Relic hazarded a glance at the reference her tutor has provided. The trees stood stoically from the muddy earth, the harsh lines of their silhouettes blurring further up, fusing with the fog entirely before she could see their bristled ends. She couldn’t even see how high it planned to take her. She was not, at this moment, entirely faithful in Karambit's ability to keep her bones intact.

Its reassurance did little to help that fact, because that was definitely not how legs worked.

She was unsure how to relay this information to the hulking insect, having many, many limbs to replace any few that were disabled. ”I don’t want any leg snaps. That is an outcome I would like to avoid.

Was this attempt at communication made in vain? Silly question. Of course it would be.

Fracture my spine
Well, that robbed the fun out of the experience, didn't it?

The crunch of a leg breaking apart had always been such a tender bonding moment for Karambit; in fact, its first had been courtesy of its own doting parent, mostly absent but ensuring that all its gorgeous offspring had received their share of exquisite pain at birth. Missing out on such an delightful life event would be a shame. Nevertheless, it understood the rudeness of forcing participation despite lowered spirits, and so other than the drooping of antennae, the monster remained hopeful.

After all, making conditions didn't mean Relic had said a definite no to being lifted. The slim chance remained.

"Oookay," it whined, voice whirring as much as its wings. "Will trrrry to catch if look like legs ssssnapping sssoon."

A touch of childish petulance carried an unheard "spoilsport." Swinging legs groped for the hyena again.
And swear that you're mine
