Dread had been intending to eat her. Just snap up, crush, swallow; done, no more drama, no more threatening... chicken.

He crushed with his jaws, expecting meat, blood--and instead, just after the first cracks, he was rewarded with...

...Rock?

"PLEAH." He spat it out, and then reared back his head, tilting it this way and that, staring down. Was this a trick-? Was this... defensive magic, of some kind? "COME OUT," he demanded, and then bellowed and roared and otherwise made a noisy fuss.

When the rock remained a rock, he spoke again. "FINE. I WILL NOT EAT YOU. COME OUT."

...Nope. Still a rock.

Dread huffed, and at length, decided that at least he'd gotten a shiny out of the bargain. Maybe the chicken had played a trick on him--vanished, and left this strange, dull gemstone in her wake?

He gave a mental shrug and stepped forward, eyeing it with craned-round neck and carefully picking it up in one hind talon. He'd take it with him, for now; put it in his den among his other shiny rocks, and just... well, hope for the best.

Hopefully it wouldn't come alive and attack him later, or something.

Quickly forgetting the entire ordeal, Dread wandered off, awkwardly hobbling with Kalama's chrysalis clutched firmly in one foot.
