He expected her to retaliate in some way but she didn't. The little one knew when to admit defeat and backed down, lowering herself back to her tiny size. The raven stood just a bit taller, ego inflating to monstrous sizes as his head lifted and he looked down at her. He appreciated the ego inflation and as he stood there looking at her. An idea popped in his head. He knew how to inflate his ego even more... How? Well, if he taught such a tiny voice how to properly screech and crow then that would show just how good he was at it! Perhaps he could even teach her how to bully and hunt. The latter would be even more useful because then he would be able to send her to catch food for him.
"Tiny Voice make Krakarak laugh. Krak! Not waste of time." He said, voice going back to its --slightly less- irritating volume. Now he cocked his head to the side, examining her, studying her. He shifted his weight and balanced himself on his one uninjured leg before speaking. "Perhaps Tiny Voice could be taught to have much bigger voice! Krakarak could teach her... If she remembers that he will always have bigger voice because he is bigger carrion bird! Kraaaa! He said. He could teach her his ways, have a tiny little crow protege but only if she played by his rules. Besides... He actually liked her little spirit.

I knew it.
As predicted, she watched the raven bask in the glory of his victory. As far as she was concerned, this had indeed not only been a waste of time as Krakarak was oh-so-desperately trying to deny, but had also been a waste of her beautiful voice. Her throat felt unpleasant and dry.
Wait...
Had she heard that right? This raven wanted to teach her to scream correctly? The little crow fluffed herself up with a weak croak. She had her doubts - she was sure anyone would. This massive stranger had came down, screamed at her, and now wanted to be... friends? Well, what could go wrong?
Crawk! Name Eve! Eve! Eve call Krakarak by name, Krakarak call Eve by name! Little crow many never match up, yes, but Eve must be referred to by name! Eve still like to learn from Krakarak!

The raven waited for her to concede to his oh-so-pleasant terms but no. She demanded to be called by her simple name. The raven lowered his head again, screeching, "KRAKARAK CALL YOU 'TINY VOICE'! YOU ARE A TINY VOICE COMPARED TO HIM! KRAKAWAW!" He narrowed his eyes staring at her with deep brown pools. He lowered his voice then but sounded no less serious than when he'd shouted. "Krakarak use name 'Eve' when you show him how much your tiny voice improve. Krak Krak! Not a moment sooner." Hmph. She would make demands of him? Not yet. Not until he'd gotten to know her better and not until she showed her dedication to the delicate craft of yelling.
He lowered his injured foot to the ground and limped a few paces away. He took on a dramatic air as he prepared his wings for flight should she refuse. "These terms. Take'em an' be taught or leave'em an' be on your own." If she didn't comply he was more than content with flying away and leaving whether he liked her or not. The crow was at his mercy, not the other way around and really if he wanted he could probably find another crow or better yet a raven to teach.

What a melodramatic bastard. She loved it.
The crow chick bumbled forwards next to Krakarak with a faint scowl, but there was also the faintests of amused glimmers in her dark eyes. She puffed herself up once reaching his side, beak briefly grinding together. She resumes staring upwards for a moment before she 'speaks,' despite the soreness of her throat, she is still irritatingly loud.
What hurt Krakarak?
She waits rather patiently for an answer. She seems well aware the raven could just fly off and she'd never see him again. She can't fly yet herself, after all. Not that she'd want to, falling hurts. It'd be a shame too, of course, but at least the hyena in Canis would offer her food and somewhere to sleep. She decided she wouldn't be too bothered.

Krakarak held his dramatic pose for a moment as he waited to see what the young crow would do. Just as he thought the little one hopped over to him and puffed herself up. It seemed that he would have a little student! She was acting like being called "Tiny Voice" was that bad. Pfft, it was only temporary... maybe.
The raven looked down at her just as she looked up at him. "Good." He croaked in satisfaction in reference to her hopping over to him. First thing was first, he would teach her how to look for food if she didn't know how. Then maybe take her back to Canis and--
"What hurt Krakarak?"
His eyes narrowed at the memory and a low croak of anger bubbled in his throat. He wasn't angry at her though, he was angry at the memory that was brought up. Finally, after croaking for a few seconds he piped up in an angry crow, "Filthy, stinking, ugly, stupid, gem-face! That damned gem-face did it! Krakaaaaw! It boils my feathers just thinking of him!" He started to hop up and down angrily but stopped with a pained expression. No tantrums today, his beautiful foot couldn't take it. "Pigeons! Damn the lot of them! They all stupid, ugly, no-good idiots! First lesson! Don't trust pigeons! They terrible! Krakaw!" The low croaking bubbled up in his throat again at the end of his tirade. Stupid pigeon... He hated them all.
"He try taking Krakarak gem because his stupid gem was ugly and misshapen! Krah! But Krakarak show him who boss!" He shoved his injured foot in front of the crow so she could get a better look at the injury as well as his gem. He sat the foot back down after a few seconds then stared angrily into space, silently fuming about the whole fight.

Wow. She hadn't expected this raven to immediately curse this mystery pigeon behind their back. She watched in silence, seemingly allowing Krakarak to blow off steam. She didn't know what happened - she was hardly going to take everything he said for the truth, after all. He was a raven. Still...
Maybe I should try to stay on this bird's good side.
She snorted at her own thoughts and ruffled herself up, peering almost accusingly at Krakarak's foot. She looked, with a little more interest, at the purple gem. She didn't dare touch it, especially if it hurt. She watched the bird lower his foot and chirruped quietly as she moved to gently nudge his wing.
Krakarak get stronger from injury and fight pigeon!
She seemed sure of this. In fact, she was. A pigeon isn't going to be larger than this raven. But then it crossed her mind - what if the pigeon was in an even worse condition? She croaked once and shook her head, more to herself.

The raven was stirred out of his angry thoughts when the small crow nudged him. His eyes looked down to her, softening slightly at her words. "Yes. Krakarak grow stronger from fight! He see pigeon again, he kill'em! Krak! He make this promise to the bird already." The raven nodded. Well, he hadn't exactly said he would kill him just rip him apart. Which could be taken to mean the same thing. "What you don't die from only makes you stronger." Perhaps getting pounced by a leopard and sat on by a wolf had only prepared him more for that day that he would fight the pigeon. Perhaps he should be thanking stupid spotty-butt Karkat and his sort-of friend the wolf.
He shook his head before turning and facing the crow. Enough talk about the fight. He wanted to know other things... Plus, his belly was still empty. "Tiny Voice, you know how to hunt?" He questioned, head tilting to the side slightly. If she didn't then today they would have their first lesson. Or rather, he would instruct her while watching from the sidelines. "Krak teach you to get insects while young and hunt mice when you can fly if you no can. Krakaw!"

That's odd. He had already threatened this pigeon? The hyena told her that things usually came back to hit her-- did this pigeon hit him first? It was a possibility, yes, but somehow Eve doucted it. Something about the raven seemed mildly agressive, to begin with.
It was probably the screaming.
She wasn't too amused at this new name he had given her, but she also supposed that, perhaps, Karkarak was a hard thing to put trust into. Or he was just a bit of an asshole. She fluffed herself up, and considered.
Eve not hunt. Giggle have leftovers, but Eve know place with bugs!
She sounded cheery (and loud) about this, obviously proud. Granted, she didn't know how to get back there, but he didn't have to know, right?

Krakarak stood, unaware of the crow's thoughts. Perhaps if he knew what the crow was thinking he would have gone on another tirade but for now he was simply looking at the smaller bird with curiosity. When she answered he considered this. Well, that was sort of answering his question. She knew where bugs were but what if they were in a new place? Would she be able to hunt in a new place? That was the important question.
"Okay, Krakarak let you show him place with bugs," He was certain with her small weight that he could carry her anywhere she needed to go, even with his messed up leg. "First. You no answer question. Krak! You know place with bugs, yes. But what about here? If you no can get to place or you get chased off from place where you get bugs from then? If you get hungry an' there no leftovers an' you not in bug-place can you catch other bugs? Krak!" He spread his wings to gesture to the surrounding area. "Plenty bug here. Show Krak how good you can catch!" He demanded. If she was so good at catching bugs then she should be able to do it in this place full of dirt and plants easily. It was crawling --no pun intended-- with bugs.

Eve hadn't tried hunting before - technically. She didn't even really like picking at bugs below rocks and the like. She prefered to strip flesh off bones. She lingered on the thought for a moment, realizing just how hungry she was.
She fluffed herself up and looked around, not answering for now. She bumbles off, only briefly looking over her shoulder to see what the raven is doing before she quickly heads to a stream and dunks her beak into it, soothing her dry throat. It was, to say the least, a relief. She turned again and began moving to a rock, pushing her beak under it to try upturn the rock. She could remember there were beetles and worms under the rocks in the sparkle-room, so surely there would be some here, too?
There! There it was! A worm above the surface of the ground! She screeched at it threateningly, only for the bug to try squirm back into the ground. She barely managed to grab the end of it's tail and yank it back out before turning to strut back proudly to Krakarak, chest puffed out.
