Muddled cursing under their breath as the trap fails and backsprings into their face, and they slap at the branch a few times with a scowl.

No, maybe if they loop it here like this, and set it so this one hides the loop down here instead, to bring the deer down by hopefully both forelegs...

Their goal is non-lethal, if they were out and out hunting this would be different.... and not taking as long,

As they mess with the now set snare, the harpy has an idea.

What if I knot this here, so it can't draw all the way tight... and then rig this closer to the ground like so... And they set another sort of noose like trap like the antler one, but this is meant to snare the deer around the head or neck but not choke it, and only pull tight when the deer pulls.

Some how managing to mangle and tangle their newfound snare idea, they try first to pull it off with one hand.

No, now its stuck. Crap

Both hands are stuck, so with a thump, Renasci sits down with a thump to try and use their right foot and talons to pull and cut it off. Emphasis on try. Now THIS foot is stuck!

Eying the knot of rope and three of their extremities, they thump their tail in frustration and contemplate sacfificing their last foot to try and pry this thing off themselves.

Pluck this, a mild swear, and they lift their last foot in an attempt to pry the knot of. Nope. So, they start to chew at the rope with their teeth.

It... takes a bit. Bending like that is hard, wings propping them up or not, and they have to get their teeth into the twisted rope and pull it loose smidge by smidge. Luckly, the slow process means they can get first their one foot, then the other, then one hand, and then finally the last out of the now ruined length of rope.

Given it's been maybe a few hours, they have to lay down for a bit and just... sort of give up for a moment. Grabbing a fistful of the leaves and twigs they'd pulled from the other browsing spot, Renasci simply drapes it across their face and head as they go curl up under a nearby tree, an ungainly shimmy their only movement before they fall still.

When Renasci woke, it would be to the browsing of another, lone Jungle Deer. The creature had not triggered a trap, but it was quite close by: unantlered, a soft green-yellow, large and liquid-looking eyes content as it munched the leaves. It was only a few yards off, and somehow had not yet smelled the harpy-creature's feathers.

Ahh--step, snap, snag--and suddenly the deer was in violent, chaotic motion, twisting away and thrashing at the rope that had ensnared it. The tangle around a foreleg was weak, and Renasci had but a moment to act before it potentially fled, but it was caught--a terrified, loud bleating echoing through this part of Eridanus.

Their waking is less abrupt than they would have liked - but at the same time they thank small miracles for not jolting upright at the presence of another nearby.

Just one, but a beautiful fur color and so calm... so the trap triggering the deer's capture and panic makes their feathers raise, and they snag a length of rope from earlier with their attempts at a sort of bolo throwing weapon in it. Knots, a loop, and some weights.

Decent for noosing around the head of the deer and with a deep breath, Ren makes an attempt to lunge forward and grab the deer with their wings, arms free to try and put the very crude bridle on the critter.

Somehow able to get the bridle on the deer, they're quick to use a now free hand and use it to tighten the trap the deer was in, in an attempt to make the creature easier to handle as they figure out how to make a better lead.

The deer thrashed, a loud, plaintive and terrified bleat--almost a scream--sending birds fluttering up from the canopy in alarm. It struggled but Renasci's comparative size kept it held; still it kicked and fought, eyes rolling white in panic.

Renasci could keep hold, and could likely subdue it with their strength--but the deer's prolonged terror might well bring it harm, or even to the chrysalis from stress. Assuming, that was, it even had a stone.

This is... not going well.

Loud, and panic, they can feel it's heartbeat and feel some pity for the deer, and so try to make a low, humming noise of comfort, hoping that this is the type of deer they're after. No stone, they may be able to keep an eye on the live births or even try that idea they had about cooking meat to the point where the dry keeps away the rot, instead of just... oil slop. Stone, then they'd let the poor critter go and not try live trapping in this cave for a good long while, and maybe put whatever fruits and plants they can find around as an apology.

Stone or no stone, this might be the last adult that Ren targets for a while in a live trap- let's just hope this one doesn't give out under it's own stress.

Hoping to calm it so they don't hurt the deer by grabbing the bridle, they keep one arm around the deer's neck, wings around the torso, and try to loose one hand to carefully, carefully make sure they can get a better hold on the woven plant fibers and bark and give the deer some space to calm itself.

They feel more than a smidge guilty, and hope they they're successful long enough to at the very least not... fully traumatize the poor critter.

The deer--a wild animal--does not calm.

It does, however, relax enough that it does not outright die beneath the stress and strain, falling into heart failure or shock or even just a chrysalis. But that does not mean it is suddenly tamed: it kicks and bleats, struggling, and will continue to do so, feeling quite trapped by a larger predator. If a chance comes for it to free itself, it will take it, fleeing into the jungle; until then, it thrashes in near-frantic fight.
