs as he inched forward. It was not a pleasant experience but it was a manageable one at least. Especially when a strange creature crept near him. Strange indeed; staying completely underwater with no fur or legs and weird slits on the sides.
“ Prey,” his mind called forth the word again. “Oh, so this is prey,” he mused to himself. Now to figure out how to get prey.

Oh look at that. The cat was looking for prey in the water. Mosaic scoffed at his actions; didn't he know that prey lived in places with rocks, not in the water? At least, all the prey she'd caught had been on land. But wait, if that's the case, how can anyone live here? This whole place is filled with water with only a few rocks! Perhaps that was why she didn't see anyone here except the cat. Maybe they'd all either left or died of starvation or something. Well then, if the cat couldn't find any prey, she knew not to stay now.
Then the cat said something, but she couldn't tell what it was. "What was that?" she snapped, swiveling her ears at him. "Speak up! Do you want people to hurt their ears straining to hear you?!" Look at her, for example! Always speaking loudly to make sure she could be heard. It was a habit this cat could use.

Ejder heard the African wild pup yell at him, wanting him to speak louder. While he had not meant to speak initially when he saw the fish, it made sense to alert Mosaic about its presence. She did, after all, have hunting experience while he had some vague instinct driven ideas while in an unfamiliar element (as much as you could say any element was familiar to a newly hatched gembound).
“ I found prey,” he yelled, not taking his eyes off the fish.
Then a loud yawl followed after. The fish had been spooked by the sudden shout and dashed off. Ejder mewed angry before charging after the fish. Water was splashed in his wake as he dashed forward. The water level began to creep higher and higher until his head was just barely above water.
It was at this point that he had to admit defeat. Turning around, his ears flattened against his scalp. All that trouble and there wasn’t even any prey caught for the effort.
“ Well, I had found prey,” he grumbled. Still, if there was one prey, there might be more.

"Hmmmmph," Mosaic grumbled. "Can't you do anything? What were you thinking, shouting like that? Even I knew not to shout when I caught my very first prey." OK, so maybe she'd shrieked a little, but that was after the stupid rabbit bit her, and besides it was stuck in a hole in the rock anyway so it really didn't matter. What mattered was that she'd been expecting a snack but now there was absolutely no chance of one and she was angry.
"Well, what are we supposed to do now?" The lack of a snack didn't really matter, she supposed, if she wasn't really hungry anyway. But Ejder was hungry, and he actually seemed rather disappointed about not getting any food. And even if it was totally his fault.... did a little newly hatched kitten, no matter how hideous and clueless, really deserve to go hungry? "Just... how hungry are you?" Mosaic asked reluctantly. Maybe if he really needed it she'd help him find other stuff to eat. Hopefully he wasn't that hungry yet, though. She really didn't want to bother.

The kitten’s ears flicked back in irritation. It wasn’t at the canine’s words, he had already learned to largely ignore her attitude and volume. Instead, he was irritated at the complexity that catching prey apparently had. It was assumed that he just needed to find prey and then he could eat. The fact that it wasn’t so simple was annoying. His stomach growled as though emphasizing Mosaic’s words about loosing a snack.
He flushed with annoyance at the situation. The strange thing was that it wasn’t just his cheeks that became heated. The crown of lavender horns glowed as a pit of warmth grew in his chest. The heat became hotter and hotter until at last he could no longer contain it. Mouth opened to emit a low yowl but instead released a stream of warm air down towards the water before him.
Immediately Ejder leapt back as the water immediately became warmer. At the same time, a large fish also jumped from the water in response to the sudden temperature change. By instinct the feline pounced and landed on the fish. In one fluid motion, he clamped down onto the pinned creature and jerked it from the water.
With the grace gifted to felines he turned around and started walking back to his new companion.
